When I lived there, I used Dr. Randall Brown, too. He is so great and knows what he's talking about. He answered any question I asked him. Hope this helps!
For women that have problems with their cycles? The doctor seems to think I am dealing with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome that makes me insulin resistant and sent me for a pelvic ultrasound but the radiologist said my ovaries do not look polycystic. I have been taking prometrium to regulate me for the last 3 yrs. but it is not working anymore. Now I am not having cycles at all. I have seen an endocronologist to and he said there was nothing wrong with me. My primary care doctor said there was nothing wrong with me. I took glucophage but had an allergic reaction to it and had to stop taking it. I had my tubes tied so I do not need the OB part. She is really pushing birth control pills and I do not want to take them. I have taken them several different times and I have always had breakthrough bleeding among other issues. Also the pill she is wanting me to take cost almost $60.00 amonth! I feel as if she does not know what to do to help me anymore. I was thinking about getting a second opinion. I really like the doctor I am seeing but I just think she might not be able to help me anymore. She is wanting me to take the pill for 6 months but what will happen when I quit. I think this is just a temp. solution to my problem. I am not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use Dr. Lisa Gautreau. I was having major issues with my cycle - I was soaking through my clothes every hour or so, cramping so hard I couldn't stand up straight, and my periods were coming every two weeks. I told her on the first visit that I was not interested in using bcp's to treat it - I am convinced that almost two decades of hormone-based contraceptives from the Pill to Depo-Provera to the patch to the Nuva ring - are part of what caused the problem in the first place. Unlike a previous doctor, she didn't try to talk me into trying something that I was not interested in, she simply listened to what I had to say, then laid out for me what my other options were. I had an endometrial oblation, with wonderful results.
I see Dr. Randall Brown at Womans Hospital. He is wonderful. My whole family sees him. He will do his very best to help you and if he can't he will find a specialist who can. He has done wonders for the problems that have gone on in my family.
I dont know how close you are to Jasper but I see Dr. Woodrow Herring. Hes at Family Heath Associates. I can tell you how to get there. I use him for everything GYN, OB, Pediatrician, Family. All of it. I love him. I also have PCOS. Its a syndrom which means that you can suffer from all,or one of the symptoms. My ovaries dont look polycystic either, But I suffer from the insulin intolerence, facial hair, Wieght gain, and some cycle issues. I think a second oppinion is a good idea. There may be something she just hasnt thought of. Good luck.
It sounds like you really do need to find a good doc!! If you lived in the Birmingham area I could recommend a few to you. I hope you find the help you need!!
Maggis(Margaret Sommerrall) is wonderful. I recommend her to my patients that want GYN only. Janet Davis is also wonderful but her practice might be full. mBoth are at Brookwood;
I've had trouble with cramps, breakthrough bleeding, etc, and I also tried many different birth control pills. The best solution I have found is to get the Mirena IUD. I've had it for almost a year now, and I have NO periods. If I do have any type of a period, it's minor spotting, and I haven't even had that in a few months. No cramps, no bleeding, it's wonderful! I have high blood pressure, so I was taken off the pill, and the IUD was my answer! They last for 5 years, or sooner if you want it removed. I see Dr. Lisa Gautreau at the Women's Clinic in the Woman's Hospital Physician's Tower, on the 6th floor, directly to your right off the elevator. She's really nice, probably in her mid to late 30's.
There is a wonderful Dr. in Lafayette. It is about 1 hr. from Baton Rouge. It would be a drive but worth it. I was diagnosed with polycystic by Dr. Daniel Bourque after I was misdiagnosed by another Dr. My other Dr. told me that there was nothing wrong with me and didn't know why I wasn't getting pg. I went to Dr. Bourque and had bloodwork and ultrasound to confirm my diagnoses. I also followed the SouthBeach diet to reduce my carbs therefore decreasing my insulin resistance. The diet along with glucophage made a huge difference in my symptoms. 3 months after my med and diet change I became pg. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Bourque. I know that God is the reason I have 3 beautiful children but I also thank Dr. Bourque.
C., I'm not from your area, but I too, have been diagnosed with PCOS. The only way to really tell if you have it, so I'm told, is with a blood test for FSH and LH hormone. There is a website that will give you much info about PCOS. It's www.soulcysters.com. I found in the archives an article about getting your hormones regulated to get pregnant and I started taking the supplements suggested. It worked wonders for me!! I wasn't trying for a pregnancy! I just figured that if the hormones were good for pregnancy they had to be good period! You can also try a compounding pharmacy. They may be able to direct you to an OB-GYN who uses natural hormones to help you instead of the pill! Hopefully you'll find the help you need there! God Bless You!
Try Dr. Gary Mills. He is an OB/GYN and he is great! He has an office in Hixson and one at Erlanger.
Hi C.
Sorry to hear about what you are going though.
After I got my tubes tied I became irregular and was like that for 5yrs with the heavy bleeding and too many clots. I couldn't take it any more. My doctor and I tried many things that didn't work at first then I came to the conclusion that I would just end it all and had a hysterectomy 2 yrs ago. My doctor was and still is Dr. Steven Feigley at the Womens Hospital. He is a very good doctor. At least I think so.
