Yes, go to CNN.com, they just did a report on it last week, friday I believe. My sister was 9 when she got her's and is 13 now, 5'8 and 130 lbs, with boobs!!! You are not alone, it more common than you think.
I am wondering if any other "lucky" mom has heard of Premature Puberty...My youngest daughter is 7 and supposedly already started her period...Has anyone heard of this? What should I do? Medication or No medication? I don't know.
Thank you in advance for you help...

Okay so we have went to the Gynocologist yesterday... She says everything looks normal EVEN the ultrasound...BUT, Her pediatrician and the tech who did the ultrasound said she had fluid in her uterus... The Gyno said she did not... And not to be alarmed, that they did every test of anything that could be wrong and everything came back fine... But my mothers instinct is telling me not to believe them..I don't know what to do now...Am I just being paranoid??? And also she used a Q-tip in side her Vagina to look for traces of blood...Which I was not happy about...And now my daughter is hurting down there...Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain she is feeling... It is hard for her to soak in a tub because her skin in her private area is very sensative....
Okay fellow moms...Her pediatrician has no clue...OF COURSE...So we have made an appt with a gyno that is willing to work with a 7 year old. Her last name is Mascara, here in Abilene...Has anyone heard of her??? She is new from what I hear but I am hoping that she will be a little more caring on finding out what is wrong with her. She is once again having her little pms mood swings I don't know what to do for her??? Is she cramping??? Or is she just having PMS??? I don't know and they don't make anything for that for her age...I feel like I am going crazy for her, with her....How ever you want to look at it....AGAIN thanks for ya'll help and support....
HELLO again....I just wanted to thank everyone for your info it has helped alot. Thanks to all of you I am more educated and now know what I need to ask about and what I want done...This is truly a chaotic situation but you guys have seemed to help so much I was so scared, couldn't sleep, and mainly because I was worried about how she felt.. How she is handling all of this. I will definantly let ever one know the progress and eventually diagnosis....Thanks Again.
I have taken her to the doctor. She has had blood work done, and today had an ultrasound, the lady that did the ultrasound said that she could see fluid in her endometrius (not sure what that is) and also found fluid in her uterus. But I won't get the results back from the doctor for a week...I am going crazy...I am not really one to completely trust doctors (mainly from past experiences) I will definatley get a second or maybe a third opinion...I don't want to put her on any meds just for the simple fact that I am afraid of long term affects...But family members say that I should...I don't know what to do...I feel at a loss. I am afraid of making the wrong decision....

I hope that there is nothing wrong. I wouldn't put her on any meds... ummm I hate to ask, but is there a chance of someone molesting her...sensitive subject, but could explain the blood. don't want to scare you, but that was the first thought I had... although I imagine the dr would have seen evidence of it if there had been any
my mom's best friend started her period at age 8, so it is possible that your daughter has started her period. i have no idea about medications though. i know a friend who has endimetriosis and has been on birth control pills since she was a young teen, so i don't know if there's a correlation or not. make sure your daughter's doctor gives you the info you need and want! you are paying them for a service, they need to give you the best service possible!
I actually saw a little girl and her mother on Oprah a few years ago going through the same thing. It is very rare but basically the little girl (who was also about 7 or 8) was beginning to develop breasts and pubic hair. The doctors did put her on some type of medication to stop puberty but I agree with you; you should get a second or even third opinion (preferably from a reputable OB/GYN) before putting your daughter on medication. Seven is very young to be starting a period but I started at 10 so I guess it could be possible. Also if you don't understand what the doctor is talking about (the endometris and the ultrasound results) don't be afraid to ask. Most mothers don't hold PhDs and doctors often talk in techinical terms that we don't understand. Ask them to break it down for you in laymens terms. You may think your question comes across as silly but it's better to be informed. Good luck!
Get to a reputable endocrinologist, get her period stopped. Starting the menstruation process inhibits her growth, mentally and physically (pueberty affects the brain nurological system interaction, and starts eliminating pathways that are not in use..and at 7, she should be developing those pathways still..not shutting them down). Also, starting her period now, unchecked, affects her future fertility. Your daughter does not need to be going through this. And, while you are getting this in check with your endocrinologist (get with a specialist, get away from the primary care, pediatrician, internest...this is major) eliminate all foods that are not organic...especially milk, meat, chicken, egss...these all have come from animals that have been given excessive hormones and antibiotics..those hormones are transfered through to the human body through consumption. This also affects your children's development....in a bad way. Please don't let this be allowed to continue. I'm sure you've checked google for stories about this, and websites etc, and there are some people who are saying this is normal, some races develop earlier..like young black girls...or southeast easian/samoan girls, and it is all natural..but it is not true. Various things are affecting earlier maturation..even having a non-genetic male in the house is being shown to induce earlier pueberty starts. This is just being explored by scientists, but your daughter does not have to be the guinea pig.
