Hello moms! We just bought my 5 year old a Bearded Dragon for his birthday. I have ALWAYS wanted one so I was thrilled when he fell in love with them at the pet store. So now we have a baby, he is about 1 1/2 months old, his name is Hot Rod. All I do is worry about this thing!!! We have EVERYTHING a Beardie needs but I do is worry he isn't getting enought water, or isn't warm enough. Im just looking for maybe someone who has one that I can ask questions and talk to about it? A Beardie support group if you will...lol. Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Our beardie is doing really good, I don't really have any spicific quetions just wondering who has one if they have any good advice for them. We got him to eat greens yesterday so that makes me happy. Means he is getting more water threw those!! Thanks again everyone!!!

Never had a bearded dragon, but we had a lizard.

Please let me warn you about this one important thing, SY. Reptiles can carry salmonella. My kindergartner got salmonella while we had that lizard. We also went to a Wendy's and to a children's hospital right before he came down with it, and the health department had to investigate both of them. However, I did not know about the link between reptiles and salmonella, and the health department didn't ask me if I had reptiles and I didn't think to mention it. My child was sick for over 6 months because of it - salmonella is awful. Not as scary as ecoli, but still pretty darn scary.

Anyway, it's hard to find out the culprit of these food-bourne diseases by the time the health department starts their inquiries - usually the problem is gone by then (though they will certainly dig deeper for ecoli and if people are dying.) We don't know what caused it, really, and they don't think it was from my house because we hadn't been home eating much at the time.

So take precautions with your family for this, and find an exotic pet vet who you can talk to about it.

Good luck,
Dawn

There is a great reptile store on Ulmerton Road just north of Belcher. They have all kinds of reptiles and they are a great place to go and ask questions. There is also a reptile show coming up in June at the Florida State Fairgrounds and it is also a good place to go and talk to breaders and other reptile experts.

My neighbors have one, Yoshi. I think it's been 3-5 years already. I haven't seen him in awhile.

I used to have one, we found him in a gutter on the side of the road, so he was a rescue beardie. I loved that lizard, I still get sad when I think about him. I bought one to replace him that was a totally nightmare, turned out it was some sort of dwarf one that never grew and bit everyone that tried to hold it. The big one we used to let run around the house like a dog. As long as yours is alert and active its fine, its kind of like a baby, if its eating and pooling and peeing, its fine.
