Funny I'm reading this......I just went to grab a bottle of water from the fridge and looked at the sink full of dirty dishes and simply walked away. ;))
Not tonight.
I just don't feel like cleaning tonight. I know I will regret it in the morning when the kids are demanding breakfast and i'm trying to whip hubby's lunch together quickly--but screw it! I'm just going to sit on my butt, watch Mad Men and have a glass of wine :) Anybody else?

I guess I'm a minority here, lol. Most nights, my dishes sit until the morning. I may rinse them off, but I don't stand there and wash them. I know it just makes it a bit harder in the morning, but after dinner, I want to hang out with the hubby & kids and play or wrestle or whatever before they go to bed. I spend the whole day working around the house and not spending much time with the kids, and hubby works all day; so when dinner is done, it's family time. The dishes can wait.
I rinse dishes and leave in the sink for the morning. I have so much more energy in the morning. Night time is for chilling and wine! Is Mad Men back on now???
Yep, sure am. Just had a glass of wine with hubby and getting ready to watch a movie. And to top it off..Those dishes are going to sit there until I get off work tomorrow at 5!!
LOL, I do this at least 5 days a week! No kidding!!! It drives my husband nuts but I just don't feel like loading the dishwasher after we eat. I'll stack them in the sink and let them soak in dishwater til the next morning when I load them. Good to know there's others out there like me ;)
They breed.
Even if we just don't get to that last one right away, by bedtime, the sink is half-full, by morning, they've spread onto the counter. We don't know how it happens but it does.
So dishes are finished every night no matter what.
Sometimes that is all you can do. Everybody needs a break from time to time.
Each of us has to know what makes us comfortable and uncomfortable and when we need to declare a time to stop and recharge.
I wouldn't watch TV if I could get out into the country. When my children were young my spouse and I had a rule whoever cooked dinner did not clean up. I really needed that and he did a more thorough job than I did. We also decided that he would cook two nights a week.
After we parted I found that I preferred to take a break after dinner. I wash dishes before I go to bed which is how I settle down. Takes about 20 minutes.
Enjoy your quiet night and do not engage in any recriminations over needing to sit back on the couch and be entertained.
That just goes against every cell of my being....I just "can't"!
I prefer to tidy up before going to bed, but I admit that some nights I rinse the dishes off and stack them in the sink.
It depends on the kind of day I've had.
Sometimes we just say "to heck with it" and my son does them the next day before I get home from work.
I might leave most dishes in the sink, but I hate to leave the cast iron skillet overnight. Gotta wash that. It gets rusty overnight.
THEN I will have a glass of wine. :)
I dont LIKE leaving them overnight, but I've found if I leave dirty dishes in the sink Hubby will do them in the AM. He will NOT help in the evening.
Moles 1 J. 0, I hurt my knee mowing the lawn, the kitchen could be on fire and I just don't care.
Oh, beer. Schlafly Tripel. If that means nothing to you shame shame. It is as fine as beer gets outside of Belgium.
There are people who wash dishes before going to bed? lol, most days they are done, but if I am exhausted, I don't sweat it. There are 3 adults, 1 toddler so the dishes don't stack up that bad. The counters are always clean though lol and before I go out of town every thing has to be clean.
I start doing it maybe a month ago and has changed my world, now after dinner we put kids to sleep and watch tv for a while, then I woke up when my husband is leaving for work, kids still in bed and I can clean up every thing with out the rush, so when kids wake up the house is clean.
Tonight was 16 yo's night and she actually did them. So I get to go to bed with a clean kitchen.
Tomorrow night is 10 yo's night. Ask me then.
Every night of the week. I clean a few minutes every hour on the hour all day. But by the time 6pm comes around I'm DONE. These kids get their supper and I wipe their hands and then we are all about getting ready for bed and watching a little tv until they start to fall asleep.
Uhm, more often than I'd like to admit....
yep, got dishes in the sink tonight :)
LOL... dinner's still cooking at our house.
Yep... It happens. 3 kids and a husband that never helps with house work... I'm exhausted! I do all the laundry, dishes, picking up after EVERYONE, (including my MIL that lives with me). And if they have a problem with an occasional mess... Then they better start helping. That's the way I see it.
ooh God no!!! that would just chap my hide!!!
My dishes are done, counters are wiped off and THEN I can go to bed!!!
must be in the air....i hate leavin dishes in the sink....maybe we can take my dishes and your dishes and just throw them in the dumpster....no one has to clean them and we get to sit for the night????
