After my Dr listened to my heart she did an EKG on me, Right now I have to wear a heart monitor in a holster for 24 hours and push a button everytime I get dizzy. Its kind of hard for me to think of doing my normal stuff wearing it. Its not huge but you can notice I'm wearing it.. Any suggestions how to deal with something like this? I already know my kids will notice it when they get home. the dr said i need to take meds to slow my heart down but i'm scared because she added in i need liver biospy :( . I'm more looking for advice on how to put a good face on things for my family and not freak out too much myself over this

editing in right now I'm not on any meds and she said Biopsy after 2 liver panel tests came back badly.. Just say they tested the blood to see if I had hepatitis bad results and asked me if i was a drinker which i don't.. there is a genetic disorder in my family that causes too much iron to build up in the organs causing failure . My children are 14,12,9 and 7

What can I do next?

I've done the heart monitor thing a few times. I have always had a very fast heart beat. Ultimately, they discovered it was my thyroid - being hyperthyroid gives you a fast heartbeat so have your thyroid levels checked. Also I agree with the other poster about the liver profile. I was put on Digoxin to keep my heartbeat down and they have to keep an eye on how much it is building up in your liver. Doesn't mean anything is wrong with your liver, it's just a precaution they take. Good luck!

I had to wear a monitor for 24hrs as well and my kids where about 9 and 7 at the time. They asked me why I had to wear it and I told them the Dr. was watching how my heart was beating. My kids are very smart because I have alot of health problems for being 35. I also have a brain condition that my now 11 year old can not only pronounce, but tell you what it is. I have always been honest with my kids because I was a stay at home mom and always alone with them. So that way if they had to call 911 they could tell them what is wrong with me and actually 1 time they did have to call 911 for me cause I got really dizzy after using the washroom and fell down 5 steps and passed out. So my son called them and then my mom, of course my mom beat the ambulance. But since your 2 are older it is best to tell them and be honest in case something happens at home and there is no other adult at home and god forbid they would have to call 911 for you. I will be praying for you and your family. God Bless.

I have worn them a couple of times. I had to wear them for 10 days at a time. I told my kids the dr wanted to make sure my heart was ok. After the first monitor i was put on two meds. I take Cardizem and Rythmol now. (along with a few others not for the heart)

I think 24 hours will be ok. It was difficult to sleep, but i am a light sleeper. Your four are abour my four kids age :) I would be honest with them to a point. I would just tell them that they are checking to see if you need meds. Tell them that the meds will help your heart. Mine know that mom has a few issues that meds help. They know that i am not as healthy as the average mom. They seem to be ok with it. We talk all of the time and i try to answer their questions the best i can without upsetting them.

I wish you lots of luck. Feel free to email me if you have any questions :)

I've had to wear one of those a couple of times (also to help diagnose dizziness). Yes they are uncomfortable, but it's only 24 hours. Just be honest with your kids and tell them what it is. They will pick up on your anxiety so try to remain calm and matter-of-fact about it. I know it's hard - hang in there!

I had to wear one twice in my early twenties because of heart palpitations and a irregular heart beat. The cardiologist said I had MVP or Mitral Valve Prolapse. I don't have to take meds yet but I do need to get checked up and take antibiotics before dentists and surgeries. I remember going to the bank that day with this big heart monitor strapped to my chest with wires hanging out my shirt. The first thing I said was it's not a bomb! Everyone can relax. LOL
Just try to remain positive and find the humor in all situations. Count your blessings and don't worry. Focus on relaxing and erasing stress. I was working night shift with a a-hole boss during the time I had palpitations and I switched to dayshift and they went away.

You sure she said liver BIOPSY instead of live profile? A lot of the meds can potentially cause liver damage and so they do a blood draw for a liver profile regularly to monitor and make sure you are within normal limits. My dad has to have one frequently for a similar med to slow his heart because he has chronic a-fib (he is only 53). It would really surprise me if they want to do a liver biopsy. Call and get clarification. Depending on how old your kids are, tell them the doctor gave you this machine to check how fast your heart is going because it has been racing super fast like when they get excited. It just tells the doctor how super fast you can get yours going. I wore an event monitor for a WEEK and got no answers when I was 23 so good luck!
