My husband & I have booked a trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Can anyone offer up any type of advice about the area? We love to snorkel and are pretty active on our vacations. We also love to splurge on dinners & nightlife while we're on vacation without our son. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Not to burst your balloon but... My sister went there a few years ago and said it was BORING. Unless you like staying on the resort, there's not much else to do and not many places to go. Also, the food at the resort is wickedly over priced.

K.,
My family was there this past summer--5 adults and 3 kids. We all enjoyed it! Yes it's true the food at the resort is ridiculously over-priced, but there are several choices on the resort grounds. The Wall of Great Water is a neat place to eat. We also liked Mama Lou's which is Chinese food. You can also leave the resort and check out some other places both on Paradise Island as well as the main island. (Just a "short" taxi ride away, depending on traffic.)

There are tube rights and water slides that even adults can enjoy. Lots of choices of pools. And beach.

As for snorkeling, we used Stuart's Cove. It's about a 30 minute shuttle ride, but well worth it, instead of snorkeling closer to Atlantis. You can either book directly with Stuart's Cove yourself (just look them up online) or you can do it at Atlantis. We booked just a couple days before we went and didn't have any trouble getting our party of 8 in. You get to snorkle in 2 different reef sites, and at the end you get to lay on the water above a group of reef sharks being fed from below by scuba divers. The sharks are probably 40-60 feet below you. You don't have to get in the water with them if the thought freaks you out. Then once everyone is on board the boat again, the crew will feed the sharks off the back of the boat. Very cool!

Feel free to message me personally if you have other questions I might be able to answer for you!

Have fun on your vacation!

We went a few years ago and loved it. There is so much to choose from and you will be able to snorkel and do a lot of things outdoors. We swam with the dolphins and it was a blast. There are some great things to do for nightlife (yes it can be expensive) right at the resort so you can have a great time and you are only a short distance from the room. They have a casino area with an upscale seafood restaurant that you will probably enjoy.

My girlfriend went a couple of years ago. She said it was nice, but highly overrated. And she said the pool area was insane, she said she would have to get to the pool area around 6 or so to save lawn chairs because of all the people. Everyone has a diffent outlook on everything, im sure you and your hubby with no kids!!! will have a great time, thats all that really matters!

K., my husband and I went in October 2006 and had a wonderful time. For our honeymoon we went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and didn't like it near as much as we did the Atlantis. In the casino is a sports book, a sports bar, and gambling. They even have casino gaming classes where we learned to play craps and roulette. I was 5 months pregnant at the time, so I didn't get to partake in the slides, but my husband did and loved it. It is true that the pools are VERY crowded the longer you wait to get down there, but it was all relaxing and enjoyable. If you drink sodas, I highly suggest going off of the resort to the "conveience/liquor" stores to get them. Buy a 6 pack and just take it back to your room. You can most things a lot cheaper off of the resort. There is a little village across the street from the resort which in some places are still part of the resort where they have a Johnny Rockets and a Starbucks. We had an awesome time even though it was expensive, but what do you expect with a resort?

Oh and there is a movie theater with new movies that are free to the patrons on the hotel in one of the towers. Their refreshments are cheaper than anywhere else on the resort and cheaper than most movie theaters in your city. And if you eat at Valentino's, just order 1 plate and split it between you and your hubby, it's enough food to feed a small army, trust me. And it's cheaper to drink alcohol than it is sodas and water. A 1 liter bottle of Fiji water cost us $9.00. Have a great time!

Hi K.,

Like someone else said everyone has a different outlook on things, so hopefully you will enjoy your stay. We were there a year ago. With our daughter 5 and our son 3. I thought it was way over priced. I mean whenever you go to a resort like this prices will be steep yes, but the quality of food/services is better. This place is so crowded and the staff is very mediocre, probably because of how many people in high season. I would never go back again. The pools were nice but so crowded, very difficult to enjoy. I am hoping you wanted different experiences so hopefully you will have a great one.

My husband and I went in January 2006 and had a great time! It is expensive, but the casino is fun and if you like sushi, the resort has Nobu, a fantastic world-renowned sushi restaurant. We also ate at several other wonderful restaurants on the resort, but I can't remember the names. No need to leave the resort in my opinion!
