I mean just your plain-ol-tired variety.
Sometimes I wake up tired & my tasks for the day can seem daunting.
Not today though. Today I woke up energetic, well rested & a positive attitude. Yay!
But sometimes, I do wake up tired.
What about you guys?
Ever feel like you're off to a slow start to the day?
What do you do to kick-start yourself?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

L.Z. - what did I do to turn my day/mood around? I watched the news (it always makes me grateful for what I DO have), kept with my 1 cup of coffee limit per day (& if I do need one around 3pm when I hit my slump because I get up so early....I allow myslef 1/2 a cup of coffee), ate right, got to bed right on time, drank plenty of water, got some exercise (DVD at home), saw a friend w/our kids for an hour, looked at my annual goals, looked at my daily 5 grateful list, ate right (plenty of veggies/fruits/not much processed foods) and lastly didn't do anything I really didn't want to do (only ran 1 "must do" errand, put off the shopping by one day, didn't visit my grouchy aunt....will see her tomorrow, took my child to the park etc). Basically got a tiny bit more sleep, ate right, renewed my attitude, was grateful, made darn sure I squeezed in a bit of exercise...no excuses, limited my caffeine etc. New day, new opportunities! Fresh start! Today is worked. Most days it does but some does.....not as much! :) I can always try.

No, no, no, you're question is all wrong. It should be "As A Mom, Ever NOT Feel Tired?"

The answer to THAT is rarely. And ONLY after my morning coffee.

Do I ever NOT feel tired?

No. I can scarcely remember what not-tired feels like.

I do find I can get through my spells of exhaustion better if I drink a steady stream of water, though. It also helps to have one or two nights a week where I can catch up on sleep. I HATE doing things like leaving dirty dishes in the sink, but every once in a while it has to happen. I've learned to just do the dishes the next morning and not get caught up in thinking that I'm on a slippery slope to ruin.

Also? Coffee. Just the word "coffee" pretty much says it all.

When my oldest was born my dad told me that being a parent means always being tired. I think I cried when he said that, but I've come to learn that it doesn't always mean being as tired as I was when my oldest was a newborn! I've also come to realize that you build up a tolerance and don't even always notice it.

But, yes, I am often tired. It just doesn't usually bother me so much anymore. But housework? Forget it! I loath housework, so there is not one day where I wake up and do not dread the housework there is to do.

Most days?

I rarely do this, but getting out of the house right away to walk the dog usually helps. Sitting in bed dreading and procrastinating on the day usually doesn't help.

Haha every day (literally)! There just aren't enough hours in the day for work, family, etc. I'm doing a detox next month during which I really hope to improve my sleep habits and see an increase in energy. I've been tracking my sleep using an app on my tablet and it's been startling to see. I had a nice streak going last week where I slept 6-8 hours a night for 5 nights in a row but the last three have only been 4-5 hours a night.

I know that on a day like today, where I'm running a huge sleep deficit, I should be extra careful about eating protein and veggies and exercise but these are the days when breakfast become hot cocoa and ritz crackers and baby-bel cheese...a sugar/carb nightmare. I'm planning on rebooting at lunch with a cup of warm water with lemon and cayenne and some homemade turkey vegetable soup, and a walk.

My problem is that no matter how tired I am all day, I'm wide awake at 10 PM when my body should be winding down for the night. It's probably a cortisol issue (low in the morning and high at night, when it should be the opposite) so I'm hoping this detox helps reset that a bit.

I do not get enough sleep on a daily basis and I know it. I wake up tired every morning, but there just isn't enough hours in the day to get the sleep I require.

When the alarm goes off each morning, I do not hit snooze. I get up and get moving with the idea that I can go back to bed once the kids are out the door. I never do, but it is enough of a carrot to get me moving each and every day.

Um...I want to know what you did differently to make today so great, so I can do it, too!

We are ALL tired, ALL the time.

That being said, I manage my sleep fog with fancy coffee (I make at home) and wearing a pedometer. I have a goal of taking 10,000 steps each day, so I trick myself into feeling that all the running around, picking up toys, tiding the house etc is really a thing I do for myself (to achieve my daily goal). It keeps my mood positive and my jeans fitting. :)

I almost always feel tired. I have suffered from sleep issues since I was a small child, including sleep paralysis and frequent waking. I have tried to be more active, cut out sodas, changed my diet, but nothing seems to really work. The issues all get worse in the winter when my poor ability to sleep is confounded on by the lack of sunlight here in Alaska. To get me through what has to be done I often turn up some really up beat music and get myself singing and dancing as I go about my daily tasks, it helps keep my energy level up and makes the time rush by much faster.

Yes, I wake up like that almost every day. I manage chronic medical conditions and neurological conditions of both myself and my son.

I force myself to get up and do what absolutely MUST be done in that moment whatever it may be. I relish in the small pleasure of completing whatever it is even if it is just a typical task such as making breakfast or getting dressed.

I realize to most this may sound silly but I've found that it is the most simplistic things that need to be enjoyed because who knows when/if I can do it again.

In the winter, I definitely notice that I have a hard time getting out of bed. In the summer and spring, I'm up and out. Once I take in some sunshine and take a shower..........I am ready to go, but upon waking up, I just want to lay there for another 45 minutes; that's what I think to myself.

I don't have little ones to run after so that could be the factor. I have a 15 year old, who as a teen presents a whole different set of needs and challenges for me as a mom. Also, when you are well rested, your outlook on the day is different from the moment you wake up - at least that's how it is for me. If my sleep was interrupted (hubby snoring), my morning is awful because I am cranky and tired.

I'm lucky I do pretty good in the morning. Even on very little sleep. It's the evening that I sometimes completely burn out and become useless... and it's all I can do to accomplish the bare minimum (kids fed and bathed). Some days I can be more productive in the evening, especially if I get home from work and kid pick-up on the earlier side. What a difference an hour can make.

I try to capitalize on my morning energy and do most of my chores then (on weekends) and even squeeze in some at like 6:30 am before I leave for work on weekdays.

I'm pretty exhausted all the time from my health issues, but even prior to getting sick, I remember that feeling of "waking up tired." It was mostly when my daughters were very young (under 3), but improved when they became more independent and could do basic things for themselves so that my daily load was lighter. The less I had to do, the more hours and better quality of sleep I got.
I was very addicted to caffeine and could not function without it. Even with several cups coursing through my veins, I struggled to stay awake. I fell asleep at red lights more than once before I realized that I had to take immediate action to lighten my load. My (never bit her tongue in her life) mother feels that buying pre-chopped veggies and other meal starters is a waste of money, but it enabled me to get dinner on the table early, so that dishes were done before I got too sleepy.

I wanted to say what a lot of your responders already said: When do I *NOT* feel tired??
I manage to get myself and dd out the door (mostly) on time every day, do the daycare drop-off, work my 8-hour (mental, not physical, job), do daycare pick-up, cook dinner, spend a little time reading/cleaning/other and get to bed by 9pm.
Of course I'm tired when I get up in the morning, but my roughest time is the last 2 hours of work! Yawn!
A diagnosis of hypothyroid, followed up with medication really improved my overall energy level. But, a not-quite-expected pregnancy put me right back in a nearly constant state of exhaustion!
Anyways, no great words of wisdom, I just keep on keeping on... And on those nights when I am absolutely worn out, I go to bed right after dinner and tell DH he's on his own to get everything ready for bed (dd, dog out & in, cats fed, doors locked, etc.)!
