I like Juice Plus gummies. I've been giving them to my kids since they were 2 or so. As long as she's old enough to chew. They taste good and they seem to help with immunity. I notice they get sick more when I run out of the vitamins. I believe you can find them on the web. Good luck.
Yes. Shaklee brand multi-vitamin. They make a powder you can mix in anything. My 4 1/2 year old takes it in a glass of thier soy protien every night and my almost 1 year old takes it in banana or rice cereal. It is 100% natural whole reduced food supplements and is 100% guaranteed. Even if you finish the whole bottle, if you dont like it for any reason, you get your money back. It has every vitamin - C, E, K, D, and many many more - Go to Shaklee.com to find a distributor, or just more info.
It is reccomended for infants and toddlers by health professionals everywhere.
Hi there-
There definitely is some decent specific for cold/flu season immune boosters out there for toddlers. I'm sorry I can't remember the names of the couple I liked. I have found them at Nugget, Whole Foods & Sunrise Natural Foods. Before my son was two I would just give him a small dose. I would ask for recommendations from the staff, if they're not nutrition knowledgable at least they usually can tell you which ones moms liked. I also give my son a chocolate protein/vitamin shake he really likes, but I don't use soy, it's a plant estrogen and I just don't feel safe giving it to my kids. Yogurt is great too, smoothies or straight. Having good bacteria in their guts helps keep bugs away. We love Wallaby yogurt, it's so flippin good! but only at Nugget or Whole Foods. Oh and I like Nordic Naturals fish oils for the winter time too. Best of luck!

No parent likes to deal w/a sick child & we want to prevent it as best we can but, really, there is no miracle drug to prevent or avoid colds & flu. We also don't want our kids germ-free as it doesn't help build up their immune system. My best advice is to wash hands a lot. Every time you come into the house, before meals. If you leave her at daycare or take any baby classes have her wash her hands before she joins in & before she leaves the class or building. Best of luck!
Planetary Formula has a WELL CHILD that is very good at boost a child's immune system, during cold season.
Enfamil makes a POLY*Vi*SOL (spelled just like that)that is made for infants and toddlers. Its a dropper and my son takes it either straight into his mouth or I put it in his formula!
Hi, I know I am a bit late on this one, but in addition to what others have suggested, I have used Sambucus (also called Sambucol depending on the brand). It is based on elderberry extract and sometimes includes echinacea, zinc and/or vit C. The one I have at the moment is by Nature's Way and is suitable for childen over one year. I also use homeopathic remedies and my kids usually fight colds off quickly and don't get too run down with them.
Best of luck,
C.
That's an excellent and important question. Uninformed people will tell you you just need to feed yourself and your child the right food and you will be ok. But the truth is that our soils don't have what they used to, so supplementation is necessary.
And, when looking you want to look for a company that has been around a while, that will be around, and whose products are superior in content and absorption. Of course, coming in an all-natural organic state is important. You don't want to put in yourself or child something that has been formulated synthetically in a lab, and even though the label will say one thing, what actually gets absorbed at the cellular level is completely different. If your interested in hearing about such a whole-food product, you can email me at ____@____.com or call me ###-###-####.
Good luck!

Hi Ann
I have found that giving my kids Vit C supplements helps to minimize the effects of colds. Again, look for a high quality, organic brand where the company does many quality tests. Since the nutrients in supplements are in high concentrations I believe it is worth paying for organic supplements, and the body better absorbs a natural supplement rather than synthetic. Nutrilite is a quality brand and they do a chewable Vic C which is great for kids.

Diet of course, is very important but a good cod liver oil will do wonders to keep you from getting sick. You need to have the right amount of Vitamin D in it. This brand is the best!

My son and I are almost never sick and if we do get sick, it is short lived and not bad. I also believe drinking raw milk plays a part too, which is loaded with probiotics.

It's not recommended to give a vitamin supplement until they are 2. You can give fish oils though (if you've established that there is no fish allergy) and you can give vitamin D3 drops until then. I would use Nordic Naturals sold at Whole Foods. They are allowed sale in Europe where PCB and mercury-free standards are much higher and supplements are regulated. They are not here and he never know what you are getting. (I was a nutritional sales rep for a prof. line of supplements sold to Dr's before I had my baby.) My old company is great too, but you can only get through a Dr who carries the line. It's called Biotics Research) So, try Nordic Naturals. My baby loves the strawberry flavored one. I use a motrin dropper and give him 1/2 tsp. My child is 20 months old. Find Vitamin D drops but make sure they are D3 not D2. It is more bio-available. Vitamin D supports the immune system.
I think 2 things are a must for health;(I am pretty sure they are safe for everyone. I have researched them and haven't seen anything contrary.)I give fulvics to my kids with other vitamins and I am planning to dose them with iodine (when i can locate it).
Fulvic acid and Iodine (potassium iodide.)Do a google search on these.
The thymus regulates the immune system. Vit A is the vitamin for the Thymus.
Hi A.,
Check out www.DrinkSupplements.com it is an excellent liquid supplement and tastes great but not recommended until your child is two years old, you can get started on it for yourself and it will help you stay healthy to take care of your daughter and when she turns two, which will be here before you know it, you can start her on it too, also, if you purchase it as a member and not as a customer at no extra charge you can earn a residual income.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me.
Good Luck
E.

