Hi!
I have an incredible niece who turns 7 in 3 weeks.
She lives overseas, so I want to get her a nice present and ship it for her big day.

A little bit about her:
She's very intelligent, learned to read and write when she was 3, has been learning English as a second language since she was 5, and is remarkably curious. She loves to solve puzzles, learn new things, and make discoveries. She also loves Disney princesses and things that glitter and glow (she's quite girlie). :-)

I'd love some insight from moms to girls at this age - what's a unique and memorable game/toy that would be interesting, fun and challenging at the same time?

Oh, and can't be heavy or too big since it needs to be shipped internationally.

Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

what a fun puzzle - since she is overseas I would think an AMERICAN type toy would be neat.
Some of my daughters' favs are polly pockets, zhu zhu pets, those new bracelets that are shaped like things (all the rage! try Walgreens they'll know what I am talking about but go on a Tuesday night when they get the shipment in), jewelry making kits, American Girl books or kits, barbies.

You may want to call her mom and see if those are things the mom would know of not, if not then they are a go.

I work for Discovery Toys and we have a few items that would be perfect for a bright young girl! Plus, they are pretty small so they'd be easy to ship, and they travel well if her family goes on vacations (some are even great to bring to restaurants). You can view ALL my toys and make a purchase at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao Here are the specific ones I'd recommend:

Whiz Kidz: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...
Labyrinth: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...
Mosaic Mysteries: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...
Word Flip: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...
Puzzle Island: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...
How to Build Your Own Country: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...

They are all really fun AND educational. You could buy one or pick 2-3 that you think she'd like. Some are on sale right now as well!!!

The Gap has really cute charm bracelets. They are not too expensive and won't cost you a fortune to ship. The actual bracelet is like $7 and each charm is $5-6. I've bought a bunch this season for girls from 4-10 and they LOVE them.

For the scientist in her, a microscope or a telescope.

For the little girly-girl in her, a jewelry making kit or perhaps some special hair accessories or glittery shoes, or perhaps a pretty sundress. She would probably also love receiving her own special diary and writing pen or a jewelry box.

As far as games go, my kids love the Disney DVD bingo game, Monopoly Jr., Clue Jr., and the usual card games like Uno, Old Maid and Go Fish.

Hope this helps.

My daughter is very into clothes and accessories. She is always excited with new dress up clothes for pretend play and real dresses to look pretty. She loves getting hair clips/bows and bracelets. She is into putting on make-up for fun, and there are some cute makeup kits out there for the younger crowd.
If you are looking for a little bit bigger present, my daughter has been very into American Girl doll for about a year, but that is opening up an expensive habit!
Since you are shipping overseas, what about a gift card to a place near where she lives to get her nails/toes done....or maybe there is something like a 'Sweet and Sassy' over there? My daughter thinks its great to go to the "spa" to have her nails done for a special occasion.
Good luck!

If she is big into exploring and discovering new things, you could check out some of the Science and Toys section on the following website. http://www.frys.com/category/Outpost/Sciencetoys/Science?...=

My niece is similar to your niece, but my niece is 10 years old. She loves all of the girlie stuff, but she also loves to learn. Science really intrigues her. I bought her the microscope kit (its not a heavy metal microscope. Its is fairly light weight) for her birthday in February. She loves playing with it. She goes out in the yard and picks stuff up, puts it on a slide, and looks at it under the microscope.

I don't know if this would be good for your niece, but there are also several other learning toys that Fry's sells.

There is a book series "Magic Tree House" that has about 43 books in it. The kids going into 2nd grade (boys and girls) LOVE these books and they are easy to ship as are available in paperback. Perhaps you could send a few of them with some cute hair accessories or a bracelet. If she likes the books, you could expand her set with future gifts.
