Stop the worrying.... He'll be fine.
In the days to come, he'll probably put much worse in his mouth!
I'm freaking out over here and my thoughts are racing. I was in the kitchen holding my 5 month old in my arms and while I was holding him I put him on the counter and right beside him was a plate that raw chicken was on and a spoon from his last feeding. He picked up the spoon and put it in his mouth. As soon as I realized it I took it out of his mouth. I immediately washed his mouth out with water as best as I could and gave him a bottle.What are the chances he might get salmonella poisoning?

One evening while preparing dinner, I unwrapped some chicken and put the empty package in the trash. My back was turned for a split second when my daughter pulled it out and was sucking on the raw chicken-soaked paper that was lining the package. I WAS FREAKING OUT!!! I did exactly what you did and was a nervous wreck for the rest of the night.
Nothing happened and she was fine. I think your baby would be fine.
I am sure he'll be fine! Not all raw chicken has salmonella, it is pretty rare. So hang in there and don't worry too much!
Eh, gross! LOL - I would call the Dr in the morning. They can probably tell you the signs to watch out for.

Just watch for any diarrhea.. I bet he will be just fine.
Slim, but be cautious and look for signs just in case, which are in the list here;

Contact your Dr. if any of the above signs develop, or 911 if the advanced signs develop.
Was it just sitting next to the chicken on the same plate, or was it actually sitting in the raw chicken juice/blood? Ick. Call the Peds office first thing in the morning just to be sure.
Not to scare you but if you see ANY signs- take him to the ER. Or even if you don't see signs call the Dr. in the morning. A friend of mine once put a pacifier near chicken once (or maybe it touched it) and the baby got sooo sick and had to be hospitalized for a few days. I don't remember all the details, as it was 3 yrs ago, but monitor him close and don't just think its gonna go away as it does with adults.
Poor thing- hope he's ok!
If that was the worst thing he ever put in his mouth you will be very lucky.
The government and the media has sensationalized the REMOTE (! ! !) possibility of salmonella being in chicken or any raw meat.
Before the media sensationalized the possibility of salmonella being in raw meat, everyone that I knew used the same knife to cut the meat before AND after it was cooked with no washing inbetween. We didn't have epidemics of salmonella sickness. Jack in the Box served MILLIONS of hamburgers and 5 or 6 people got sick. People are paranoid about bacteria in their food.
If he is going to get sick, it will occur in a few hours.
Good luck to you and yours.
