We have a iMac that has iPhoto, but we are looking for a program that will allow us to do more with our pictures. Does anyone know a good program we can use?

I'm a professional photographer and Aperature is the standard MAC OS catalogueing and basic editing software (basic is actually pretty fantastic, not very basic) but if you want to do advanced editing, of course Adobe Photoshop is the way to go. I'd still get Aperature for the cataloguing power then see if you want to go further. PS is an investment.

Also, PS is a very powerful program. I've been using it since its first edition nearly 20 years ago and have never been apart from it for more than a few days but there is STILL a lot it can do that I don't know about. If you make the investment in PS, it's worth taking a class. If you use it for its most basic, no-educaiton-necessary features then it's not worth the investment. You can do all of that in Aperature.

Have fun!

The professional photo editing for Iphoto is Aperture 3. You can download a free 30 day trial. I would also suggest you look at the apple store for a free class. They can really show you what you can do. I use Aperture and love it. Hope this helps

I use iPhoto for editing all the time. It is one of the best. It took me awhile to play with it and figure out all the options it has. Give it another look.

Just be careful...our iphoto went bonkers when a new program was installed and deleted and moved a bunch of photos. Back yours up before you do it ok:)

Not sure what you are looking for but I love my iPhoto on my MAC! It has the facial recognition that someone else was talking about, I can edit, crop, save to different files/folders/events/dates/places. Of course I really don't have much experience with anything else.

What exactly are you trying to do with your photos? Are you wanting to do more with editing or sharing? I've found that iPhoto has all of the basic editing features that I need and you can create books and posters with their software. When I am heavily editing a photo, I use Photoshop. If you want more sharing options, there are a lot of photo sites where you can share, such as Shutterfly, Kodak, Flickr, and many more.

Yeah - not sure exactly what you are looking for but my husband found Picasa and really like it, it has the facial recognition thing and seems to store everything externally as a form of back-up for your pictures.
