Anyone Use a Pedometer?

Hello! I just purchased a pedometer, as directed by the "I Can Make You Thin" tv show. Apparently, I'm not using it correctly. The slightest little movement, it goes up 4-5 steps, but then when I'm walking, it doesn't always go up. Is there a good place to wear a pedometer? Unfortunately, when I wear it next to my stomach, it "jiggles" a little too much and I get an unaccurate reading. When I wear it next to my hip, it doesn't always register. *sigh* Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

A.,

I had one for a long time and agree that the calibration is the most important part. I put mine on a string that I would put around my waist but only put through the back and side belt loops. That way I could get a little sag action to get it below my stomach enough that the extra motion wasn't a big deal. I also borrowed on e of those wheely things that they use to measure distances and measured my favorite walking path, just to make sure that I had calibrated correctly. You could do the same with your car and measure an exact half mile and then walk it to see if you are calibrating right. You walk 1/2 mile from home and check then reset and walk the 1/2 mile back home and double check. Good luck walking. Just getting started is half the battle.

Hi A.! Yes, I agree with her. I have tried different pedometers and unfortunately the ones that are most expensive are the ones that are selective for your steps. Be sure to do the stride calibration! The default was set too high and I was actually taking more steps than it said.

I've worn & used several different pedometers. The good ones have an actual adjuster on then for your stride length. There should be instructions included for determining your stride length. Because I'm not thin, my stomach sometimes gets in the way. I've found the best place to wear it is on the top of my pants above the center of my pocket (or on my pocket if the opening is parallel with the top of the pants). If I've worn a skirt or dress, I've actually worn it on my underwear - just be careful to remove it before going to the bathroom so it doesn't fling across the room.

You could try and put it on your non dominant leg(like on your sock area) then multiply your steps by 2 :)
