My 10 week old boy is 17 lbs and 25 1/2". He is about to outgrow his carseat. I never expected to have such a big boy. Does anyone have a suggestion on another travel system that I can buy that will not cost me an arm and a leg. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Have you checked Graco? My son out grew his before he could sit up so my friend let us borrow hers. I think it went 30 pounds and 32 inches. You might want to check online for the correct weight and height limits. When my daughter outgrew hers at 6 1/2 months we just went to a Britax Marathon and placed it rear facing until she was one. I wouldn't spend lots of money on a travel system we just moved our son out of the car seat and into the stroller (it had an infant boot so he couldn't slide out).

We had the same problem with our son..he was a preemie and outgrew the carrier before he was 6 months old. Had I known I never would have bothered with a travel system. There isn't going to be another one out there for him that holds a heavier child then the one you have. You'll have to get a convertible carseat and a good stroller. Since your travel system is prett new you can probably sell it to offset the new carseat costs. We have an Eddie Bauer Graco one from Babies R Us that goes up to 80 or 100lbs and it's my favorite!! We also have a regular Graco one and an Evenflo that are both conertible that do the job but I don't like them near as much. We got those and a Jeep jogging stroller that I really like as well. It has a 5point harness, reclines, SO easy to steer (even one handed) & set-up/put away.

If you haven't bought one by September, you should shop at the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale...but know that if you can volunteer it's worth it, because that's when all the good stuff gets taken. They have many sales in the area, the biggest is the one in Fort Worth...check it out! They make all the sellers confirm that the seats are not recalled and they won't allow any that are stained, broken or missing major pieces.

You are not going to be able to find a full travel system that accommodates how fast he is growing. You need a good carseat, that converts from rear facing to forward facing (so you get more use out of it) and a good stroller.

Everyone talks about the Britax brand as the best in carseats and how long you can use them ( which it is). Just bear in mind that carseats have expiration dates. So even if you buy the one for $200 that goes from 5-100 lbs. chances are the carseat will expire before you have gotten the "full" use out of them.
Evenflo has the triumph for half the price. It only goes to 50 lbs, but my 3 year old (about to be 4, next week) is still in it. By the time she outgrows it, it will be time to buy a new one because this one will expire. Actually by then, I'll just buy a booster for $20..

We have just had to move from the infant carrier to a convertible car seat too. We didnt have a "travel system", just a good car seat and a good stroller so the switch is nothing too big for us. Yes it will be a bummer not to be able to put the carrier in a shopping cart but we usually "wear" our daughter any ways. We have a baby bijorn (spelling?) that we strap her into at the store. Those are expensive and if we had not inherited it would have gotten a cheaper one. We love it and are glad we have it. I spent days researching a new car seat and came up with The True Fit by The First Years. Here is one of the sites I used to gather info about it
http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2008/06/truefit.html
People have compared it to the Britax because of it's additional padding and weight limit but it is WAY cheaper. I got one for 169.99 (no tax, no shipping). http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-The-First-Years-True-Fit-Morning
You can still use the stroller part of your travel system. I wouldnt sell it if you plan on having more kids. You would hate to have to buy a new one next time.
Good luck!

Do you have the infant car seat or the covertible one? I would go with a Britax convertible rear facing car seat. He needs to be rear facing until he's 1, even if he's over the weight limit. Britax is the top brand out there, b/c it's the safest. I know it's expensive, but it will be well worth it! I had a 15% off coupon for Baby's R Us that saved us about $45.

Hey - I had the same problem with my son. Unfortunately, they didn't make car seats big enough for him to "grow" into. Now, all of the newer seats are better with accommodating larger children. My new baby girl just outgrew her carseat (big girl) and so I bought a convertible car seat that goes up to 100lbs. So, she should be able to use this as rear facing and then later as the forward facing. Further, it should also be her "booster seat". With my son, I had to buy a convertible seat (which probably went to 40lbs) and then later, I bought a booster seat for him. TOO MUCH MONEY. I'm trying to offset that a little bit this time by buying one bigger seat.

Now, the problem I had with my son is that he was out of his infant seat at 4 months and so he couldn't sit up in a grocery cart yet. I had him in a convertible seat in the car, but kept the infant carseat in the trunk to use in the grocery store.
