Any Phlebotomists?

Hi Moms,

I am currently taking a phlebotomy course. My ideal job as a phlebotomist would be regular daytime hours Monday - Friday. Does that limit me to doctor offices and maybe clinics only, or do you think I could still have this schedule working at a hospital?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My Hubby is a phlebo and works at a hospital. Daytime hours are available, but not working any weekends is rare. My hubby actually works nights and alternates weekends. If you want Mon-Fri, you may be limited to clinics and outpatient labs. Usually only the higher ups get every weekend off. Oh and holidays -you'd have to work those, too. Healthcare isn't exactly the best profession if you want a basic "regular" schedule.

Another option would be a lab, like Quest Diagnostics.

Check the job listings for local hospitals and see what opportunities they have for phlebotomists, or just call the HR dept of a hospital and ask them what they think. They'd be the best resource for your specific area.

Yes. You can have regular hours as a hospital phlebotomist. They work out of the lab area, if I remember correctly (I used to work in a hospital setting and was fortunate enough in my role to come across and work with a number of departments). You many not get this shift as a newbie, but they do exist.
Hospitals also have free-standing clinics for blood draws that to the newborn "heel stick" testing, employment drug testing, etc. that are only open the standard office hours.
I'd call a local hospital and just ask to speak with someone in the department.

I work in the laboratory industry but in anatomical pathology. The large labs like Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp have very normal daytime hours in their patient service centers. Both of them usually start you off as temps or floaters before a permanent position.

My mom was a phlebotomist....she worked at a blood bank. Her hours were crazy. Sometimes she worked in the center (normal hours) and sometimes she'd be out on a mobile ( crazy early or late hours depending on the site).
