I love to cook and would like to try more Asian cooking. I have Thai and Vietamese cookbooks, but I need to find a good Asian Market to get authentic ingredients. I have never been to one and I am a little intimidated to just walk into one (I am not Asian). Does anyone know of a good one? Will I be lost, or is it fairly easy to find what you are looking for? It would be great if I could find a place where the emplyees speak English and are helpful to people like myself who have no idea what they are doing : ) I liv ein the Flower Mound area and have heard Carrollton is the place to go. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

No you won't be intimidated and the BEST one to go to that I've found is down on Josey and Beltline in Carrolton. There are two markets, each on one side of Beltline. The one on the south is good, the north isn't.

I don't know the name of it, it must be in Asian, but it's easy to figure out and it's right next door to a Bakery and a Thrift Shop.

Can't say the people are helpful.... I've never bothered to ask questions, but they speak some English because they speak to me when I check out.

I hope you get some good responses on this. I am half Korean and always looking for someplace more convenient to shop at! We used to go to a great Korean market in south Irving on Belt Line but it closed a few years back. Since then, we've been going to Ko Mart on Royal Lane, close to I-35 between 35 and MacArthur. It's decent but not my favorite. And living in The Colony, I'd love to find someplace closer to here. There's a market in Plano that I've been to once, can't remember for the life of me what it's called or where it is though.

The closest one to you would probably be the new market at Josey Lane and Frankford Road in Carrollton. My husband who is Caucasian used to be intimiadated going with me, but he got used to it and we see non-Asians shopping there all the time. I can't say that employees of these stores are overly friendly or anything, you kind of have to know what you're looking for. I need to stop by there sometime soon though. If you want, message me and we can meet up and shop together :)

I'm Vietnamese and just out of curiousity, what kind of food are you planning on making?

There is Hiep Thai Market and Truong Nguyen Market which is both on Walnut and Jupiter in Garland. Also Hiep Phong on Walnut and Plano Road and then Hong Kong Market on Walnut and Audelia. I like Hong Kong Market better because it is bigger and cleaner. OR Saigon Tapei which is on Buckingham and Shiloh which is the newest one. There are more asians in Garland, so you will find more markets there.
