My son's heart rate was high.every woman in my family was convinced he was a she i even started to think so but lo and behold at my sonogram it was a boy.so, think it's an old wives tale.
K funny question y'all - I have always been told - even by my former OB and all of her staff and sono techs - that fetus's with higher heart rates are normally girls and those with lower are normally boys. Any of you out there know anything about this? My new OB's nurse and sono tech told me that it is an old wives tale and that there is no such thing. But my daughter's was high - my niece's was high, etc. Just wondering. I just had a sono and the heart rate was 181 (granted the little booger was boot scootin around alot too) so I was like "huh, another girl huh" and felt stupid when they laughed and said its been a few days since they heard that heart rate nonsence. Just wondering if there is any truth to this. :)
Well the Doc and Sono tech were right - The whole high heart rate means a girl is nothing but an old wives tale! It's a boy with a strong 181hpm! :)

I think it's a boy. :)
I am also pregnant at this time and my babies heart rate is high also. I did have a sono and it is another little girl. This will be my second daughter. So for me this is true, but i will not know for sure until the baby is born. They do make mistakes. But i feel like it is going to be another girl. Good Luck

It was true for me, my girl's rate was always high, like 165 and the nurse there told me it tends to be true. Girls have to fight to survive (why there are more boys born than girls) and that is why their heartbeat tends to be faster. When I was prego, there was 5 of us in the office that was and it was true for 4 of us!! :) Please let us know!! :) I didn't know for sure until two weeks before I had her that she was a girl and I had something like 8 sonos!!! CRAZY! I just said she was modest and didn't want to show the world her business! LOL
Hi A.!
I am a true believer (as is my OB) that high heart rates are girls! I have two friends that are pregnant, well one just had her baby 2 days ago, and they are both girls and had high heart rates. both my girls were high too! I know some doctors don't believe in it, but my doc does and doesn't hesitate to tell ya!
Also, i have a BUNCH of gently used maternity clothes. Would you like to see them? I actually have pictures of them all.
Talk to you soon!

My daughter was always in the 180s from the first sono, until close to 32 weeks, then she went down to 160, then eventually lower. I have always been told that any heart rate between 140-160 can go either way but there are more cases then not when your fetus has an extremely high heart rate (over 170) it could be a girl.
Well, my daughter's heart rate was always high. Also, when my mom was pregnant and sonograms weren't as clear as they are now, they always told her that a high heart rate was for a girl and a low heart rate was a boy, and it turned out to be true for us - my mom had 2 boys and 2 girls, and it was always what they predicted by the heart rate. I'm sure it's not an exact science, but it can be true for some people.
I really don't know how true it is, but I had a boy about 4 months ago and his heart rate was always between 140 and 150. So, there could be some truth behind it.
We had heard that too but our twin girls' heartbeats were both in the 140's, as was our son's, which, like you, we 'assumed' would be another girl, LOL! So when DO you find out?!
Also, what size maternityh clothes are you needing? I am getting a ton ready for a garage sale so they are separated, tagged and sized :) I'm in McKinney!

I have 2 boys and they both had 185-190 in the womb.
Good Luck!

A., As an L& D nurse I can tell you that it makes a guessing gender game fun but there truly is no scientific proof. If the rate you heard at sono was 180 it was likely a fetal heart rate acceleration related to the increased fetal movement. Those are very positive atributes for a fetus to have. I don't know how far along you are but babies do not begin to truly have accelerations unitl 29 weeks "typically". You can certainly have a male boy with a fast heart rate and female with a slow. I think the HR concept exist because they say females overall are more relaxed. Good luck to you.
sorry, its a wives tale. my daughter's was always high (160's and up) and i'm pregnant now - with triplets. They were all just like their sister (high) and guess what? They are all boys.
My best friend had them all over the place and she has 4 daughters.
Sorry :)
My boy's heartrate was 168 at 7 weeks, 173 at 8 weeks, and 150 at 25 weeks. I know it starts of slow and then goes fast and then evens out. His evened out finally and is usually around 150.
Congratulations!!
My boy's rate in utero was higher than my daughter's. Heart rate has to do with activity levels, not gender. Your gender doesn't change when you walk up a flight of stairs does it? :-)
Was your daughter's heart rate always high- even at the end of your pregnancy? When I was pregnant with my son, his heart rate was always around 175. We kept the gender a surprise, so everybody thought it was a girl. By the time I was 38 weeks and we induced, his heart rate was around 140. So, his heart rate was really high until the very end and I had a boy- the wives tale didn't ring true for me!
