My daughter was born with temporary paralysis in her right arm due to shoulder dystocia at birth. We took her to a chiropractor when she was two days old and she has never had a problem since that day! So yes, take him! I know it will hlep.
My 3 month old son has major reflux (GERD). Looking at additional/alternative ways to help him. He's miserable. Anyone ever use a chiropractor to cure reflux? Any thoughts? We have done (are doing) Zantac, Bethanical and Gripe water and he seems to have taken a turn for the worse this week. Looking for new ideas.
Thanks,

H. I think you should absolutley see a chiro. You need to get your baby off that medicine ASAP. I personally take my children to a chiro and it does wonders and she is also a functional medicine doctor/ alternative doc. She will fix the reflux by finding the cause of it not just giving you a med to treat the symptom. Her name is Jennifer Ridley and she is great! I had a friend who;s 6 week old baby had reflux and wanted to put her on meds and the doc shortly fixed the problem medicine free. Her number is ###-###-#### she is located in Hurst.
Arvigo Technique of Mayan Abdominal Massage may help. See Arvigomassage.com
Yup, when my oldest was a newborn we brought him to a chiro I had been seeing during the pregnancy when he wouldn't latch (on the breast). He was nursing before we left the office, almost 24 hours old & we were close to having to use formula (something I didn't want to do).
Get reccomendations! Find a chiropractor who is experienced with dealing with children. There is one in Hurst? one of the mid-cities - whose office is right by a birthing center, I've heard good things about them (I believe its a husband/wife team). And a couple I've used myself - Chandra Crisp (Irving) and Lamonaco(not sure if that spelling is right) who was in Lewisville, but who knows now as that was YEARS ago.
Good luck!
When my son was still new he saw a chiroprator, for collic ( that was also treating me). I would have never beleived it but it did wonders for him he was like another child, so much more content and out of pain.
My daughter now 2 had reflux and was diagnosed when she was 2 months old. We thought she had a milk allergy so while breastfeeding I had to supplement Nutramigen. It was so bad we would change clothes 8-10 times a day. We did all the blood test and found out it was reflux. So they put her on Zantac which did help, but stopped working as well after a couple of weeks. I guess her body just got use to the medication. I knew a couple at church who were chiropractors and told them the problems I had with her. I brought her in and after the first couple of treatments it was gone. I took her off the medication and she was 100% better. I think they are wonderful and would recommend them to anyone. There website is family-wellness.com and Dr. C. Haggerton is awesome. They also take insurance so your visit might even be covered.
My best friend takes her children to the chiropractor about every 3 months to get "adjusted" (not for reflux-but just to make them feel better in general-colic when they were tiny) and she started this when they were only a few weeks old. SHe swears by it, however I would never do it just from another friend's personal experience with going to one. So--do some research before you do. If you feel comfortable, it might be worth a try to get you baby some relief. Good Luck!!!
Yes, both my children has been adjusted by a chiropractor since birth! My husband is a chiropractor and he sees lots of families. His name is Kevin Smith, Trinity Family Chiropractic, ###-###-####, www.trinityfamily chiropractic.com
H. W.,
Hello. How would you like to try an alternative but very safe and effective treatment...a natural supplement - Aloe-vera. People are finding out in 120 countries around the world that aloe vera juice not only strengthens the immune system, but also assists in maintaining a healthy digestive system.
See www.foreverliving.com in the "Drinks" section. Aloe vera juices. Children like the Bits n' Peaches flavor!
In addition, I would see a massage therapist with experience in infant massage prior to a chiropractor. A more relaxed yet very effective focus and treatment may be accomplished. So you know, I work with a chiropractor and I've seen the treatments.
Please feel free to contact me with questions. Thank you.

