You should give him just a couple ounces at a time and gradually move up how much you are giving him. It is sort of like weening him from breast feeding to formula.
Hi! My doctor told me about 2 months ago that it would be fine to switch my daughter from formula to milk. She turns one today so I was thinking it was about time to start the switch. But I can't remember exactly how this is done.

I am a stay at home mom of a 5 yr,3 yr, & 16mo old. You should start by adding just a little to the formula at a time. Adding an ounce or two at a time. Give it a few day or two and then add more until they are completely switched over. If they are still using a bottle they should be switched to a sippy cup as well. You start with just a little bit at a time so that you can watch for an allergy and so they gradually get used to the taste difference. With my youngest I knew he wasn't allergic so I tried just switching over to milk all at once. He threw a fit and wouldn't touch it. I had to go about 2 - 3 days where he didn't get milk at all. Only solids and water. He finally gave in and now he loves whole milk, but I wouldn't try just a cold switch. Good Luck!!
the day my son turned one...he is now 14 months old...i gave him whole milk in his sippie and he drank it...that was the first time he had ever had it...i just made sure the first day i gave him milk i was around him to see if he had any reaction or didnt like it...if your little one has already been exposed to dairy products and is doing okay then everything should be just fine...good luck
Try a small mix of whole milk with the formula to see if there is any allergic reaction, add a little stronger mixture of milk each day....(smile).
My son would have nothing to do with Milk mixed or not. I added 1/2 strawberry smoothie (in the dairy aisle at grocery) and gradually lessened the strawberry over the course of a week...he loved the smoothie's and didn't even notice the gradually taper. The day I did all milk he didn't even flinch. good luck!
I did half and half: Half formula and half milk.

Happy Birthday to your daughter :). The switch is easy -- your daughter probably won't hardly notice the difference. If you usually heat the formula, heat the milk the same exact way, and she should be just fine. I know with my three kids, they didn't notice the change at all -- AND it saved a lot of money with the cost of formula. I am now caring for my twin great nephews two days a week and I just made the switch with them about three months ago, and they did great. "Just do it" :) She'll adjust just fine and the whole milk is better for her, according to the doctors.
Blessings to you and your family !

Happy Birthday baby!
As for switching to milk I would suggest making the transition slowly. Depending on how many feedings you do a day. Try to start with a middle of the day feeding. For example, a mid morning feeding. I found that if the more routine feedings (right before a nap or before bed) can be difficult because those feedings "tell" your child it is time to rest/sleep. Also, if you child has difficulty with digesting cow's milk, those times of the day may not be the best time for him/her to have gas or tummy aches. Finally I would suggest to keep trying if your baby is resistant to the change, eventually he/she will like it.
Start with whole milk...babies need the extra fat in it.
Have you considered feeding your little one goat milk instead of cows milk? Goat's milk is the most similar to human milk - and much better than cow for your child. Also, people usually don't develop or have an allergy to it, unlike cow's milk.
a little at a time.. this is how I did it. I would add one ounce of milk to my child's formula (or breast milk) each time I gave them a bottle and increased the amount every other day or so, once ounce at a time until it was all milk
this will be a good way to gradually introduce her body to it and help her get used to the taste. A couple of my kids didn't do well when I went straight to milk so this worked well with the others... watch for any changes in her bowel movements... see if she breaks out in eczema or other reactions which could indicate allergy, sensitivity or intolerance - it may take time for something to show up though because the first time you are exposed to something - you're not going to have a reaction.. your body will have the reaction the second and third times, probably progressing to worse reactions each time. If she has had any other dairy products before this then she has had some exposure already so if she is allergic you may start noticing a reaction soon after you start.
but think positive.... this is another milestone in your sweet daughter's life!
I just gave my kids a little whole milk in a sippie cup...i warmed it up a little in the microwave...they loved it...whole milk tastes like ice cream!! good luck!
The way my son's daycare had me do it was to slowly add milk to their bottle. they would have me put in 2 ounces of milk in his bottle, fill the rest with water and add the formula. do that for a day or two, then add 4 ounces of milk and the rest with water and formula. then go to 6 oz etc till the bottle is all milk. It gives their system time to slowly get used to the milk. You could always ask the daycare too what they suggest.
Do it gradually. 3/4 formula,1/4 milk for a few days. Then 1/2 and 1/2 and so on.

Both my boys made the switch without any effort, just didn't seem to notice the difference. But you can start mixing 1/2 and 1/2 if she seems to have a problem with the different taste and texture....or a different ratio until she is comfy and then every few days use less formula and more milk.....you'll be on all milk in no time!
Happy brithday!!
Hey J.,
You should gradually switch so the baby doesn't get stomach upsets and diarrhea. Perhaps you can give whole milk at home and have the baby drink formula at daycare. Or you can use toddler formula (for 9mo-24mo). My daughter had a terrible time with whole milk at a year old from breastmilk, so I used Nestle Follow-up toddler formula then at about 18mo. I started her on soy milk alt. with formula. She didn't have any stomach problem. Good Luck
Happy Birthday to your baby!! When my daughter turned 1 we had a pretty smooth transition from formula to whole milk. We just replaced all her formula with milk. At first she seemed to be really hungry so she ate more solid food which was great. Watch out for your daughter getting constipated though -- we added a little prune juice to our daughter's milk and it took care of itself. Good luck!!
