Anyone Know What This Is?

I'm not sure what's going on with me but it's scaring me. Usually I'm pretty even keel & quite happy & content. However, lately, one minute I'm fine, the next I feel like one little thing will make me jump out of my skin because I feel so irritable, the next, I'm weapy, feel worthless and I'm crying. It's like PMS on steroids but I'm not PMSing. I'm in my early 30's so I'm too young to be going into Menopause, right? Has anyone gone through this and if so, what was it & how did you treat it?

What can I do next?

I feel for you...really. I have been struggling with mood swings ever since my first child...over 5 years ago at age 34.

I think 'peri-menopause'(which can start in the mid-30's) and birthcontrol products contributed to my problems. I was on Depo Prevera, then IUD Mirena (which fell out within 3 years) then started Seasonale (the 3 month pill)but only took it for 2 months. The breaking point was while I was on the Seasonale I had a SEVERE mood outburst and had extreme suicidal thoughts. Obviously I didn't act on it but it was very strong and scary. (By the way my vision changed too. Seriously. I needed glasses when I had never worn them before. Since I stopped the pill I no longer need to wear glasses...my point is sometimes medication can have side effects you'd never imagine.)

Well I stopped taking any BC in November and feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! I still have some moodiness but it is not as extreme.

Around the same time I stopped the BC pill, I started taking thyroid medicine...Armour Thyroid...which is a natural version.

I suspect your moodiness is hormonally related. But it is best to talk to a doctor. I warn you, they'll probably suggest an anti-depressant. If you are not up for that sort of therapy, I suggest going to a DO/Homeopathic/Naturalpathic doctor.
I live in the Cleveland area and just started seeing someone here (which is why I started the thyroid med.) My blood work came back 'sub-clinical hypothyroidism' which is not normally medicated by mainstream doctors. But my doctor said that low thyroid contributes to a lot of problems.

Check out the book "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause: Balance your Hormones Naturally" by Nisha Jackson. I think it might provide some help.

Best Wishes!

I would also get checked for thyroid and diabetes. I am diabetic, and when my blood sugars are all over the place, it can do that. Lows make you weepy and highs make you grumpy and tired. I would go in for a physical.

I started Yaz after taking Yasmin for a few years this past August. Since then, I've had many of the severe symptoms, including those you described and didn't even know it. If you are on a BC pill, that might be the reason. Good luck!

Are you taking Birth Control? I have been going through the very same thing lately only add thinning hair on top of it. I thought it was stress and went to DR for meds after 5 weeks the meds should have been working pretty well but I didnt feel as well as I thought I should and my hair was still thinning. The DR checked my thyroid and other things that could cause thinning hair but everything was normal he told me it was stress and I needed counceling. I didnt like that response and the only other med I was taking was Birth Control so I googled the side effects and found all of my problems could be because of it so I stopped taking it and started taking vitamins (mainly to help my hair). Within three to four days I was feeling alittle better, it has been a month and I am feeling quite a bit better I almost think I could stop the stress meds but will wait a little longer to decide on that. I checked with my GYNs office and they told me it sounded like a hormone issue and my body should regulate itself though it could take 6 mo or more. I hated those feelings and couldnt figure out why I was like that I never was before. I feel like a huge weight is being lifted off and it keeps getting lighter. Good Luck. Maybe check with your OB/GYN, I would do that before going to the family DR if its hormones they can help you more.

Hi G.,

Menopause can start this young, however, you can also have a chemical depression. It really would not hurt to talk to your doctor about this.

I personally suffer from depression and without my medicine I feel like I am PMS-ing daily. With my meds I feel like a totally different woman.

Good luck!

Are you pregnant? I get like that in the beginning of my pregnancy. I believe menopause can hit at any age, but it's rare for it to happen so early.
