Same thing happened to my son. DON't use cortizone, it's terrible for anyone. Try organic coconut oil and I promise you will be very pleased. Try it on yourself too. Google coconut oil and read all the benefits. Great stuff!
My 15 month old has an odd rash. It's a bunch of little raised bumps located on the back of her right leg it ranges from her calf to the back of her knee to the back of her thigh. She also seems to have two patches of it on the sides of her stomach, just above the waist band of her diaper. It showed up a day or two before Thanksgiving and Cortazone seems to do nothing for it. She had just gotten over a full body rash just before this new one. I'm pretty sure it was the baby oil I put on her after her nightly bath, but I discontinued that and it cleared right up. Any one have any suggestions? It only seems to itch very mildly, she hardly notices it, but it's ugly and I'm vain when it comes to my baby.
Yesterday (Friday) I made up my mind to call her doctor on Monday. Tonight(Saturday) I changed her and it seems to have actually faded. I'm still going to call and make an appointment. I would really like to know what it is.
Today(Monday) we saw her doctor, he said it might just be a topical rash and that the Cortazone just wasn't strong enough. She has a prescription for some lotion with a stronger hormone mixed in and he said to give it a week. If it hasn't gotten better by then I'm to call and see him again. Tomorrow night we'll start her on the lotion and see how it goes.

It sounds to me like your daughter has an allergy. I have found that pediatricians will generally suggest a cure for skin problems without really getting to the bottom of what caused the rash. If it is an allergy, a topical cream will merely serve as a band aid and won't really fix the problem. And I have read that steroid creams are not safe to use on kids for long periods of time. In addition, when your daughter is exposed to the allergen again, the rash will come back. I would recommend taking her to see an allergist. Or even a wholistic physician -- who should be able to determine if it is an allergy or sensitivity without administering any invasive procedures.
My daughter is just getting over a rash too. It's not an allergy since she is 5 months and not even eating yet. She had it for 2 weeks and it was a virus (my sister is a pede. nurse and she says she's seen it lots). It was a virus with no other symptoms and just went away on its own.
I would definitely talk to the doctor but my daughter had the same thing and after many frantic phone calls and doctor's appointments we learned that it was similar to an allergic reaction. It was her body's way of reacting to a cold/ear infection. She would break out in these hive like bumps all over the place (more on her tummy, legs and back) a day or two before he actually got sick. The doctor prescribed a medicine stronger than Benadryl which would knock her out right away and then within a day or two the bumps would go away and she would have a cold.
Hi D.,
My son who is 1 had the same thing. I took him to the Dr. for his 1 year appt and asked about the rash. The Dr. said it was from dry skin and recommended eucerin cream (there is a generic at walgreens-a lot cheaper and the same thing) all over his body and face. His rash is practically gone. I use this on him in the am and pm and before we go outside. it really seems to help his skin. Hope this works

As mothers we want the best for our children and you are doing the right thing by going to see your doctor. However, you learned a very valuable lesson about about baby oil. Baby oil and any other mineral oil is bad for your skin. Especially young, tender skin. There are products that are pure, safe and botanically based that are especially made for young skin for body, diaper cream, etc. that are so much better for your daughter. What we put on our skin, even the clothes we washed with chemicals in our detergents, eventually ends up in our body. Oils, lotions with oils have the reverse effect - they don't let the skin breathe and just stay on top of the skin instead of going into the skin and working to keep moisture, retain pH balance without irritating the skin. If you really are concerned about the health and wellbeing of your daughter and your entire family, I can help you. I educate people on health and wellness, especially personal care products because it truly has a large effect on our health since our skin is the largest organ on our body. Good luck with all and I truly hope that you don't have to put steroids on your precious girl. They banned it in the sports field for adults, just think of the effects on a young child. Truly, ask your doctor why. Happy holidays too. How fun for you all.

I would have the doctor take a look, because my niece had bug bite looking raised bumps and it ended up being a staph infection and she had to go on antibiotics. It has returned twice now, and she had to go on stronger meds.
my son had something like this, started as a diaper rash and he scratched and it actually spread. Its some rash from normal bacteria that can get aggrevated. Anyway, my boy was on antibiodics because it got infected and it spread on his tummy and neck (if you use lotion or he touches and you touch some place else it spreads). Anyway, it took us about 3-4 weeks and it finally all went away. For us the issue is that it ITCHES and he scratches and it bled. I had to keep him in foot pjs and overalls to keep his little hands from getting at it!
Hand, foot and mouth disease maybe? If so, I don't think there is anything the doctor can do for it and it will go away on its own but worth checking it out.
