Hello moms,

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I've been going through a series of ultra-sound thru out my pregnancy to check if my placenta has "moved up". Anyway, Dr. told me last week that if its still hasn't moved. She said that by the end of 36 weeks if no progress, I may need a C-Section, which I never had. My Placenta Previa was diagnosed as "marginal". Is it possible to still have vaginal birth even with a marginal PP? I really don't want a c-section. =(

Thanks for any info.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello moms, first thank you for all your advices. I truly appreciate it. I just came back from my dr. appt. and she did another ultra sound..unfortunately, the placenta has not moved. The baby is already in position and you can actually see the placenta just above his head. I asked for the specialist to come and see what she said and pretty much agreed with my dr. They don't believe that at 34 weeks my placenta will ever move up. So..with that said..we are scheduling the c-section in 3 weeks. I've prepared myself for it mentally and I know that the goal of all this is to deliver our baby safely.

Thanks again for everyones advices. Reading all your responses has helped me accept whatever the outcome might have been. Also, the Lord has better plans that we do. I trust all things will workout for the best.

Thanks again!
G.

When I was pregnant with my 1st son at 8 weeks I started bleeding on and off, than by 11 weeks I found out I had a Placenta Previa. When ever I started bleeding, I had to lay on my side and drink 8oz of water, finally at 16 weeks they placed me on complete bed rest. was able to get up to go to the bathroom and that was it. Mine was Partial, and he was born at 33 weeks, they did an amnio to test his lungs. and c-section 2 days later.
I wanted a normal delivery, but could not take the chance of the placenta moving. If I was to go in labor, there would be the chance the placenta would come before him, and with the placenta helping him breath, I could not chance it.

Not wanting to have a C-section is no reason to put your child at risk. I had an emergency C-section with my first child and chose to have a C-section over a VBAC with my second.. it isn't that bad.. don't make it worse than it has to be..
Good Luck and God Bless.. and please do not take matters into your own hands.. doctors are there to keep you and your child safe.. so please let them..

I had the same diagnosis with my second child. I was dead set against the C-section so I did all the labor at home and waited to go to the hospital until literally the very last minute. I was in labor and delivery for all of 5 minutes before she was born. I had no IV, no medication, no baby moniters, nothing (not even a gown on because it was that close).
After she was born, she was immeadiatly taken to NICU for a different problem and my OB/GYN gave me a lecture I will never forget. She was right. I should not have taken in all into my own hands and should have been monitered while in labor.
My suggestion is to moniter your body and the baby closely and do everything your OB says. Don't be shy to say you would prefer the natural labor but be open and read up on C-section and discuss your concerns with your OB and with women who have had a C-section. I'm sure any good OB would prefer a natural labor over surgery anytime and she would not suggest it unless she thinks it may adversely affect you or the baby.
As for my daughter, she is now a healthy, happy and very active 2 & 1/2 year old. And I feel very lucky.

I also had this and it mean the plecenta comes first and it can tear that is why you want a c- section if they say so it can get in the way.

Hi there!

Now i dont have any experience in PP.. but I do have experience with c sections.. My 5 yr old daughter was an emergency c section.. That was scary... My second daughter was a planned c section and that went a lot better.. Yes c sections arent bad... but if it saves u and ur baby thats what I would go with..

G.,

If it were me, I'd ask for referral to a perinatologist. A perinatologist is a high risk pregnancy specialist. I had one for both of my pregnancies (I have a serious preterm labor problem). Their training and experience is much different than that of a regular OB. I would think that would be your best chance of assessing whether or not you really need a c-section and avoiding an unnecessary c-section (if it is unnecessary).

Good luck!

I had Placenta Preia when I was Preg. with my son who is now 1, this was my 3rd son, I too had to check the placenta my whole pregnancy, it never moved up but I had the choice to try vaganial birth, my other children were vaganial and I to did not want to have a c-section so I tried and after 11 hrs of trying my placenta pulled away from my uterus causing sever hemerging and my babys heart rate to drop down to almost nothing... I ended up with an emergency c-section, and it was the most teriffing thing I have ever been through. I now wish I would have just scheduled a c-section and studied it and been comfortable with the whole thing, It would have been a much better experiance, the healing process is not as horrible as you think and the scar shrinks down to almost nothing. I was able to nurse my son even with my stomach healing, the part that was so scary was going through normal labor and all of a sudden 15 nurses walking in and telling me that me and the baby aren't doing so well and we needed to do the c-section, and literally signing your life away on about 10 diff. pieces of paper, luckly I had the epadural or I would have had to be put totally out... all this because my uterus never "moved up".. just keep a open mind when making your decision, a planned c-section is not as bad a emergancy c-section.

I am not familar wit PP but I have read alot about in classes. I had a emergency c-section after 24 hours of labor and arrested dialation. I was so scared but in the end everything worked out fine for both me and my daughter. I truly hope all goes well with the rest of your pregnancy. Good luck with your baby boy.

I haven't had PP, but my mom had it when she was pregnant with me. I have heard of people still having a vaginal birth, but only if the placenta is to the side mostly. As far as I know you CAN'T do vd with placenta previa. The baby would try to push through the placenta and if it ruptures you could both be in serious danger. That is what happened with me and my mom. She went itno early labor and the placents started to seperate. I know the idea of a c-section is scary, but it's safer than the alternative.
