Infant Baby Boy Names

We have a lovely 17 month old daughter, Siena and are looking for great names for our son on the way this November. I would love to use my father's first name, Wells, but is this too old fashioned or different? He passed away 20 years ago this December and it would be fitting to name our son after him. I would love honest opinions and would love to hear some of your favorite boy names. Thanks in advanced Mamas!

I think Wells is great...I named my sons Thomas and Henry, both old-fashioned names. Honestly, I get so many comments on what great names they are, how it's nice they are not some silly made up name with crazy spellings. For me, they are strong names for boys I hope will grow up to be strong men (and not just physically). They fit them beautifully...if you love Wells, go with it!

My son has an unusual and old fashioned name, Dewey and he loves it. No one else at school has that name and no one really teases him about it too much. It's cool to have a unique family name. My daughter is named after an aunt and her great grandmother, Astrid Rose. I think family names are the best.

I like Wells, but, you don't mention the last name....Wells Washington is a bit much. Also, keep in mind, Wells rhymes w/ smells. And bells, and gels-etc....so, be prepared. I love the name Tucker, but, that rhymes w/ a f word that i don't need in my house. So, I skipped it. good Luck, I think baby naming is the hardest part of prenancy. The kid is stuck w/ it for forever.

I would say as long as your last name isn't Fargo you'll be fine. I think it's a wonderful idea to name your son after your father. Old-fashioned or not, having a different name is not a bad thing.

I would play with names and see if it fits more as a first name or a middle name. My father's name is Elvin and my husband and I have been discussing how to give that name to a son down the line. We are going to start trying for baby number two later this year or early spring. We are finding that the more we play with names, Elvin fits better as a middle name for us.

Most of all once you decide on a name, I recommend keeping it to just you and your husband. Because otherwise everyone, family and strangers, will feel the need to tell you their opinion on the name. You and your husband are the only opinions that matter in naming your son.

I love Wells Alexander, as it just popped in my head.

Good luck Mama!

Wells Fargo

First thing that came to mind.

I love family names, I really do, however, a name is so very important. Picture your child from infancy to adulthood with the name. Will he be teased? Will he be taken seriously? Can we even know any of this?? Probably not.. does it matter? Maybe not. It is unique, find a fitting middle name and it might even be really cool. I would have LOVED nothing more than to name my son after my Dad but I just couldn't do it. I didn't even make it his middle name and I sort of regret that. You wanted honesty, however, in the end the only opinion that matters is yours so do what you want to do!!

Favorite boy names:
Cory
Dane
Tyler Tyler Wells sounds good
Nicholas
Cole
Seth
Nate
Alex
Alec

all I can think of for now.. Best wishes!! M.

I like Wells! A family name is great, it gives you a story to share about how your son got his name. My daughter was named by her Daddy since I really wanted a boy LOL and told my husband that if the ultrasounds were right he could call her whatever he wanted, I was going to camm the baby Joseph =] Our daughter loves this story. My second child was named after my oldest brother and my step father ~ both Scotts, and he loves to hear how wonderful his namesakes were when living. Sadly my son never had the chance to meet either one. My last child was named by an unknown source ~ I know that sounds odd, but he had no name at all until I was in labor and we decided to name him Cory. And we now have Ian =} When Ian arrive my hubby said IAN and we had never really heard the name before and have no idea how that named popped into hubbys head! Turns out that IAN means God is gracious and this was the only child that we did not plan on having and we nearly lost him in delivery. So Ian is his name. Every name deserves a great story to tell your child and your child will love that his name has meaning. CONGRATS!

What an awesome letterhead name! My girlfriends and I always joked about giving our kids names that will look good on law firm letterhead, and Wells would be awesome as either a first or middle name.

When it comes right down to it, teasing is not a factor. If the name is teasable, use a nickname, or call your son by his middle name for everyday usage, if Wells makes a better first name. It's hard to give input without knowing your last name, but pick a name that you like and "work with it" in practical usage. Initials can make great nicknames, too.

My daughter has my unusual maiden name for her middle name and she couldn't be prouder because I use it as my middle name, too. If you love the name, your son will love it, too.

I like sentiment and I like different. This name has both. My mother's name was Carole (she'll be gone 10 years this August) and my grandma's name (her mother) was RoseLee (gone 19 years). I mixed the 2 names together to form Carlee, my daughter's name. It's not that I ever would have picked the name out for my daughter had my family not passed, but since they did, I can't tell you how much I love my daughter's name and just how special it is to me. My hubby didn't even like the name, but said he could see how much it meant to me and said we should do it. Of course now, he can't picture our daughter with any other name. Go for it - what a way to really honor your dad!

Maybe you could use Wells as a middle name. We did that to honor our grandfathers who were both named Joseph. For example,

Michael Wells, Jeremy Wells, etc.

The best thing to do is get a baby name book and read through the names for inspiration. Those books will tell you the meaning of each name.

Best of luck,

Its a nice name whether for a first or middle name.
But yes, "Wells" is a name that will rhyme with a lot of things...and as you know, kids can "tease" each other.
But its an nice strong, classy, unique, cool, hip, kind of name...and it has a family heritage honoring your Dad.

