Hello to all... again. Well, it's that time of year, and I have NO IDEA where to start. it is my sons first birthday, and I am not sure how to begin planning... What kind of games are appropriate? I decided to stick with a red theme for decorations, as red seems to be his favorite color. Any ideas would be soo appreciated. I am VERY lost. I have never been a good planner of anykind, let alone a whole party. But I would like it to be special, and I would LOVE to do it right... I mean he will only let me plan so many of his parties!! Please help me ladies...

What can I do next?

Let me just say, do not go overboard. They do not even realize what is happening. My daughter was actually sick for her first so it did not turn out as I planned. You have to exspect the unexpected. It is more about adults. Have cute decorations and a cake, but really no games are nessary unless you have younger kids. There are some cute games on line. I just googled 1st birthday parties and there are many links. Just try to relax and enjoy your first year with your son. Too much and you will be too overwhelmed. Also, just a note, schedule it around his nap. Perferably afterwards, they seem to be in a better mood! Good luck and enjoy!!!

Trajans 1 yr. Bday is also coming up - we have a tiny, non-child proof house and his Bday is in Dec!
So we are having it at Gymboree in Boulder. We are members.....its a really cool place.great teachers.etc. We get 15% discount, otherwise $225 for 1 hr. w/ instructor and whole play area to yourself up to 20 kids - no planning on your part! Then 1/2 hour in other room if you are serving food. They supply invitations, plates, cups, hats, you provide food.

The simpler the better!! Right. If the party is going to be at your home then the best thing to do with the food is to buy premade foods. Salsa, chips, taquitos and guacamole. A bag of salad and some fried or rotiserie chicken. I love the 6 foot sub from walmart @ $29.98. Make some pasta with an itilian dressing add black olives to it add slices of pepperoni and dices of cheddar cheese. . Use the colored noodles and it will look gourmet. Throw in a cluster of grapes here and there and for the birthday cake it could be from the box or from the bakery. Day old cake is usually half the price and just as tasty as same day. Just throw out the container. Red sounds like a fun color and your baby will love it. Streamers are always great and you can tape your baloons to them to look more festive. As for games you can but game ideas at the party store. I hope these ideas helped. Good luck and god bless!!+

Ditto what Jennifer wrote. Simple is better, he won't remember most of it. Make him a little cake of his own to destroy, if you want. Keep it cheap and light. Save your money for when he really cares about what you do on his birthday and wants all his friends there.

Both my kids first birthday parties were low key--as everyone else has stated, it's mostly for you and the grandparents. Your son doesn't know the difference. I would give him his own cake (or cupcake) so he can make a big mess; that's really the best part! If you want to do red, you could do Clifford the Big Red Dog. I am sure there are Clifford decorations at most party stores. Unless you want a big party, you could just invite family and/or maybe a few good friends, and do something simple, like a pizza lunch, and cake and ice cream. I wouldn't worry about games unless there are several older children attending.

My only advice is to save your money, do it with family and friends and only that. The birthday parties after the first year get pricey, all the Chuck E Cheese, larger circle of friends. At one he won't even have a clue other then the wrapping paper and cake. Cut costs wherever you can and save for the years to come as that is when the big planning comes into play! For both of my kids I did something very simple, got their first bday cake free at King Soopers and just had close friends and family over. Seriously don't sweat the first birthday, it is more for you and not so much him! :)
