My kids won't really want SS either except for Elmo.
I don't like Peppa Pig. It annoys me that each animal makes 'their' sound after each sentence.
it's just about the only show on PBS that my kids won't watch. The only part they will watch is "Elmo's World." It kinda makes me sad because SS was such a part of my childhood, and to this day I remember the words to almost every Joe Raposo song. They'll watch some of the songs with me if I find them on YouTube, but that's about it.
Any other hated shows? My kids also won't watch "Angelina Ballerina" as they say it's too boring...and I agree with that!

My son, now 8, LOVES to bash Elmo every chance he gets. And I love reminding him that Elmo was on his first birthday cake! (It gets so fun as they get older--we get to hear about what is "uncool".)
He has NO LOVE for SS. He knows Elmo and Cookie Monster and it stops there
Love "Peppa Pig!" Those gunts crack us up all the time. Some of the British terms throw me off. A flashlight is a TORCH? Now the four year old aks for a TORCH when he wants a flashlight.
Yes!
My four year old HATES it. Elmo especially. If he falls asleep with Sprout on...and then wakes up in the middle of the night and sees Elmo's world on, he will wake us up to change it.
.
Alex just turned 4 and has always been a Sesame Street kid, loves it...we have a ton of Sesame Street dvds and they have it on netflix streaming. He has all of the sesame street "guys" in stuffed animal form. He insisted on having an Abbie Cadabby birthday party for his 4th Birthday. He also likes the Muppet Show, Blues Clues, Barney and the Wiggles, he is just so so when it comes to Veggie Tales and not at all interested in shows themed for older kids like Arthur or Martha Speaks...oh and he loves Word World and Super Why.
He has only been slightly interested in Dora and Diego. But he also still loves his Baby Songs dvds and also the Baby Einstien dvds for the music and repetition.
I think all kids are just different.
My daughter is 5 now and she never cared for Sesame Street. She would never even sit still to watch Elmo's World. My neice, however, is mesmerized by everything Elmo and Sesame Street. My daughter's favorite show was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She doesn't watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse anymore now. Right now her favorite shows are Phineas & Ferb and Olivia. She would probably watch more if we let her but we really try to limit her tv time. I wish that the good cartoons were still on but it's impossible to find Bugs Bunny on tv these days.
Mine did!
He said it was too short/ hectic (meaning that they jump from topic to topic every few minutes) once he got verbal enough. ANY of the shows that are only 5-15 minutes in duration before they "switch" to a monty pythod style "and now for something completely different" he absolutely hated. Abhorred.
It was one of the early signs of him being ADHD. ADHD toddlers have "ungodly" concentration compared to other neurotypical toddlers. They can easily focus for 1-2 hours on something interesting to them, as opposed to a neurotypical toddler who can't pay attention for more than a few minutes at a time.
His absolute favorites as a toddler were Thomas the Train & Finding Nemo (we watched Nemo 3 or 4 days a week for YEARS).
Sesame Street was such a staple for my early years of child-raising. Up until about 3 years ago, I used it for my daycare kids (we do 1 show a day). But with this current group of kids, they just don't engage with SS.
This has been a "riddle me this" thought for a couple of years now. How has the show changed & what's missing to pique the interest of today's children? How can the show change/improve to regain it's audience?
It has had such an awesome impact on early education.....social -both at home & in the world, alphabetical, & numerical. I have not found another show like it anywhere....& yet the kids won't watch it. Breaks my heart!
Good question....thank you!
My kids dont like Sesame Street. I thought maybe it was this generation, being unable to focus, and being overstimulated, watching intereactive shows, etc. Turns out, they love all things Boomerang. They will watch Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Jetsons, all of that. So, it's not that new cartoons are more interactive and catch thier attention more or whatever else I thought. I did not have cable growing up. I watched Sesame Street because there was nothing else on! These kids have choices and don't have to watch Sesame Street.
I am glad to hear my son is not the only one! ;-) He is 3 and he likes watching the Dinosaur Train (which is before SS on PBS), and just turns the TV off when SS starts.
He likes Elmo and Cookie Monster and a few other characters. I am not sure why he does not like to watch SS. I know he does not like Abby at all and Murray (I think is his name?). Those characters did not exist when I was a kid. Maybe the newer additions to the program are not as good as the originals, I am not sure...
My daughter dont like it, but she does liek ballerina bit not love it.
I guess their choice maybe different than yours!
Same here! My 3 year old will only watch it when Elmo's world come's on too! I also grew up watching Sesame Street too! Rember Mr.Rodgers? I'm telling you, the show's way back were much more better then the ones they show on t.v. today! Or what about the Smurf's, or the Snork's? I wish they would bring those back! But I just end up buying her the Elmo dvd's and she'll watch them..
Same here! They watch Elmo's world and occasionally Bert and Ernie. Makes me sad too because of childhood! Then again we only had cartoons on Saturdays so it was our only option usually!
My kids like fresh beat band, which I detest. Especially the white guy who can't rap, lol! They don't care for Anything that isn't animated, like the muppets or fragile rock, which were big parts of my childhood as well. They don't like Thomas or any other "boy" cartoons. (I have two girls) and don't seem to like the wiggles (thank goodness), franny's feet, dirt girl, veggie tales, Diego, blue's clues, and the little one doesn't like Barney. She loved the backyardigans when she was really little but not anymore.
I want my daughter to like Olivia the pig because that's her name, but she doesn't seem to like it past the theme song! :(. They do love P&F, jem and the holograms (!), smurfs, strawberry shortcake, max and ruby, Mickey mouse clubhouse, little ones loves dora and caillou (ugh) and oldest likes thundercats and she-ra (double !!). I want the snorks back too!
Neither of my kids wanted anything to do with Sesame Street, Elmo toys, etc. Too boring compared to Diego & Dora.
He has to be in the mood to watch, he likes the older ones though with the disco and such not the current ones with rap and pop music ... go my kiddo for not liking rap!
Oh and thanks Juile F I now have the Olivia song stuck in my head ... Love that show and P&F is a staple in my house.
Both of my daughters LOVE Sesame Street (and Angelina Ballerina, for that matter), and I loved it as a child too! I remember how Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers were a part of every morning for me!
My seven-year-old simply loathes the backyardigans. I do too. I can't stand Dora, but my kids like it.
My 3 year old son doesn't like Sesame Street. I try to get him to watch it, but he tells me to turn it off :(
My kids are 11 and 15 now, but they never liked SS or Barney. Not one bit.
No, but I do with a passion. I just don't get it!
