I absolutely love my brown sandals. I have probably had them for 5 years now so they are showing signs of wear. I have been looking for a suitable replacement for probably 3 years now and can not find anything that compares. So I keep wearing them hoping that no one notices how bad they are getting.
I'm starting to learn that I do this with a lot of shoes. I agonize buying a new pair because many are not that comfortable or cute. I forget just how hard it is to find 'that' pair and then I don't realize they are "THAT' pair until they no longer make them.
Does anyone else have this much trouble shoe shopping or is it just me?
P.S. I am considering consulting with a cobbler to see if those brown sandals could be repaired. Is that just insanity?
I'm sooo glad I am not alone. I thought I was the only one who walked away from the shoe department empty handed time and time again.
I have tried eBay on a few occassions. I have also looked at thrift stores to see if by chance someone had the same shoe and didn't wear it to death. Deep down I know it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Maybe shoe companies should take heed and not be so ambitious to introduce new styles all the time since us women can become attached to a style. I suppose new is not always better!
Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

I, too, have shoe attachment. I wear them until I look at them out of context by chance and think "Whoa--those are SO shabby!"
I have bought the same exact Clarks sandals several times. Not to mention the shoes you *think* are *the 'new' ONES*, and they're not, and they sit. And sit.
Check ebay! I have had success finding styles that have been discontinued there.
omgosh, I thought I was the only woman in the world with this problem!! I too suffer from unhealthy shoe attachment issues. I get so attached to a pair that I just find myself comparing all shoes to that pair. I can't tell you how much money I've wasted buying shoes that I don't wear because they just don't stack up to 'that' pair. It's so frustrating!!!
LOL! My hubby FORCED me to buy a new pair of shoes, when the ones I have been wearing finally had the sole separate from the tops. :P He was going to throw my 'old' shoes away... and I went a little apeshit on him... and kept the shoes... which I still wear after using leatherworking tools to sew them back together. Definitely get them repaired! A good pair of shoes can't be overvalued!
Me too! I have shoes that are 3,5, 7, 10 years old and I can't find suitable replacements. Did just find a good few pairs at DSW in Robinson a couple weeks ago. I want to get rid of my old shoes, but can't until I find something new to wear, and just put it off!
Do it. My husband is handicapped so we buy EVERY pair of shoes in his size and style then return them all because they are not quite right.
We found out bootmakers will do this really cheaply. We have one pair he wears that are 9 years old.
If we ever find a pair that works, we are going to buy 10 pairs. If he changes, we can sell them later on ebay.
I have taken my boots into the cobbler THREE times in the past two year. It's damp and cool most days, where I live, so I wear them almost every day.
I have two pairs of Dansko shoes..One sandal one clog with a strap over the arch. I will die the day they stop making them....They are about the most comfortable shoes...My mom got me hooked when I was prego with my first.
Now when I am not wearing them for any walking longer then an hour..I am in big trouble.
Us shoe nuts are out there. I had a girlfriend take her fav shoes to a local cobbler...So no you are not insane! It can cost more then buying new shoes..but if it makes your favorite shoes last longer...IT IS WORTH IT!!!
I am just like you about my sandals. LOL
I don't have attractive feet, and I don't wear sandals with a thong through the toes. I also tend to find a pair that really work and end up wearing them ALL THE TIME. By the time I notice I'm doing it... they are gone out of the stores. Or they are out of my size (8.5).
I HATE shopping for sandals (or any shoe really) because I have wasted so much money over the years on pairs that I THOUGHT would be what I was looking for, only after wearing them to an event, they gave me blisters or rubbed me the wrong way (literally) or made my feet sweat WAYY more than they should so that my foot is slipping around in the foot bed. (YUCK).
My problem is that I live in Coastal GA where we get those summer time pop up thunderstorms all the time and I'll be out running errands and come out of a store and the parking lot will be a pond. One run through that with leather sandals and they are ruined. Maybe not immediately, but the foot bed gets worn spots where my toes go after they've been wet, every single time. They always last until that rainstorm...
Ugh.
So yes, I have trouble shoe shopping too. And when I find a pair I love-- I DO LOVE them! LOL
And I love Clark's too.
I bought a pair of sandals several years ago that were sooo comfy, that I bought a second pair to keep in the closet. Once the first pair wore out I just pulled out the second pair.
I don't know what I will do when this pair wears out. Go barefoot maybe.
LOL
I'm so glad there are others like me! I just bought my second pair of Keen sandals, same sandal, same color. These replaced the pair I wore every day for 3 years! They finally kicked the bucket. They had the style I wanted in store and on sale on line, but it wasn't the same color, so I spent $30 extra to get the same color. My hubby thinks it's funny, but he understands since he saw the amount of use I got out of the last pair. I'm hoping these will last another 3 years, and that they don't stop making them! I've already planned my next purchase around us ttc in the fall. I'm going to wait and see if my feet get bigger, and then as soon as I know I'll be buying another pair! Wow, I really sound crazy!