Also, you may want to ask the dr for homeopathic options, and if he can't or won't check with a local healthfood store for any recommnedations for drs that incorporate homeopathic treatments. Good luck.
I have heard of Premature Puberty and I strongly encourage you to do as much research as you can before you make any drastic decisions because your daughter is soo young. I will put you and your family in my prayers so that you will find some answers that you need
I have heard of it. It is also called "precocious puberty". My knowledge of it is limited to what I've learned by doing pediatric ultrasounds. I'm an ultrasound tech. I would definitely check with a pediatrician, maybe even try a gynecologist who specializes in pediatrics. It would be good to have them order an ultrasound to check out her ovaries & stuff. I'm not sure what exactly causes it, but I've heard that the hormones that are in all the meats & foods we eat can contribute to it. I'm also not sure if there's a way to stop it once it has occurred. Anyway, hope this was of some value to you!
You might want to get her checked by the doctor. She may of hurt herself playing and did not want to alarm you. Take her to the doctor and let them tell you if she did start early. Don't give her any meds. Talk to the doctor first. I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old girls. If they would of told me this at that age I would of already made a doctors appointment.
I'm sorry that I don't have anymore info, but my grandmother said she started at 8. If it helps though, she went on to have three children, so it didn't harm her.
has she seen a dr. yet?
I wouldn't reccomend meds at this young age.
I have heard of it, read some of the research. There are alot of "ideas" out there as to what causes such an early start to puberty. Some say it's the growth hormones sometimes found in Milk, red meat etc.
I have never experienced it or know some one who has, well under the age of 10 anyway.
I would find a good Gyno and talk to him/her about it. Starting at 7 is rare.
good luck!
Hi ,
Last week there was a sagment on Good Morning America that was on this same subject. You might go to that website(I think it is www.gma.com or try www.abc.com) and look at the arcives on shows that they have done. They profiled childern alot younger then yours that have started puberty. I hope that helps alittle.
I myself had early puberty. I am 30 now and have two children. My Mother noticed my breast developing at age 6. She took me to the Doctor and I was checked out on a regular basis (every month for awhile then 3 months then 6 months as I got older) x-rays were taken to watch my bone growth. I had vaginal exams that I still remember as being completely frightening. I was put on medication and took it until the age of almost 10 just a few month after taking it I started my period. I am personally glad she chose to use medication because I would not have wanted my period any earlier. I developed before all the other girls as it was and felt very insecure.
Though I would definitely get a 2nd opinion (maybe by a gyno. who specializes in that area), I would also make sure the milk she drinks or eggs she eats are hormone free -- I've had friends who have had experiences like your own b/c of this. I do have a friend who started her period at 9 years old -- girls seem to be starting earlier and earlier -- I definitely believe it's a cause of the hormones in both meats & dairy, something I've replaced with all hormone-free products. But another opinion, just to make you feel better and I totally agree with not putting her on any medication at all -- it'll mess her up later.
I work for a specialty pharmacy that dispenses injectible drugs and one of our "bigger sellers" is a hormonal treatment called Lupron (or Leuprolide Acetate or Depo Lupron) it has many purposes, one of which being Precocious puberty (or early puberty) FYI, you are not alone by far...I have hundreds of pt's getting Lupron for this purpose and I talk to the parents on a regular basis and other than the fact that you have to give your baby a shot once a month the side effects are minimal. Most of the little girls who need this are between the ages 6 and 8...(I've actually had a 5 year old once!!) The problem with early puberty is that if it's not stopped it can cause a significantly greater risk for breast cancer, uterine cancer, and other "female issues"...it's also a large contributer to early menopause (like at ages 30-40). If I were you i would most definetly get a second or even third opinion but if the majority states that drugs are the way to go rest assured that it's better for her in the end. Feel free to Google "Lupron" and read the uses and side effects for yourself... Good luck!
hi i can say that i was 8 when i started "hitting puberty" my mom didnt do nothing except explan what was going on with my body.
