Dr. Gonino in Rowlett. I have been treated by him for this exact condition, as has a friend of mine.
It is SUCH a relief!
I am needing a physician that will treat symptoms of low thyroid & not just rely on the "blood tests". I have had a history of having hypothyroid, but when drs order the blood tests, I am always within normal limits.... on the low side of normal. Has anyone else have had these problems but have had a dr who is not afraid to prescribe thyroid medication? Also my mother has been treated with thyroid medication for 60+yrs, she is now 83.

You might try some natural thyroid assistance from Ssprouts or Whole Foods. Those might be just enough to help you out, rather than the synthetic meds. HTH
Hi C.,
I too have had the same problem with blood work. As some others have mentioned, you need that complete panel done for them to really see what is going on. My blood work will look fine, but I will feel horrible, with the full panel, it is usually my T4 uptake that is the problem. I did not have this diagnosed (the T4 problem) until I went to North Texas Family Medical, they are nurse practitioners that specialize in women's hormones. My initial visit to their practice was not for my thyroid, but they have been extremely helpful with the issue. They DO take insurance! :) The only downside to them for me is they are in Pilot Point...but they are worth the drive for how much better I feel! I started seeing them in August 2006, then stopped going to them the next summer when I got pregnant with my daughter because I "thought" my OB/GYN could watch it (BTW, I love my OB/GYN), boy was I wrong!! She took me off my medicine (cytomil) that was for my T4 uptake and increased my synthroid to 125mcg. I started back to North Texas Family in January, I am back on the cytomil and my synthroid dosage is down to 75mcg. My point being, not having the full panel screen does not give a clear picture of what is going on. Here's their website: http://www.northtexasfamilymedicinelt.com/
Best of luck to you!!
C.,
Try Dr. Margaret Christensen (www.christensencenter.com). The holistic community believes the reference ranges for thyroid tests are innapropriate and result in underdiagnosing this common problem.a
To boost my thyroid function, I used yoga and early bedtimes. Also supplements help like B-12 and vitamin C. Yoga postures that compress the throat are healing (shoulder stand, plow, any forward curl like rabbit, forehead to knee postures, etc. Early bedtime is important too - 9pm if possible.
You may also have adrenal exhaustion, resulting in secondary stress to the thyroid. As you support your adrenals, your thyroid funciton will improve. This is another commonly missed problem. Doctors don't even address or understand adrenal function as it relates to symptoms.
Good luck.
That is exactly what happened to me. I have choosed to take the natural route with products from Waiora. I take the EDN (Essential Daily Nutrients) to get all my vitamins and to balance my pH, is the world's most powerful liquid nutritional supplement ever created. It provides the high-potency nutrition your body needs to thrive, stay healthy, generate boundless energy and build a strong immune system. I also take the NCD (Natural Cellular Defense) This one is great it supports a healthy immune system, helps remove heavy metals, toxins and other substances from the body while it helps balance pH levels in the body.
100 percent natural and non-toxic. I have been feeling great and I am just putting "good" stuff in me instead of med's! I highly suggest them. http://my.waiora.com/home.php?895341
If you have any questions you can send me your contact info and we can chat.
Good luck and God Bless.
I went to the doctor many years ago (maybe 15) complaining of being tired all the time. She tested my blood and said I was borderline and that she could be criticized for giving me synthroid, but since both my mother and sister were on it she felt it was worth a try. It helped greatly. She started me on a very low dose and over the years I have had to increase it a bit. I tried lowering it this past year and blood tests showed there was no longer any question with my bloodwork, AND I became extremely tired. So, of course I went back up to my regular dose. It was obvious my doctor had made a good decision for me. Try asking your Gyn if he/she would be willing to prescribe you a low dose.
Love my thyroid doc. His name is Mitchell Sorsby in Plano.
I have the same problem and will be interested to see if there is such a doctor.
I also have had the same problem. The only doctor I've found who looks beyond the numbers is Dr. Spurlock at the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Center in Dallas. He is wonderful. The only downside is that they do not take any insurance, but you can try filing with insurance yourself afterwards.
Hi,
I had hyperthyroidism in 2001 and I was treated by Dr Howard Baum at Medical City Dallas. He is very nice, personable, and even remembered what I did for work when I went for my 1 year checkup!

Hi C.,
I've had similar experiences myself. For years blood tests wouldn't pick anything up, I was always in normal range. I had all the symptoms listed for low thyroid. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs worked to help relieve the symptoms and get me back on track.

Hi there,
I've got the same issue however- was finally given the complete panel of thyroid blood tests by a specialized center called the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center of Dallas. Nearly all reg. Dr's do only one or two of the most likely blood tests for thyroid and many people go untreated because they test normal on those average and most used tests whereas if all are done then something shows up. You might be able to request a COMPLETE panel of testing if it's not been done but you may also have to pay for the extra testing that isn't the normal here in our health care systems. The good news with it is that you might very well catch something you wouldn't otherwise.
I had no idea mine was low but I should have since my mom too has hypothyroidism and so does practically every other woman on that side I'm related to. I'm on a low dose and it makes a huge difference in my ability to think clearly and just stay "with it" each day. It only works right though if you take it as you're supposed to so if you are prescribed it be sure to not take it with food. I'm sure you'd do it right since you're already informed.
Something else to consider is that the place I mentioned is extremely EXPENSIVE and they like to charge for EVERYTHING as much as they can and most insurance doesn't cover them. An alternative that I use now is Gonino Wellness Group located in Rockwall-Heath Texas.
try www.goninowellnessgroup.com to check it out. Really qualified drs who listen to you and will do what you ask becaues they want to get to the bottom of whatever problem you have and not just treat symptoms. It's a HOLISTIC place that does advocate natural healing and herbal supplements along with traditional types of medicinal treatment when warranted. I highly recommend it and they DO take insurance and are average in price. Supplements recommended aren't usually covered by insurance but the supplements WORK and are fantastic in what they can accomplish. I have been amazed by some of the ones I've allowed myself to buy and haven't regretted it a bit.
Blessings to you!
