Argo or Silver Linings Playbook?

This is a pretty lightweight question, but should we see Argo or Silver Linings Playbook this weekend? My husband and I might have a chance to see a movie this weekend. I love going to the movies, but we rarely have an opportunity because of our kids' activities and family obligations. My husband also prefers to rent or get movies On Demand at home to save money, which is usually fine, but with the Oscars coming up I would like to see a movie nominated for Best Picture. We saw Lincoln over Thanksgiving weekend and we both loved it. Both Argo and SLP are showing at our preferred theater, at the same time, and are the same running length so those aren't factors. Any suggestions? This will probably be the only movie we get to see "out" for a few months. Oh, it's not strong preferences, but I'm probably leaning towards SLP and he's probably leaning towards Argo.

So What Happened?

We saw Argo and we both thought it was excellent. Plus, I found Ben Affleck awfully nice to watch. (-: I don't like beards and I've never been a huge Affleck fan, but I thought he looked really good in Argo.

We might take our 13-year-old, who studies French and is acting in a musical, to see Les Mis on Friday. We are on a roll!

For me it's about the big screen, which calls for it more? SLP will be just as engaging onDemand later, while Argo is a bigger, more visual film. See Argo in the theater. FWIW, they are both good, there is no losing either way! Enjoy :)

I haven't seen SLP but my husband really wants to see that as part of our date night on the 9th. It looks great, I'm sure we'll like it.
Argo, we saw months ago and it was REALLY good. We both loved it. It was well done, interesting, exciting, and the bonus that it's a true story. My husband remembers the crisis, I don't, but even so it was a great movie. Maybe the best we saw last year. We both walked out very impressed with Affleck's directing ability and growth as an actor.
Perhaps you could compromise and watch one On Demand and one at the theater? If you CAN watch SLP at home through On Demand, I would strongly suggest watching Argo at the theater because there's a lot more action which is always more fun to watch on the big screen. If not, (SLP is a lot newer, not sure if it's available yet for home?) then watch Argo at home because it should be available by now, and just serve his favorite movie snacks. SLP, we'll be seeing at the theater just because....but it's more of the kind of story that would be fine to watch at home on your TV screen.

I have to disagree with others. I thought SLP was very well done, and was very entertaining. The acting was superb, especially by Jennifer Lawrence.

Those are the 2 movies I happened to see and I loved them both! I probably liked SLP a bit more. I'm female. :) And I'm in love with Brad Cooper. :) My husband didn't see SLP and I doubt he would have liked it AS MUCH. Argo is definitely more of a guy's movie and I really enjoyed it as well. My husband really really liked it. So if this is kind of a concession for your husband to go out to a movie, maybe err on the side of what he'll probably like and maybe he'll go more often. As well, next time you go, the 2 choices might be a chick flick and a real guy's movie and that time you'd have to go see the guy's movie which you might not like as much as Argo. Argo isn't a total guy's movie at all. It's fascinating and suspensful and great.

I haven't seen SLP, but Argo is one of the BEST movies I've seen in a very long time. I was a kid during the Iranian hostage crisis so it was even more interesting to me. Regardless it's well done and gripping.

I'd go see Argo. SLP is sweet and charismatic. But there were some parts of the movie that just felt like bad acting and poorly done. It had a lot of heart though and I enjoyed it. I think it is a good one to rent later.

These were both very good movies! I think most men would prefer Argo and I think it will win more awards. So I would advise Argo. Although both were good!

If I could only see one movie ...... I would see Les Miserables. It was fantastic.

I have only seen Silver Linings. It was okay. there was a LOT of swearing - the F-bomb was used like a comma. I love Bradley Cooper and love looking into those blue eyes of his....however...it's not a movie I would go back and see nor is it a movie I would rent or own. The acting is good. The story is good. But for me? Not a GREAT movie.

My best friend has seen both Argo and Silver Linings. She LOVED Argo and "called it" for an award (getting nominated).

If it was me and my husband? Argo.

Have fun and enjoy your night out!!
