This gate is supposed to be designed for 'odd' positions:

Does anyone know of a baby gate that works between a wall and a stair banister at an angle? I know that is probably hard to picture but I can't find a gate that will attach because the banister column is not perpendicular with the wall, instead it's at a diagonal. Any ideas or suggestions?

Wow...what a "toughie"!
You might want to check with Home Depot, Lowe's, or Babies R Us, and see if their staff have any ideas. I'm sure someone at any of these stores would be able to help you "create" a safe stair zone, or adapt a "traditional" gate.
Whichever you decide on, make sure you have a gate for both the top and the bottom of the stairs! (sure beats having to carry it up and down each time)
We used this one on our stairs:

You can buy a Y spindle for the bannister that allows it to fit snugly, and it's a walk through expandable gate which is nice.
We put a piece of wood ( I know, not attractive) but effective, on ours and it worked fine. Just a small one big enough for the gate to mold to. Not perm of course, just until we didn't need to anymore.
I have a great babyproofer you can call and talk to, to at least get pointed in the right direction. "Dr. Babyproofer", Thom Golden. He's written some good information on the metroplexbaby website, and has a TON of experience not only babyproofing, but as an ER nurse, so he knows his stuff! He's very patient, and will come out and evaluate everything, and either sell you the stuff, or install it for you. He's the expert on strange spaces, and still not ruining the stuff in your house.

I've found the customer service phone line at KidCo to be fabulous with safety gate issues. Their safety gate website is http://www.kidco.com/main.taf?p=1 and their customer service number is 800-553-5529. I called them with a description of the area I needed a gate for, the dimensions, they asked a few questions, and told me exactly which of their gates I needed. When I was gate shopping a year and a half ago, they were rated very high by Consumer Reports. I hope this helps!
We used Little Bird Babyproofing, a guy out of Frisco, to do our gates on our stairs that are at an angle.
His phone number is ###-###-####.
He can either sell you the correct gate with pointers on how to install it or he can sell you the gate and install them too. We had him install them and so far they are holding strong.