Colds or should I say the ability for the body to dump toxins and dead cells from the body is an important function of the body. It isn't so much the cold you should get rid of but the more severe flu symptons and other sickness. Have you ever heard an adult say, "I was never sick a day in my life and then suddenly I got cancer?" It takes the body some about of energy to push out dead cells it is killing, mucous etc. so people that are never sick are not well enough to have normal response, and then their body builds up years of waste it can't get rid of and cancer is the result. I eat a wonderful nutritional product that is wholefood concentrated nutrition My children and babies eat it too. I have had 7 children and it has changed my life. I am no longer exhausted and sickly. This winter when everyone around us had the flu some of us had a little runny nose, that was it!! Our bodies with built up immune systems killed it off fast and dumped it out. Even my three year old who goes everywhere that there are sickly kids has done well. It doesn't mean you will never be sick again, but less and further and further apart. I even can put it in my baby's bottle and eat it pregnant and nursing, which I could not do with medicinal herbs. I love this food and get a thrill out of helping other moms find the answer to so many problems that go away with just feeding our hungry bodies. I am not online eeryday, so please call if you want to watch a free DVD with no hassle. ###-###-####. I am J.
These aren't vitamins but are supplements (personally I'm not sure what the difference is) ... I agree with those suggesting the DHA Fish oils and the live cultures (also called probiotics or acidolpholus) and vit C (3,000 __ per day for adults fighting something but I back off to almost none except what's in my multivitamin when I feel healthy. Kids probably get 1/2 that but maybe less for babies ... ask your doctor) ...
We all have flora in our intestines which help digestion and our immune systems. They are easily damaged by a "poor" diet of sugar and white wheat carbs. From my understanding ... Once damaged, sugar and any carbs that turn to sugars (like white wheats) will feed the infection causing further damage.
Most of us aren't getting enough cultures (adults need 5-10 billion a day, or half of that for children).. while you're at the health-food section or store look in the refrigerated section for live culture supplements ... it comes in powdered form or tablets which you can pull open and sprinkle on yogurt or cereal or in a drink (never sprinkle on hot stuff though cuz heat kills the cultures thus leaving them ineffective). Brands I like are Ultra Flora Plus or Jarro-Dophilus ... Jarrow does have some for children too. I double up on this stuff whenever we are sick with anything and it really seems to help fight off illnesses of any kind. It totally helps the digestion system get strengthened or back to normal. I'd cut all regular sugar because bad bacteria feed off it but Xylitol (a sugar alcohol) is safe according to my holistic doctor but use only 1/2 what the recipes call for. So the live cultures give your flora a boost to help heal you and keep your immune system strong.
DHA-EPA fish oils supplements help also and Nordic Naturals does make one for kids. Or you can eat 3-4 meals of wild salmon a week.
You can get these things in your diet usually but most of us aren't eating enough. Especially of the live cultures or probiotics.
Organic blueberries (anti-oxidents), EmergenC brand vitamins has a product called ElectroMix at healthfood stores and it replenishes electrolytes so your body holds onto water better to help your system not dehydrate. It comes in packets and it's powder you mix with water. No sugar added. I only give my kids 1/2. Stevia is the sweetener used in that which my holistic Doctor says is fine and better than sugar.
I agree that you want to find a trusted brand for any supplements. Ask around.
There's also a book out there if you decide to do some research called the "Immune Restoration Handbook" by M. Konlee and C. Lebeau which has recipes etc. for all sorts of ailments before they take hold or during them to help you system get back to health. I swear by the book's lemon/olive oil/ginger drink for colds. This book talks about brands or suppliers too if I remember correctly.
I don't usually have my kids take this stuff unless they ask for vitamins (which my 2 year old does whenever she sees me taking mine) or when they complain of a sore throat or tummy ache or gas or whatever.
Hi A.,
I have been giving my 2 year old vitamin C daily through this entire winter season. I buy ChildLife Liquid Vitamin C. I get it at Whole foods. It's a yummy liquid and it comes in a brown bottle with a yellow label. It doesn't prevent her from getting sick, but I think it does decrease the severity of colds, thereby cutting down on the ear infections and other secondary infections that require antibiotics (yuck).
I also think toddlers get sick the most from their 1st birthday to their 3rd birthday. My daughter's doctor said 8-10 colds a year is not unheard of or necessarily cause for concern.
Hang in there.
A.
I wanted to echo what Kelly V said. Vitamins are all well and good but the best way to avoid getting sick is to wash your hands. Avoid the antibacterial soaps since they can contribute to resistant germs.
Good luck
Kelly V. is correct. You will not protect against colds and flus by giving your kid vitamins; hand washing is the best form of prevention. Your child does need some exposure to illness for her immune system to be healthy.
I seem to remember giving my kids Poly Vi Sol (or however it's spelled). If it's recommended for kids your daughter's age, vitamins can't hurt, however.
The best defense is a good diet thereby getting all the things you find in a vit supplement in their natural more available forms, lots of sleep so the body has a chance to re-coup and lessening exposure with good hand washing. Do not use anti-bacterial had solutions they are being shown to cause more harm than good.
