I am pregnant with twins and just joined a multiples group in Pinellas for people with multiples. www.ppods.org. These ladies are full of information - maybe you could benefit from joining.
Need advice. I would love to find a lactation consultant that has breastfed twins herself. I find ones that only know more about singleton gives me unrealistic goals for breastfeeding two babies. My friend is also having the same problem with her twins. We nurse and nurse and nurse and they never seem satisfied, they don't want to latch and tandem feeding seems impossible. We are both by ourselves most of the time (my husband works and her husband is deployed for two months). We both have twins, mine are 5 weeks and hers are 7 weeks. We find ourselved pumping (which is harder to do with cleaning supplies and finding time in between feedings, cuddling, sleeping. We are just at a slump in this process but dont' want to give up.

Hi there!
First of all, Congratulations and YOU GO for even trying to continue to bf your twins. What a dedicated mommy you are!
I don't have twins and I'm not a lc, but a good friend of mine bf her twins until they were 5 months old. So, I'm sure she will have tons of realistic and reliable advice for you. She isn't a member of this forum, but just give her your info like you did here and ask her for advice, suggestions, etc. I'll email her and give her a "heads up." Her email address is ____@____.com and her name is Jenny.
Good luck and keep up the great work.
K.
The best lactation consultation in the area is Debbie Albert - she's FANTASTIC.
You are doing a wonderful thing by breastfeeding, especially twins. If you can avoid supplementing, that will be good because it will help keep your supply up.
Definitely give Debbie a call - I'm sure she can help!

I have 2 yr. old b/g twins and I did breastfeed both of them but I didn't do it simultaneously for very long. I just found it too frustrating and tiring but I did do it at times when they were both crying. Most of the time, I ended up alternating feedings so that while one was breastfeeding, the other would get a bottle. Since I already have an older son, whom I breastfed & formula fed, I did not feel guilty that I couldn't breastfeed all the time. It was more important that they got enough nutrition and if I had to give them formula, then so be it. I did my best with the breastfeeding and did pump some, but not a lot. You will spend enough time just caring for two that you won't have time for a lot of things. While tandem feeding, I did use a couple of boppies though it took awhile to figure out how to manipulate them. I'd have to sit propped up in bed with some extra pillows under my arms to be comfortable enough.
I have no recommendations for a consultant, but if you don't already, I would suggest you join one of the local twins/multiples groups. I'm sure you would get lots of advice from them. Try TBAMoms or TPOTS (they have a Yahoo group)
I just wanted to suggest Kellymom.com they have a forums area, the website is all about breastfeeding. Congrats on your twins and on b-fing them!!
