I have seen several responses regarding work from home; some good, some not so good. TF Plano Texas said, no experience-be cautious is absolutely right. The 'legitimate website' does not list all companies, but is a good source; my company is not there, because we don’t advertise, in that manner. Our marketing executives are paid to advertise, market and open shopping accounts and do so from home. Some companies offering work from home, may ask you to purchase a training kit or membership kit; just depends on company policy.
Your best way to research a company is to call the following consumer protection organizations:
(1) BBB (2) US Chamber of Commerce (3) FTC - Federal Trade Commission (4) Local State Attorneys Office
Any and all can give you information you need to make an informed decision.
As Diane B said, make sure guarantees are in place. Example: We are the largest on-line shopping club in North America kind of like Sam’s or Costco, except no bulk buying. Every customer is a member and those who want to earn income (about 20%) do so. There is a small membership fee of $19, which has a 120 day money back guarantee, all products have at least a 60 empty bottle guarantee, some have 90 day guarantee, meaning if you are not satisfied you get your money back, no questions asked.
No one will pay you to stay home, but will pay you to work from home and YES you can do so with your children around, because you get to schedule YOUR work time around YOUR schedule. If you have an infant, schedule work when the baby is napping or asleep. If you have school age children schedule while they are in school and after they are down for the night. If there is a supportive spouse, ask for assistance as well.
I have worked from home for 14-years and absolutely love it.
