Jiffy Frosting Mix!!!!! LOL! just add water. My MIL has used it forever for sugar cookies and for the last 10yrs so have I. It sets up well, not too hard, but hard enough. We think it's just perfect! and EASY!
I'm going to make cookie pops this weekend and need a great frosting recipe. I don't want to use royal frosting because I think it's too hard for the sugar cookies. I've tried so many, but have never had great luck. I want them to look nice since they are being given as gifts. Anyone have a tried and true recipe? Thanks!
Thanks for all the suggestions! Can't wait to try these this weekend.

Can you dip them in chocolate or a lemon or orange glaze?

I make a butter cream or use my aunt's cake frosting (it's similar to a royal ... but isn't royal).
Butter Cream:
1 cup butter
1 lb (4 cups) powdered sugar (the recipe I have says sifted but I never do)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
Milk
Mix everything together (carefully with the powdered sugar or you will have a HUGE mess. Add milk as needed until the consistency is as you like it. It can be tinted and sets really nicely but stays soft (unless you refrigerate it, then it gets harder). This is my favorite icing.
I use Cookie Crazie's glaze icing. It's like royal icing in that you can pipe/fill/color with it, and it sets up so it's not sticky or messy like cake frosting. The nice thing about it is that when you bite into it tho, it's softer and much tastier (I think) than the royal icing.
Here's a link to her recipie:
We use Jiffy as well. We have tried dozens of recipies over the years, but this one, used my my grandma, my mom, and myself, just works the best.
I make the most simple buttercream frosting there is...and it's not really even true butter cream.
5 T. margarine
3 c. powdered sugar
milk for consistency desired (1-3 T depending on how thick or thin you want it)
Honestly, everyone LOVES this frosting and asks me how I make it, like it's something exotic. I think the absence of any flavoring gives it a unique taste, because it's definitely not vanilla. When I want flavoring, I'll use an extract...cut back a bit on the milk, and add extract of choice (lemon, orange, peppermint, etc.)
I use white chocolate chips 2 cups mixed with 2 tbsp of Crisco. Melt in microwave. Divide into little cups, color. Hardens well
EASIEST EVER and TASTES GREAT.
Just found it and used it this week. From Martha Stewart.
1 1/2 c powdered sugar
4 Tablespoons milk OR water OR lemon juice
Add more liquid and/or powdered sugar until consistency is right.
I used milk. It was so easy and stayed soft and my 3 yr old could use it easily. And people loved the taste.
