At What Age You Left Your Daughter Shave?

My beautiful girl is 12, she have been complaining about the hair on her legs. When I was her age I use to hate the hair in my legs too, I think I had more then her, and my mom didn't let me shave. We have dark hair, and I guess a little more than avarage. Of course when I start shaving it just came thicker and spiky. I remember feel a slave of the shaving, I couldn't use skirt if I didn't shave every day (it grows very fast in my family).
I feel her pain, but I know once you start you can't stop and I think she is too young for. I told her she could shave her under arms because I thought that was more embarrasse, at least for me when I was her age. But now she ask why one but no the legs?
Do I am being silly? At what age you would let your daughter shave?
Note: I help her shave her under arms and she didn't shave again until a week later, just because she was going to camp this week. I am wonder if she is ready for the responsabilty?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your response, you actually remind me when I was around her age and my mom didn't let me shave and I shave anyway, but then I relize that I had to hide my legs from her, so I had to wear jeans, which then the whole shaving thing was useless, lol.
I can't believe that she will be shaving : (
I am sad to think that now she will have to shave everyday, is a pain in the butt! Perhaps for her is not pain but fun.
Thanks guys

I started shaving my legs ( to the knee) at 12 or 13 and my hair is dark but not thick. Most of my friends started in 7th grade around the same age. I'd say the time has come. It is better if you teach her and get her what she needs or she will probably try it on her own.

I am already considering it for my 10 year old. She has dark hair. I think I was 13 before I started, but, I had hardly noticeable hair. My mom made a rule that only to the knees for me, and, I probably will for her. Seems like the top part does not grow as thick or as much. Good Luck!

My older daughter started shaving at 12 years, 6 months. My younger daughter started shaving at 11 years, 5 months, which was last month. With my older daughter, I had to encourage her to do it (last summer before she started swimming Varsity for her high school), and the younger daughter asked me after she noticed and was embarrassed by her underarm hair. I wonder if you ask your daughter to be consistent and independent with her underarms, and then let her start her legs, maybe set up a chart with the reward being shaving her legs. Good luck!

This question comes up pretty often here. My daugher is now 10 1/2 and has been shaving her legs in one way or another since she was 8. She too has very dark hair and it just made sense for us. At first I did the shaving for her when necessary (for special events where she would be wearing a dress, etc.). Then she did it with an electric razor (no cuts - so easy). Now she shaves herself with a 3 bladed razor. She also shaves her armpits when necessary. She is mature and I'm told by her pediatrician that we should expect her period in the next few months or so. (the rule of thumb she goes by is about 6 months or so after underarm hair appears).

I should say that my daughter, although mature and developed, does not wear make-up or revealing clothes. She dresses fashionably but not what we would consider inappropriate. We are very conservative Christians. Not that that matters, but I just wanted to let you know that we understand she's still a young girl and the leg shaving was more a matter of personal comfort, not necessarily vanity or pushing her to grow up.

I also get her upper lip waxed as well as the space between her eyebrows (nothing else on the eyebrows until she gets a little older). She has very dark hair on her face and it really needed to be waxed. She is appreciative that we have this done for her.

Best of luck to you - and if your daughter wants to shave, please consider letting her. Not out of peer pressure, but out of personal hygene.

Definitely at 12 she is ready for something. But, what about waxing? Or the hair removal creme? Either way, she should do something because kids will tease. My oldest daughter stared shaving when she was 11 or 12, but she had light hair. I feel your pain because I have dark hair and was teased as a child, as far back as in 2nd grade. I tried shaving on my own when I was about 10 and gave myself a 10" gash using my dad's razor. Good luck!

My daughter is twelve and she started this year. She's still getting the hang of it and her work is quite patchy! :)

I do provide her with shaving lotion for women and what I consider to be a very expensive razor. I didn't want her to cut herself, so I got her a really good razor that she can hold and manipulate easily.

Every once in awhile, I have to go in and do the pits for her. I think she just can't see what's going on and she needs the help, especially in the summer.

It's gone fast, hasn't it? Our beautiful girls shaving already.... sigh...

Hope this help, good luck!

I remember being at summer camp when I was 12 and the girls in my bunk had brought Flicker razors with them to camp. I was in awe... hadn't even thought of shaving but everyone else was! So, I asked my mom to bring me a razor for visiting day and starting shaving!
I think that if she is uncomfortable with hair on her legs that this is probably a good time to let her start shaving.... It's not dangerous... a nick on the leg once in a while...

She is 12 and in what 6th or 7th grade...you have to let her..especially if her hair is dark...do you really think that she will not jsut do it on her own then? Better you know then she tries sneaking and hurts herself....there are worse things in the world...every woman is a slave to shaving so what can you do?

I just feel that there are small things you can do...kids are mean..I'm sure you don't want her to be teased....it's not like she's 6....it's not the end of the world...a lot of my friends have 11 and 12 year old daughters and they all shave, or nair etc.

When she feels self conscious about it she needs to shave. This effects her self esteem.

My 15 yr old was shaving by 10. The age isn't the factor...it is does she need to and does it help her self esteem.

Hi,
I was about 12 when my mother started to let me shave. I too have dark hair that grew quite thick and yes I am a slave to the shaving. I do remember being teased about and you don't want that for your daughter. I did try on my own before the approval and I ended up cutting myself pretty bad but couldn't tell my parents 'cause I wasn't supposed to be shaving! You don't want her to have that happen, believe me, I have the scar still.