I am SO sorry to hear about your son having reflux. My son had it and has just gotten off Zantac in the past month. It's so hard to be a mommy of a reflux baby and I commend you for seeking help for him and your family. :)
Have you tried giving him some Mylanta Supreme Cherry favored when things get really bad? I would give my son about 1-2 ml before feeding in between the Zantac dosings to help him out.
The supreme cherry flavored is safer for children and does not contain any Aluminum. Also I would suggest keeping him upright as much as possible mainly after he eats. Feeding him propped up instead of holding him my help too. I have a sling called a Tucker sling that helps to keep them propped in a up right position while lying in the crib. It helped us so much.
If you are interested in one, i have one that I am going to sale soon at a garage sale for 40 dollars in great condition. Just email me back if you are interested in it. http://www.tuckersling.com/
Also I found that the Gripe Water for some reason seemed to aggravate his reflux more instead of helping it. I don't know if you are breast feeding or not but thicking his formula could help as well. Just don't forget to prick a larger hole in the nipple for it to go through. I would use rice cereal or you can buy some thing the sell at the pharmacy.
As for going to the chiro, my husband and I go regularly and both my sons have seen them as well. She had told me to massage the area that sits just below his sternum in a S shape going downward gently. It helped and so did the adjustments but I still continued with giving a low dose of Zantac because it worked and I was not about to go without anything again. It was bad and I did not want to go back there again! So I do think that a visit to a chiro is not a bad idea if you are looking for something other than what your traditional doctor has tried. Just make sure that you find one that sees babies in the practice regularly.
You probably already knew some of the things that I told you but I thought it might help you if you didn't. I didn't get much help from my doctor and ended up doing alot of research on it myself. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and alone and would like to help someone else that is going through it if I could. :)
Please feel free to email me if you would like to.

My 10 month old son was born with a brachial plexus injury to his right arm (Erb's Palsy). We began therapy once a week at 3 weeks old. Nothing happened. I finally gave in and took him to the Chirpractor my cousins recommended and the VERY SAME DAY after his adjustment his therapist saw movement in his arm FOR THE FIRST TIME!! I truly believe it is why he has improved so much and now has almost full use of his once paralyzed arm. Am I a Chiropractic advocate??? YOU BET I AM!! It's worth a try!
I think the chiropractor is great! I have gone since I was little and I have taken my son since he was 8 weeks old. It really helps with allergy problems and when they are cutting teeth as well.
Absolutely! Both of my girls have been adjusted (and will continue to be - as needed) since they were infants. My chiropractor is Dr. Melissa Shelton in Plano - Preston and Hedgcoxe, just south of 121 (I don't know what area you are in), but she is wonderful with children! Her number is: ###-###-####. Take him to get adjusted....you won't regret it! And if Dr. Shelton is not convenient for you, please make sure that whoever you go to is comfortable, and experienced with infants/children, because not all chiropractors are.
Good Luck!

Hi, my son was the same way. We had him on the angled reflux pillow, meds, and everything. The pillow was great, and we learned massage techniques. Those helped the most over everything else (read below for more on that). If you are going to take him to a chiro, I'd recommend Susan Coriea in Round Rock. She's done great work for me, but I'm not sure it would be very pleasent for a baby.
Here is what we did and learned: We even had our son alergie tested to see if he was lactose intolerant. You might do that to rule it out, but the test is unpleasent and involves being priked in the skin on the back. You can do a full test of many different possible sources of alergies, or just ask for the few you are interested in. That turned up negitive for us, but my brother's daughter was tested and found alergic to milk, and once she was switched to soy, she got better.
Anyway, back to your question, here is what helped us: We took him to a physical therpaist who had experiance with kids and infants. She helped. If you're around Austin, ask for Christi at Hands on Physical Therapy Group in Round Rock in Hester's Crossing. We also went through Bridges to Growth in Georgetown, a free community information and outreach group that hosts training, playdates, and had a free library of resources, including some therapy toys. They had a lot of great resources/info, as did ECI/PRIDE. One of the things we learned that really helped was the "I love you massage". It is a massage you do on thier belly that helps calm them, helps them process the food, etc. He really calmed down with that. We also learned to move his legs in certain patterns. The 'bicycle' pattern seemed to help. You just put him on his back and move his legs like you would if he was biking, pulling them up one at a time in a circle to almost to the chest and back. I was sure it would upset him more, but it helped his body move the right way to process the food and get rid of gas that was backed up and adding to his grief and inabilty to process more food.
We also thickened his formula, but that only helped a little. There are thinkeners you can buy, or just add a spoonful of baby oatmeal. It will sometimes get stuck in the nipple, but you can squeeze it to get it remixed.
It will pass, I promise, just hang in there.
I have two girls and both have been to the chiropractor... My oldest went because they had to use the forceps on her and she could not hold her beck up straight but the time she was four months... The chiro. straightened her out and she is fine now. My youngest went because her hips kept popping out of place when she was about 4 months old. She would cry because it hurt so bad. Both of my girls are doing well. Just make sure you find a good infant and child doctor... Look in the phone book and the go visit them before you decide which one to use. I took my girls to one in New mexico becsue that is where my mom lives and we were just trying to fix my 1st daughters neck.. I don't know any that live here.
