Anyone Know Where I Can Find 4 Yr Old Wide Shoes?

Hi moms,
My daughter is almost 4 and she is on the border of needing wide shoes so I feel like it would be good to get her wides. My issue is that I can't find them reasonably priced except Payless but they dont have a good selection. I need casual and dress. I do not want to buy Stride Rite because they are too expensive and I can't afford to spend so much when she changes so often. Any other ideas moms?

What can I do next?

Stride Rite has outlet malls everywhere and the shoes there are much cheaper. Also, I get my son's shoes on ebay every once in a while. You can find GREAT deals on there. I find barely used Stride Rite and New Balance for 1/4 of the retail price, sometimes less!

My 4 year old son needs wide as well. The 2 brands I have found that have them is New Balance and Stride Rite,I lie Stride Rite.I can not afford them at full price either.I usually go to Marshall's first and if I don't find anything there I go to the Stride Rite store at the Independence center and get a pair that's on clearance.Every once in a while I find them at Cargo Largo.Good luck!

We personally don't have this issue with shoes, thnakfully, since we have so many clothing issues. But, a friend of mine does and goes to the Legends to the Stride rite outlet. But, I believe she told me that Target also carries a wide shoe brand...so, maybe check that out too. I noticed online that they seem to have shoes on sale this week too. Good luck.

My son has really wide feet and the two brands recommended to me were Stride Rite and New Balance. Maybe you could find some New Balance online that are less expensive? You could have her measured for that brand in a store so you know the right size to order.

You can try the previously suggested places. You can get them at Famous Footwear, too. If they don't have them in the store, you can get your daughter fitted there and have them shipped to you for free. And if you get the KC Star, the coupon section on Sundays (about every other week) will have a 20% off your entire purchase coupon. If you use that in combination with their buy one get one half off deal, you can get 2 pr of shoes for really cheap! Good luck!!

Another vote for the Stride Rite outlet! If you're not too picky about style, you can find some good stuff in the "bargain bin" area of the outlet - we got some nice SR tennies for DD for $12. They're kinda funky, but that's great because DH can easily tell which shoes are "go play in the mud" shoes and which are the "good" tennis shoes.

I know that Stride Rite shoes are horribly expensive but they really are the best when it comes to fitting wide feet. Try going to Dillards at the Oak Park Mall when they have a sale on. You can get some steals, like Stride Rite's for $10, if you go regularly. I think they just finished up the summer sale so you'll probably need to wait until they start clearing out the winter stuff but it's definitely worth checking them out.

Go to Stride Rite and get her size and then buy them second hand on ebay...that's what I did until she outgrew the Stride Rite...now I'm at the cunundrum that she is a 13W and I can't find anything! It's infuritating! I sure am anxious to see what others have to say!

BTW- make sure you get on the Stride Ride mailing/email list because they will send you coupons and pre-sale discount info...don't know if it also applies to the discount store in Legends but every nickle helps, eh?

Hi! You can either place a Wanted add in the Baby section of Craigslist to see if anyone is ready to sell their used shoes. Or I have been going to consigment sales this time of year and they almost always have nice barely worn shoes that are wide. I have to buy my daughter wide as well. :) That is what I do since I cannot find them at a decent price new anywhere as well.

With 8 kids we had most of our money spent on shoes since some had EXTRA wide feet, not just a little wide that you can fit a size up but like a D or E size. Then some had EXTRA narrow and had to have the triple A's, etc. We had to go to Stride Rite. I see you got advice on a few other places and the outlet by the Legends but I would advise if you truly have wide feet to get the right shoes or you will have problems with the feet later and it's just worth it. What we did was get a more expensive daily shoe and for dress on Sunday we got a less expensive one as they didn't wear them that much but be sure they fit right or you can get cramps in your feet and other problems from the shoes being too tight. My kids all wear regular shoes more or less now except one who still has a very wide. So they may get more narrow as they grow up.

New Balance has wide shoes. That worked for my son. I have also sometimes just bought the next 1/2 size shoe up when the shoes were not wide and that worked too.

Try Sears. I'm pretty sure they have wide width in there kids shoes. And if they don't have something in stock you can order it though the catalog. I buy all my DS shoes here because of the KidVantage program. If LO shoes become damage or fall apart before they outgrow them, Sears will replace them for free. I bought one pair of $15 dollor sneakers and took them back when the velcro started coming off. They replace them with a more expensive pair because they didn't have the ones I had bought.