I like: Hunter Wells.... or, Wells Hunter... it sounds so dignified and 'regal' sounding and confident but with a nice spirit.

Or, Tyler Wells, or Wells Tyler...

Or, Wells Bradson.... or, Bradson Wells...
Or, Wells Connor... or Connor Wells....
Or, Wells Gerard... or Gerard Wells...

You also might want to go to those baby name websites...to check out the "meanings" of names. Some people name their children just by name and the 'sound' of it... and some like to research the 'meaning' of the name and the country/language of origin.
That is what we did with our children...

Well, just some ideas... PLEASE let us know what you decide to name your son! If you feel like it.

All the best, and congratulations!

I thinks Wells is an awesome name. I named my son "Jacob". Ugh, what was I thinking? When I call his name, half the kids at the playground turn around! If I could go back I would name him differently and it would be a name that is significant with a good backstory or name him after someone important in our lives. Go with Wells - it's strong, mansuline and significant.

Wells is a great name! Original and old fashioned names are very popular now, but also think of if your son will be happy with this name as he grows up. It's a great name for a man but for kids in school they may try to find out what Wells rhymes with and make fun of his name..you know how kids are.

Seriously, don't worry about being different or old fashioned in this day and age. As long as it isn't a totally weird name, you're really ok. "Old fashioned" names are actually becoming more popular. I like the name Wells. You can use it for a middle name if you're unsure about it. My son's name is Preston. I also like Christian, Jacob, Cole, Gabriel...
With all your choices, though, say all three names (first, middle and last) out loud together to see if it sounds right to you. There were some names my husband and I liked, but when we put them together we realized they didn't work.
Good luck and congratulations! Boys are fun!

I feel like a carry a piece of my familys history with me. My son was going to be Aspen or Aiden Gabriel....and of course we went with the uber long one...lol, so now he carries the mouthful of Aiden Gabriel. I like the name Wells too. In my experience you should go with whatever name you and your husband can agree on. Usually that narrows the choices a lot. :)

We named our boys: Kaden Thomas (Thomas is his Dad's middle name)- which we still like but Kaden is more popular than we would have liked and Asher Gage (Asher means happy and Gage just sounded cool in the middle). We tried to put a family name in the middle for Asher but didn't find one we could agree on. We've talked about Caleb(maybe too much like Kaden) or Dax(might be too weird for us though we kind of like the sound of it) if we have another boy. Names are such fun to figure out and such a headache too. :) Congrats on the Boy!

Wells - I love the name and how great to be named after an amazing family member. I have my grandmothers name that I never meet as my middle name and I always wished it would have been my first name. I thinks it great that the first person to commit thought of Wells Fargo because really it stands for a powerful name in banking. The bank is nearly 200 years old, it made it through the first depression and is not taking hand out through this crises.

I think it's important to carry on family names, and even though it's different, it has a purpose and is not just some random "name" that you made up..I have heard so many downright WIERD names and when I ask people how they got the name, they say they "made it up" and I think that sounds stupid!! the name sounds great but try it with your last name and see if it is a fit. Who cares what other people think............what a nice honor to your father

Wells is different and that does seem to be the trend. When I comes to choosing baby names I put myself at age 15 and try to imagine a boyfriend girlfriend situation. "Did you hear that Wells and Jen are going out?" Did you hear that Cole and Jen are going out?" And so on. My husband and I wanted to name our daughter after me and thus her grandmother. My grandmothers name and my middle name is Frances. We love that name but she would have to be Frances for the rest of her life. We decided to use it as a middle name instead. We are totally down with old fashion names so we went with Annabelle Frances. Annabelle is so pretty but she's not stuck with it she can be Anne or even Belle if she wants; although I hope that she sticks with Annabelle. If we ever get a boy he will be Maverick Ray. Raymond is my husbands middle name and my father in laws name. What it comes down to is do you think that there will be any regret in naming your child. Wells is totally cute but will he think so when he is 17.

I kind of like Wells... but I do think that uncommon names often sound very pretentious. In this case though, you are carrying on a family name, not making up some random new name that you think is different and trendy. I think it comes down to whatever your last name is. If it sounds alright with your last name I say go for it!

I like the name Wells. Is that possibly short for Wellington? I new a man named Wellington whose men friends gave him the ridiculous nick-name of "Beef"...yes, as in Beef Wellington. I actually like the name Wellington too...but not that nick name! I also am partial to Samuel. Good luck, have fun naming!

Go with your heart. We came across a unique name before my son was even thought of. We named him Boston Aaron. Then I found out about (3) other Boston's! I thought it was unique LOL. We love it.

I honestly Love that name! It is very strong and unique. (You do not want such a common name that they have to be labeled with the last initial at school.) Old fashioned names are coming back. It is also great because it means something special. (I really love the name Siena, too, btw.)

What an honor to be able to name your child a family name!! I wish I had a boy, so that I could of named him after my late FIL, whom I adored. We didn't like the feminine version of his name, & we kept hoping...anyway...I've already HEAVILY hinted at my girls what I think the 1st grandson's name should be!! Hopefully, one of them will like his name enough to do it. Congradulations!
