My mom and I both do that with my brother and my son. But only those two. Don't know what it is but it is rather funny. I don't think you have anything to worry about. lol
Hi Moms~
Im sure this is comical, and feel free to take a chuckle at my expense...but am I alone here? I have 3 boys and for the life of me, I can't get their names straight. It never fails that I will call one over and over, only to have him ignore me, then to discover I was calling him the wrong name! Now, Im only 34 and have no reason to think I have an actual memory deficit. Why is it only my kids' names'?
People kid me and say it's because I have boys...of course that is silly but sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me! Anybody else???

Good to know Im not alone. I also call my sons by the dogs' names' and vice versa, or my husbands name. I really like the number method...but I have now resorted to calling them munchkin and monkey (the oldest one really doesn't fit the nicname mold...LOL). Why I can remember munchkin and monkey and not Connor and Mason is beyond me...but oh well! Thanks for reminding me that I am supermom, doing it all at once...and that all of you are in the same boat!! :)
And to Linda C...this was pretty lighthearted issue...I already said I don't have actualy memory issues or unaddresses stressors. I think I can spare the doc from acting like a hypochondriac!!!

I only have one kids and I often mix up her name with the dogs name. We all work so hard and have so many things to remember everyday. It's no doubt we forget names....even our childrens names. Too think I used to question my own mom on how she could forget my name.
If it helps I'm 28 with three boys and am always calling them the wrong names. My mom use to do it with my sisters and I also so it's not just boys. In my family we call it the mom disease :)

You're not losing it or alone, just overwhelmed, like a lot of us. I have two sons and switch their names a lot. I sometimes call them by my brother's name. Since they are 18 and 20 I can't tell their voices apart from their father on the phone. It can frustrate me to no end sometimes. Welcome to the club!

I think we all do that, I have 3 sons (5 if we count husband), I forget the names of everything. I will end up saying Honey, Sweetheart, Angel, can you get me that thing over there, by the thing, Then I will forget what it was I was doing in the first place. Its not you, its our eyes watching 10 things, ears trained to hear trouble or when it is to quiet, and all of the multi tasking we do these days, it is a wonder we get anything done at all if you ask me.

I have 5 boys and never get thier names right either, I have even called to one of them using my husbands name! What we do sometimes is refer to them by number. SON #1 #2 #3 #4 and #5. Sons 1-4 know thier number, but Son #5 is only 21 months old and doesn't get the joke yet!
3 boys here and never get the name right either! Sometimes even the dogs name gets thrown in the mix!!
Im the middle of 5 and my ENTIRE LIFE I have been called the wrong name....lol...heck, with my mom I could have been called the dog, cat, or fishes name! lol....I think it is something that happens to someone when they have alot of things on their mind at one time and alot of people/animals/things to scold when they are misbehaving or when your trying to get their attention! We went to the number system :o) Your not crazy but it did make me chuckle :o)
I am right there with you. Heck I am lucky I remember my name sometimes. I have 4 kids, Christina is 17 and Isabella, Logan and Brody are 6. I end up yelling "Ok whichever kid you are".
I have 5 kids and had a tendency to be forgetful about more than just the kids names. Found out that I was not losing my mind, just losing too much B12 from my system. Have your doctor check your B12 level. If it is low, you can have symptoms of forgetfulness.
Memory problems and a lack of focus are often the result of nothing more than ongoing stress - like sleep problems, poor diet, anxiety that's not being handled well, or circumstantial stress (aging parents, diminishing investments, financial insecurity)... so the solution to the problem is nothing more than getting the stress alleviated.
This may also be a symptom of pernicious anemia (a b12 deficiency, caused either by a lack of it in diet or an absorption difficulty) or mercury poisoning. It's probably worth a blood panel to find out if the cause is simple (removing the mercury source will clear it up in a few weeks, supplementing B12 will clear it up about as fast)...
So... relax, breathe and visit the clinic just to be sure.
I also feel like I'm losing it. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I also work full-time outside the home. sometimes I call my boys the dogs names to and Vs Versa. I can't remember anything half the time that I just did 10 minutes ago. I have lost and replaced 3 cell phones this month.