Have you tried Sketchers shoes? They run wider than other shoes. I was greatful once I found that out! They worked great for my daghter who has both wide feet and a high instep. I use to buy the $50 shoes until then......well I am back at high dollar shoes now that she`s almost12 and wears size 8 in womans!!!! New balance is the only shoe that fits her well...they run a little wider too. For dress shoes, try walmart and get wide....or I have gotten the next size up too. Good luck....you`ll need it for the search of a shoe that FITS! LOL! :-)

I think shoes are the only piece of clothing that you really want to get a good fit. We are still buying wide width stride rite shoes and my kids are 5 & almost 7. Sometimes I have seen Stride Rite brand at some of the discount places like Marshalls. You can also find some of the wide widths in the athletic shoe brands like Nike. I found that how fast my kids feet grew varied by growth spurts. I went through over a year with both of them (when they were about 4) where their shoe sizes did not change. However, they were hard on shoes and wore them out so I needed to get shoes regardless.

Of course maybe some of the wide width parents should get together. I would try to freecycle my outgrown shoes and it was rare that I would have any takers.

B.,

Good Luck with the wide shoes cheap. I have the same issue with my 2 year old. He has to have wide and no one ever has his size. I have occassionally found some Sketchers in wides at Shoe Carnaval. But again there's never a huge selection. I usually have to get his at Stride Rite. However, I watch for the big sales or clearance because then they are very reasonable. I'm not sure where you live but there is also a Stride Rite outlet at The Legands in KC, KS and they almost always have good prices. It's worth the drive.

I think Linda B nailed it! Go to Stride Rite, have her professionally measured, & then shop 2ndhand on Ebay or Craigslist. My only concern with 2ndhand for shoes is that everybody "wears" theirs differently. Both my sons were flat-footed & just beat the heck out of the insoles/arch.

As for brand, both my sons wore Stride Rite. I used the outlet.

Stride Rite has them. You can also check ebay. I have found some very good deals there on new shoes that are wide. Watch for Stride Rite's semi-annual sale & buy 2-3 sizes. Then, they are around $20.00 each pair.

I have the same problem. I have 6 year old triplets. 2 of the 3 wear wide shoes. I always look for deals. They are few & far between. However, if you do not get proper fitting shoes now, you could ruin their feet & cause many more future problems. I just try to get only 2 kinds (1 tennis shoe & 1 dress shoe each season.)

Kohl's usually carries 1 style of each in wide as does Shoe Carnival or Supermarket of shoes. Good luck.

Famous footwear carries New Balance shoes that come in wides. They are good tennis shoes - a little more expensive than payless, but not bad. And usually they have a buy one get one half off like payless!

Good Morning B., I am not sure what they have in Lees Summit, do you have a Famous Footwear or Burlington's Coat Factory? They both have affordable kids shoes.

When our sons were small there was only One payless shoe store in Wichita that carried wide shoes for kids. Bummer!!
I get our gr kids shoes maybe twice a year at Wal-Mart, they seem to last and not bad prices.

God Bless

My daughter also had wide feet at a young age. I am thinking I bought @ Sear's. Also Stride Rite probably has wides and also I think Payless has wides. Good luck!

I don't know where you live, but I go to the stride rite outlet in Branson, MO. My son has EXTRA wide feet and the outlet always has lots of wides and extra wides (some medium too, but not in all styles). Sign up online and you'll get notifications of sales -- buy one, get one half price, etc. I usually pay about $20 to $25/pair this way. Also, if you buy a leather shoe upper instead of synthetic, it will stetch a bit and be more comfortable for your child.

Good luck!

I go to the Stride Rite outlet at the Legends for my 2 year old sons wide shoes. Most of their shoes range from $20-$30, which is better than the $50-$60 they sell for in the regular store. It's a little bit of a drive for us, but it's a fun place to visit every now and then, and definitely worth it for him to have good shoes that fit him correctly. The store is kind of right in the middle of the whole strip, next to the GAP outlet.

I think pretty much everyone nailed it with Stride Rite, just what you wanted to hear right!? LOL! The outlet is pretty good. I also had luck just trying shoes on my daughter in EVERY store we happened to go into. I found a couple pairs at Target and GAP that fit, you just have to look around. Ones that have elastic on the top vs. a strap or laces worked better. I also managed to find a pair of Rocket Doggs that fit her pretty well and I got those at Payless. It is tricky, though, good luck!
