Baked ziti. You get the Italian factor, but without the real mess of linguine or something like that. I craved Chipotle when I was pregnant. Along the lines of the taco bar below, you could always do just a generic mexican bar of sorts.
Hi! My baby shower is coming up soon and my sister is hosting it. She wanted to know what I wanted for the main dish for lunch. With all the cravings I have been having nothing really sticks out and I am stumped. I want something easy and that's not too messy but also something that is fun and baby shower oriented. With all the foods pregnant women are supposed to avoid( there will be at least 5 other pregnant people at the shower) I didn't want to have anything with lunch meat or sodium nitrates. Does anyone have any ideas????
Thank you for your responses!! I will let you know what I decide on :)

A yummy salad... with some soup, bread, fruit, cookies/brownies.
It's simple but it's a nice, light lunch. Here are the ingredients to my favorite salad, I'm always looking for an excuse to have it!
salad greens (any kind but mesclun mix is nice for this)
shredded cheddar cheese
dried cherries
slivered granny smith apples (cut up like matchsticks)
toasted walnuts (candied if you like)
sliced, grilled chicken breast
raspberry vinagerette
sooooo good!
You could always do a tea party type theme-finger sandwiches like chicken salad, cucumber, etc, have scones, fruit, mini muffins, that type of thing. I just went to a tea party shower and it was very cute.
Well you can do a taco bar or a baked potato bar. Those are always super yummy and everyone gets what they want.
Chicken salad croissants?
Egg salad croissants?
(Salads are big at showers! haha)
Or what about pasta and meat sauce or meatballs? With rolls/bread.
Do a "baby" theme:
baby spinach salad with strawberries and poppyseed dessing
baby carrots
baby red potato salad
baby back ribs
mini cupcakes
anything "baby" you can think of
or I like to do a party on a stick theme:
chicken satay
grilled veggies on skewers
skewered fruit
mini mozzarella balls wrapped in basil with a tomato on a toothpick
With my first pregnancy I was SO into spicy foods. Cajun pasta, wings, spicy sausage. Yum. My second pregnancy, I loved breakfast food. A breakfast buffet with sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy and potato's is so easy. It is defiantly not traditional, but so good for all the pregnant ladies.
