Speghetti dinners at your church are often a nice fundraiser. It depends on the size of the church and those willing to participate in bringing in the food on a voulnteer basis. Then ask people to pay for dinner or offer a donation. You can also do a bake sale at the same time.

Fundraisers that bring in the bigger dollars are much harder to plan. You could do a bowling fundraiser. Ask a bowling ally to donate a night to the cause or free up a night and still pay them, but at a discount or something. Then talk to EVERYONE you know to see who's on board. You'll need someone from his work (if he works), some close family members and a few of HIS friends to be on your "board of directors". 1 person can't do this effectivley. If the bowling ally has a marquee ask them to announce the event for a few days prior. Put it in the newspapers. Ask the bowlers to pay $30 for their night of bowling (3 games or something). Theme it so it's fun... the first game is regular, the 2nd is crazy bowling, the 3rd is backwords/granny roll... just to make it fun. This money will go toward whatever cost the bowling ally charges & t-shirts that all match for those who are working the event (unless you can get those donated too)

Ask local businnesses, family and friends to donate items for a silent auction. Get tables set up with the items and a box in front of each item for people to drop their bids in, highest bidder wins. You get to keep 100% of these proceeds since the items were donated. You can get signed hockey items, baseballs, hats etc. Gift certificates to restruants and stores. Gift baskets, hair cuts, golf items... really anything any business is willing to give you. Let them know if they will donate an item withing 2 weeks before the event then you'll put their name on a sponser name by the door and announce their name during the event. If you can't get the signage free from a local printshop - or discounted look for another on! You should at least be able to get a donation and they they can put their names on the sign too!

P., I am so sorry to hear that about your Nephew. I'd love to help you with ideas. I have several ideas, my best friend walks the 3-Day every year, and I help her with fundraising. The biggest types of fundraisers that I find to be successful are ones where people get something - since most of us like to shop! Some examples are: The Pampered Chef and Body Shop do fundraisers, where people come and buy stuff and a certain % of the sales goes to the cause. If you need contacts or more info, let me know - my aunt sells PC and my mother sells Body Shop.
Another successful event is a scrapbooking crop day. You get a space - like at a church, and basically provide table space for people to work on their scrapbooking. Also, if its an all day event, you provide, snacks, beverages, lunch and or dinner. If you get all the food and hall donated, you can make out really well!!! These events usually go for about $35 a head. So even if you only had 20 people attending - that's $700!
Lastly, pancake breakfasts are generally pretty successful as well, if you know a lot of people. They usually generate $300 to $500. especially if you do some type of raffle(s) with it.
If you need any more info or ideas, please let me know!!
Good luck with your efforts!!!!

Hello P.,

Shaklee has a great fundraiser for it's "Get Clean Starter Kit". The "Get Clean" kit was introduced on the Oprah show last week as one of her amazing finds. Shaklee is a natural health and wellness company that produces personal, home care, vitamins, etc..for healthy living. I believe this is a great fundraiser because not only are the products good for the environment, your home and family, also the products really saves the buyer money.

If you want to know more about the "Get Clean" Fundraiser please email me and I will show you how to get started.

Sincerely,

Hi P.,

First...I am so sorry to hear about your nephew and I wish your family all the hope in the world with this disease. I went through the same type of Leukemia with my mom and it is a hard road. We also did a fundraiser to help my dad with all of the expenses because with my mom's illness they had to shut down their business and my dad was pretty much left with nothing after spending 4 months sitting with her at the hospital and taking care of her when she came home on hospice.

We rented a hall (we couldn't find one to donate the space for us) and sold tickets for $15 in advance and $20 at the door. We had a DJ (he volunteered his time), someone donated 2 kegs of beer for us, and everyone we knew helped make enough food to feed over 200 people (things like sloppy joes, cheesy potatoes, baked beans..etc.). We also went around to area businesses and collected donations for raffle prizes and had an auction. In all we raised over $8,000 for the evening and this was all planned and done in just over a months time. My mom passed away 1 1/2 weeks before the benefit so we even lost a week of preparation for her funeral. It can be done and you will feel so good in doing it. Technically, in order to hold a raffle you are supposed to get a license from the state but it takes a while and a lot of paperwork. We didn't do that...we just went ahead with our benefit and decided to play dumb if it was brought up. Good luck!!

P.,
A year ago my dad had a kidney transplant. We live in northern Michigan and had to travel down to Henry Ford Hospital for it. My aunt came up with the idea to do a garage sale fundraiser. We had someone donate a empty office space in their building and then everyone and everybody in the community donated things. We did this last spring when everyone was cleaning out their garages and houses. We even had someone donate a patio set along with many other items. We didn't sell the items for much but it was great to see to see so many people help out. My fathers work Taylor door even donated some doors to be sold. It was sooo awesome. Put it this way it was enough for all of the family to rent an apartment down by the hospital for the week and also to cover the many trips (2 times a week) after the surgery. Just an idea....

I would try to come up with a specific event, pancake breakfast, auction, etc. Then you can ask local businesses for donations of auction items or stuff neeeded for pancakes. Most businesses are willing to donate items rather than money. The auction may also be something that is fun in light of your nephew's stress and worrying. I work for a non-profit and our biggest fundraiser is the annual auction. If I can help please let me know.

You could call VFW's, K 0f C's and possibly do spaghetti dinners. Have a dinner on a Friday night and charge a specific amount that goes right for your nephews medical expenses. You could go to party stores and set up canisters for donations.

Well, if you attend church you can always speak with your pastor and they could probably help you organize a fundraiser. Or you can do a search online for fundraising. There are tons of companies that you can find online that will help you do fundraisers. I found one called chef-co that seemed really neat and their website said that you don't have to have any money to do one of their fund raisers. Google search engine should give you quite a few options, just type in fundraisers and hit search. Good luck, your family will be in my prayers.
