Anyone Have a Cure for Diaper Rash

My 7 month old gets a d-rash at least once a month. I am maticulous about cleaning her and letting her dry out before applying Desitan and Caldesine powder. I change her every hour- and immediately after a BM. At Bath time I only use Aveeno Baby. When I first had her I used Bourdeaus Butt Paste. That worked well until about 4 months. Then she had a diaper rash and that just didn't cut it.

I hate seeing her in pain and wish there was a miracle cure.
Thanks Mommys.

Neosporion has worked well for us.

You would be amazed at what breast milk can do(if you have any handy). I have not use on her butt(my husband thought it was weird for even put a bit on her face), but I did for 2 little cuts that she give herself with her nails. They healed up in a day.

I have found that triple paste brand diaper rash cream works the best. It is expensive but worth it! You can find it at CVS and Target.

I have been through the diaper rash blues. My daughter had an almost never-ending diaper rash for months. I decided to take her to see a ND (doctor of naturopathy) because I had a hunch that it had something to do with a food allergy.
Before that I had tried everything and her pediatrician had her on many different prescriptions, but nothing worked long term. I just couldn't sit by and watch her poor bum suffer anymore, so that's when I decided to take her to the ND.
For now she is on a wheat free, dairy free, soy free diet because those are the biggest food allergies to children. Since then she has gotten soooo much better. She doesn't have a diaper rash anymore and her skin in general looks much better (she also had some spots of eczema).
Another thing that it might be is a yeast infection. You can get either athlete's foot cream or jock itch cream and put a little of that on once or twice a day and see if that helps.
My last suggestion is cloth diapers, if you aren't already using them. Believe it or not, babies in disposable diapers are 70% more likely to have diaper rashes. It's because disposables are loaded with chemicals and a lot of babies are allergic to them or the materials in them.

A&D zinc oxcide is the only thing that works for my son. The regular A&D doesn't do it but the one in the blue package with zinc added works amazing! Sometimes I switch every other change with Desitin and it clears up quick. My peidi also said to put a little neosporin+pain on ever other change if the rash was really bad and he was in pain.

No wipes, just washclothes.
Air dry...play around in the bathroom.
Thick, thick coat of vaseline or "triple paste". (A bit expensive, but recommended by our pediatrician and really worked.)

It could be related to food...I would imagine she might be eating some cereals, veggies and fruits. Check with your dr. about that.

Both my two had terrible diaper rashes as well. They've got my English skin and they're sensitive! I am always on the prowl for a cream that has the highest percentage of zinc oxide in it. I prefer all-natural and homeopathic remedies, but honestly, plain old Desitin, at 40% zinc oxide works best for us. I slather it on by the handful!

When the rashes get really bad (bleeding, raw skin), I just pick up all of the rugs and let them run naked. Fortunately we have wood floors! It's a pain to clean up after, but that skin-air contact seems to be a miracle, and it's even better if you can expose the rash a little to the sun (obviously you don't want a sunburn, so keep it short!).

When mine were as young as your daughter, I could sometimes do the naked time in a pack-n-play, which helps with the clean-up, and there will be cleaning up; they seem to just wait for a chance to pee without a diaper on!

Hope it clears up. It's so hard to see your little one hurting.

Hi D.,
My six have had the occasional really bad diaper rash, though mostly they didn't get too many. But when it was really bad and so painful for them, my pediatricin told me to actually use the Tuck's hemorhoid cream that numbs it. It's the only thing that gave them any relief. I also would put a thick layer of Vaseline over that as a barrier against the wetness. And I didn't use any of the diaper wipes, even the ones for sensitive skin -- instead I would just use a washcloth with only water on it. Good luck -- it's so hard to see your children in pain.
