Hi,

I have a friend who is about to have a baby and I am giving her some things. We aren't going to have any more kids. I was wondering about how long a swing is used. I don't know that I will be using mine much longer but I don't want to tell her she can have it if I am going to be using it. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your responses. I am going to let my friend have my swing when she has her baby. I won't be using it then.

My kids didn't use the swings after they started trying to get out of them. Right around when they started crawling. Once they started sitting forward in the swing while it was going and looking over the sides, etc, I didn't put them in anymore. None of them used it past about a year.

Yeah, not a real long time. Until they're 6-9 months at the most.

Hi Tonya-

my first didnt use swing after about 3-4 months. We didnt use it at all with my second.

Hand me downs are such a wonderful part of life. I would encourage you to let her use it when her baby comes.

best of all things to you and yours

depends sort of on the kid but mine never liked them by the time they could crawl (sometimes sooner) so 9 months AT THE MOST.

I think its use peters out when the baby starts crawling. But I remember getting it out again when my big baby was almost a year old. He was sick and cranky and it was the only thing to soothe him He was still, amazingly, under the weight limit, which I think is 25 pounds. But I didn't use it regularly after about 7 months (when he started crawling, but that's on the early side).

My son got his cousin's swing as a hand-me-down when he was a couple of months old because he just loved swinging in it during a New Year's celebration. He used it until he was about 4-5 months old (crawling age) and he was starting to grab on to the side bars and stop himself (which he just loved to do and laughed lots, but I was worried he was going to flip himself out of it and would break it before future siblings could use it!). We loved having it as a hand-me-down because they are so expensive to buy for just few month's use! Anyway, hope this helps!

Check the weight requirements. Both of mine gave the swing up when they either hit the weight limit or could crawl so about 6 or so months. When they are mobile they don't really care for swings at all anymore.

My daughter hated it after three months and would rather lay on the floor and play however my son loved the swing and gave it up sooner because he was a much bigger baby.

If it is a swing with a five point harness go with weight requirements and if they like it or not. If it just has a lap belt only use until they can sit up unassisted. Have fun!

Our baby girl is almost 5 months and still uses it often enough I wouldn't get rid of it yet. We didn't use one with the older kids, but I do know friends who had to worry about the weight limit because their kids still liked them occasionally.

Good Question Tonya, Our baby is a big girl one year old and 30 lbs. It seems to me that the swing was in use for 7 mos. and we also used the one in the door way for 7 or 8 mos. also. Is your baby big or little? Once they are mobile crawling all over the place it can be a fun way to keep them in a safe stationary area for a bit of free time for yourself like maybe a shower!! K. My twins are almost 9 months and they haven't used their swings for a good 2-3 weeks. Hand-me-down swings are a GREAT way to go. Babies don't use them very long. We borrowed both of our swings and I'm really glad we did.
