Anybody Have a Guess About the Ramzi Theory?

I am pregnant, and when I got my ultrasound, I forgot to ask which side the baby is on. (I've heard that a baby on the right is more likely male, and on the left is more likely female.) I can't tell from the pictures. However, my doctor was pushing the wand to the left. Does that mean the baby is more likely to be on that side?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I guess I should have explained what the Ramzi theory actually is. It's a study done by a sonographer who gathered a number of samples of early sonograms and noticed that the majority of babies who attached on the left side of the uterus were female and the majority of babies attached on the right side were male. (Not just squirming to one side or the other later in pregnancy.) His work hasn't been replicated and while I honestly don't understand why it would be true, it's an interesting hypothesis. I'm a little surprised more people haven't heard of it, because there has been a lot of discussion on forums. I had intended to ask my doctor which side my baby is attached on, but it totally slipped my mind at the moment. (I had a lot of distraction including the wonderful sound of the heartbeat!) I'm assuming by now my doctor might not remember, and I don't want to bother her after the fact with something that isn't an actual medical concern. (I do ask about the things that are concerning!) I didn't just ask her the gender, because I'm only eight weeks pregnant. I'm not trying to paint a nursery nor am I getting "sucked into myths" or neglecting prenatal care as a result. We love our child either way. It's harmless speculation, no crazier than thinking you might be having the opposite gender from your last pregnancy because you feel different. We're planning to find out the gender mid-pregnancy just like we did with my first child, but it's kind of fun to guess at the gender while we're waiting to find out. I just thought someone might know a little more about how the ultrasound machine picks up the images.
Edit: I actually found the answer I was looking for on another board-- it seems the picture does follow the direction of the wand. That's actually what I wanted to know. (Though I still can't tell much from the picture except that the baby is cute!) I'm glad someone had awesome chin hair! LOL

This really makes no sense to me. If you want to know the sex of the baby, ask the doctor. Who cares what side the baby is on as long as he or she is healthy.

Baby on the left means you're having a Democrat. Or maybe not. Hard to tell!

ETA: Is it "your left", or the baby's left? Or both?

Add: If his work hasn't been replicated, it's a hypothesis and not scientifically proven. If others can't replicate the results, it's just interesting.

x or y chromosomes. 2 x = girl. x y = boy. Old wives tales don't mean anything re. what the sex is. Only an amnio will tell you.

What do you mean, which side? Babies in utero move all around, until they get so big that they have less room. And you could have just asked if you wanted to know the sex, why didn't you? This is a confusing question.

I've never heard of what you are talking about. My baby was everywhere and very active.

Why did you not ask the Dr during the sono?

Why didn't you ask if they could tell you the sex of the baby during the ultasound? My kiddos were all over the place. Right, left, up, down, across. I have also heard of the "draino" test. Honestly, I put no stock in those types of myths.

well, Jgirl, I've not been pregnant for over 12 years now. I have NO CLUE what Ramzi Theory is. I had to look it up. It sounds like an old wives tale "thing".They want to determine sex by where the placenta is attached? Hmm. no.

We didn't need ultrasounds. When I was pregnant with my boys - my voice got REALLY deep and hair grew on my chin....when I was pregnant with girls - my voice got REALLY high and my fingernails and eye lashes grew. These happened when I got to 10 to 12 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. May you have a smooth one and a healthy baby!

I've never heard of this till now.

However if you Google it, they show you how to interpret your picture. Look up The Gender Experts and Ramzi theory.

Looking at it, it wasn't true in my case. So personally, I would say no accurate.

Sorry Patricia, but I disagree with you. An amniocentesis is NOT the only way to know a baby's gender. I never had one done, yet we all knew the baby's gender because of the ultrasound the doctor performed...
