Last year was the first time I ever colored my hair-I went dark & love it! My friend is the person who has done the color for me. She uses Redken Shades EQ. For the life of me I cannot remember the color it's a deep dark rich brown...I need a touch up-my sandy blonde roots are showing. My friend is so busy so I was hoping to get direction as to a store brand. Like I said I know nothing about color-- cool, warm, natural and the shades yikes! I know if you are not careful it can be a mess so anyone have experience they would care to offer?

What can I do next?

You could go to Sally's Beauty Supply or Ulta and they should have the exact Redken you are looking for, or point you to another professional matching product.

I dye with store brands, but if were to switch, would do the entire head the new color.

Good luck:)

I get my hair colored a chocolate brown it's a rich color, I use the boxes when I can't afford the hair stylist, off and on during the yr.
I have white hair roots to hide..so here's what I do I do it as a retouch because you've already had hair color on before. So follow the touch up directions (this will help your hair not to turn out too dark). Even if it's 2 months I still follow the touch up directions.
At the end when you can put the color through out all your hair I use more and put a little water on my hair to help really spread it around. Leave on according to the directions then rinse in the shower (however you like to rinse) and you should be fine.

Don't worry too much I used to work at a salon and yes redkin is great but there's some pretty good stuff out there. You will be fine and even if the color isn't exact since you've waited to grow a bit from last color it will work out fine.

I like going to the hair stylist best because her color no matter what box I use her's doesn't fade so much...I still get the white roots and I've been looking at them for a week now but the rest of my hair hasn't faded.

My stylist doesn't get upset she even say's there some pretty good stuff out there for a box.

I colored my hair from 14 - 23 (hubby one of those natural hippy types, I'm seeing gray so I won't be natural for long) that was 10 years ago so my info may be a bit out dated. If you are really concerned find out if there is a public beauty supply place near you. I always had really good service, the folks at these places really know what their talking about and they should be able to help. Also, I remember seeing ads for a root touch up product, you might be able to find what your looking for in a regular store. Don't apply the color in an area you can't get messy... because it will be. I use to take a mirror out into my garage to apply color. Good luck! PS if you really mess it up it will cost more to have a salon fix it than to do it in the first place... just keep that in mind.