Oh I hate it but I have left dishes in the sink, sometimes rinsed, sometimes not, and food on the plate on the counter. Pots and pans with left overs on the stove too. I hate when I get up and find it still there, dried crust, icky, but I still do it. I like the little time I get in the evenings with my husband and tv and all. But a few days ago, one of you asked about loading the dishwasher and one comment hit me just right. She said she runs the dishwasher and empties it as soon as its done and then all the day she rinses and loads as needed so theres never anything in her sink. It made me think more about how my kitchen looks and smells, and then how difficult it is to cook dinner, and breakfast when the sink in full, the counters full, and never enough silverware or glasses in the cabinet BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS DIRTY IN THE SINK!! So, thankyou to whichever M. said that. Ive been loading the dishwasher as I go and tonight the sink is empty! Tomorrow morning I will wake up and be thrilled to see the kitchen clean.
I grew up in a very busy family of 7, so there was ALWAYS dirty dishes. If you want to really stress me out, leave a dirty dish out. My dishes are always done, always will be. Unless I go out of town and my hubby runs the ship, then I'm just glad to come home to everyone having been fed and bathed!!
Yes I am and I refuse to feel guilty about it...until the morning.
Almost every night...if I do get to bed with an empty sink...I know it's been FANTASTIC day!
On a good day I get one load of dishes done. I don't know how, why we have so many...but we do.
Are you kidding? I ran the dishwasher twice last night and STILL had dishes in the sink late last night. No way was I going to feel guilty or "regret" it. I also washed floors, cleaned godawful messes no one should ever have to clean, ran some errands, cleaned my kitchen, my bathroom, and did it all in serious pain.
And my husband can whip his own lunch together. When there are leftovers from supper we have entree sized containers to pack them in so I'll pack those up or have the kids do it, but otherwise he can pack his own lunch. He's fully capable.
Can't do it! That's one thing that creeps me out.
Ordinarily no. But tonight, yes. Had a bout of food poisoning make its way through our house late yesterday/last night... and are still feeling weak from it. Those dishes can sit until I am fully recovered enough to stand there long enough to make sure they are sanitized!
Oh that was last night for me! I rushed this morning to get things clean in the kitchen. Sometimes you just have one of those days so I say enjoy that glass of wine girl!
No. I like my kitchen clean before I go to bed.
Updated
No. I like my kitchen clean before I go to bed.
Sorry, but I have to say no. Maybe a glass or a snack bowl but never a sink full of dirty dishes. We always clean up as soon as whatever meal is done. I'm not a neat freak or anything, I just don't like it.
Never. But... when I have company and it's late, I leave anything I can't stand to do, such as the pots and pans, and hide them (from me) on my screened porch. I clean the kitchen as usual and I can sleep like a baby. The next morning I have so much more energy to tackle those.
My hubby does the dishes and my oldest gets to put them away. So, they are done when they are done! Sometimes it's hubby that is late in doing them, and sometimes it is my son. And sometimes they work nicely together and get it all knocked out in no time. However, I guess it's a good thing leaving dirty dishes overnight doesn't bother me!
It's a rare occassion when I actually DO clean the dishes before bed. Honestly, at this point I generally leave them until the next day & then have the kids do them. I guess I could start having them do them at night...hmmm....there's a thought!
I so wish I could do this one! I have told my husband many times I'm not doing the dishes tonight--and lo and behold right before I turn in, I suck it up and do the dishes. My whole house can be a horrible mess, but if my sink is clean and clear of dishes I feel like a new woman in the morning!!!
Do it!! They will be there tomorrow and you can clean them up while the kiddos eat easy enough :) Enjoy your night!
I admit I am far from a great housekeeper, but that is the one thing I dislike most. No matter how I feel, I put them in the dishwasher.
I also make sure everyone is "trained" to rinse off their dishes!
My kid clean the kitchen every night
Umm, almost every night! I'm way too exhausted at the end of my day to get any cleaning or dishes done. So, they sit until the morning.
usually... I love when I have all the dishes done when I get up in the morning but it usually doesn't happen. Oh -well, I figure someday it will just be me and my hubby and dishes will be done, the floors will be clean, the beds will be made, well you get the idea :)
My day's and evening are extremely hectic; after working full time, getting home and getting the kids fed - by then it's nearly 7 and my husband is just getting home. We then start baths and get jammies on the kids. Many nights I want to just take a hot bath and go to bed. If I have dishes in the sink so be it.........
