Anyone Else Have an Irregular Heartbeat Show up During an OB Exam?

I went to my 24 week appointment yesterday with Baby #2 and the doctor told me the baby had an irregular heartbeat. I could clearly hear that it would skip beats or oocassionally add another one. He sent me to the hospital for overnight monitoring and they couldn't really pinpoint the exact rhythym. I went to see the Pediatric Cardiologist for another ultrasound and they told me that the baby's heart is structurally fine (nothing missing or deformed) but they can't explain much as to why the irregularity. Both the specialist and my doctor say that this can be normal, and almost 99% of babies have this go away right after birth, but I never experienced this with my first child and wondered if anyone else had this happen, or if anyone has any good advice?

What can I do next?

Hi!
I also had this happen with baby number 2 along with many other pregnancy complications. My first son had VSD(2 holes in his heart) so we were particularly worried and also had an echo of her heart. Everything with her heart was fine and it went away right after birth just as they said it probably would. Even if it doesn't the specialist at Loyola said it is not a big deal and would be controlled by the pediatrician with medicine if neccessary. The irregularities made it very hard for me to be on the monitirs for a NST!!(For other issues). Hang in there it will turn out fine!

I just went through this with my third baby. I had soooo many ultrasounds and doctor visits. My son was born just fine, with a good strong heart. He grew out of it just as my doctors thought he would. I guess they can put you on meds while you are pregnant - I never did. They just kept watching the baby. Good luck and I will pray everything turns out fine for you too!

I don't know about much about an irregular heartbeat in a fetus, but my dad and myself both have an irregular heartbeat. My dad and I are both prefectly healthy!

I recently read how this is actually quite common and it corrects itself most of the time. Please stay calm and hang in there! G-d willing things will be alright. Feel well and keep on smiling.
