My daughter, 4, was diagnosed with KD in March. She showed all the signs and symptoms and was in the hospital for a week. She was given the IVIG treatment and we went to Hopkins for follow up Echocardiograms. All has gone well for the most part. I am writing because this child, who had eczema to begin with, has done nothing but peel and crack and bleed ever since she was initially diagnosed. Her skin is so so sensitive and giving her a shower has turned into a nightmare because of how bad it dries her out.She is at home today because her eyes are burning and the skin on her face is scaling and bleeding. I have tried the usual remedies for eczema including vasoline, aquaphor, and Rx meds. It has occured to me that ever since her being diagnosed..her skin has gotten 100% worse and I cannot find a dermatologist in this area who will see her before Sept'08. Her pediatrician just thinks it's the eczema out of control. I don't. I know she is suffering and trying to help her. Can anyone please let me know if this is something that they have gone through with thier child, or any suggestions. Again, her pediatrician is so unfamiliar with Kawasaki Disease that she is just chalking this up to being eczema. Basically I am on a mission to find a doctor who specializes in Kawasaki disease, or who is at least familiar with it. Because so little is known about this disease it's been hard determine what type of dr to take her to. Any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time !

I don't know anything about Kawasaki disease, sorry. But I do know for the eczema a good thing to do is to bathe in Milk of Magnesia. You can get a bottle at dollar stores and just use it like soap to bathe with. It might take a few times. I've seen it help my eczema.

S.,
Kawasaki disease would not cause your daughters' eczema because it is inflammation of the veins. My daughter has eczema and I know that during the winter months I can only give her a bath or shower 2 to 3 times a week. At night I would pack her areas of breakout with Eucerine Cream (the thick white like paste), this seemed to help her. I am not sure but your daughter's case sounds much worse than my daughter has had. Have you tried to see a dermatologist at hopkins?

Hello S.,
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter and this disease that is plaguing her. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with KD but I do know of an excellent dermatologist in the Baltimore area who may be able to help her. His name is Dr. Joel Max. He's located in Timonium. His number is ###-###-####. Prayerfully, he'll be able to help you. At 2-years-old, my little brother broke out with a terrible rare skin infection. We took him to GBMC er & several Dermatologist and no one knew what it was or how to treat it. Then we took him to Dr. Max and he diagnosed him and cleared it up. I can't recall the name of the infection but it was scary. Also, my little sister has severe eczema and he has helped her. He has also helped with my daughter's (7 mos.) eczema. Please try him and post the results. Best of luck to you and your daughter. if for some reason he cant fit you in by may 9th, please let me know b/c my daughter has an appointment that you can take.

I am sorry to hear about your daughters suffering from the skin problem. Like another respondant, I think that food allergies may have something to do with it. I know of a lotion that beat Eucerin in a double blind study and is very effective for eczema, it's made by the Wellness Company, Melaleuca. If you would like to try it e-mail me at - ____@____.com and I will get you a sample.
I still think that a dermatologist is a good idea.

Have you considered food allergies as a possible cause? If not, you might want to look into it. If your daughter is suffering from food allergies or sensitivities, then it might make her KD worse as well. (I don't know anything about KD, but I do know that food allergies/sensitivities weaken your immune system.)

Best of luck and good wishes to your daughter,
J.

I have a dermatologist that I think will be good for your daughter. Call his office and if you do not get anyone, just leave a message and someone will get back with you. His name is Dr. J. Fletcher Robinson,6323 Goergia Ave, N.W., Washington, DC 20011. Tel: ###-###-####. His appointments are scheduled at the beginning of the month. Because he has offices in several location, call and see if he can take her this week.

My son was just 2 years old and he was dignosed with eczema. I took him to Dr. Robinson and he's been good ever since (he's 3 going on 4 in June). My son fingers were raw and his face was a little messed up. Call today and good luck.

J..
