Anyone Had Essure Procedure?

I considered it too, but decided to go for the tubal instead because I am concerned about developing a metal allergy. I already have several annoying food and environmental allergies and I'd hate to have to stop wearing jewelry on top of everything else! I'm just waiting for hubby to get some vacation time to do the tubal procedure - my insurance wouldn't do it when I gave birth - so annoying!

I had the procedure done about 3 years ago. It is a super easy procedure. You do need to be knocked out but it took only about 45 minutes to implant the springs. We then waited about 3 months and I went back to the lab and ran a dye test to be sure that the tubes had filled in and it was successful. Recovery time was about a day of sitting on the couch. It is not reversable so that is something to consider. Best of luck

I was also considering this procedure a few months ago. My doctor also recommends this procedure versus tubal ligation, but she did say that most of her patients need to go on the Pill after the procedure to control their periods. I have already been on the Pill for many years, so it didn't make sense for me to have the procedure done as well. She also said that the Pill helps women get through menopause without many side effects.

Don't know if this helps or not, but for me the decision was not to have the Essure procedure done.

I had never heard of this procedure before your entry. Based on the first response you got I wouldn't want to be on birth control, it would defeat the purpose of having the procedure done in the first place. However, I would still make an appointment with my doctor to get all the facts first. Thank you for opening up another option to my own birth control.

I have actually NEVER heard of a good response to having the Essure procedure... probably b/c those with bad experiences are the ones writing!! I have heard lots of negatives - pain, dislocation of the implant, the coil coming through the fallopian tube - rejection of the coil - you have to go back in after several months to have the dye injected to see if the procedure took. Essentially for those not familiar - Essure is an in-office method of female sterlization. Small coils are inserted into the fallopian tubes which then cause the body to produce scar tissue to block the tubes... it takes months for the scar tissue to form. This is a method that has been used in other countries for much longer than here in the US.

Even with surgical tubal ligation - it is possible to have heavy menstrual cycles (post tubal ligation syndrome)... it is less invasive to do the Essure - I would do more research before considering this procedure... Good luck!
