I was diagnosed with PCOS (poly cystic ovarian sysdrome) in December of 04. Since then I have been through on Endocronologist, and have yet to find help for this problem. My weight has stayed high ever since I was diagnosed, with no help from doctors. I am now at the stage where I am about to become diabetic, and need some relief. Any information is a help.

What can I do next?

I would highly recommend Weight Watchers. I started weight watchers and lost 45 pounds and my symptoms pretty much vanished. Feel free to contact me with questions! GOod luck.

I would suggest you find an endocrinologist who is familiar with metformin a medication for PCOS. Metformin increases your body's ability to utilize insulin since PCOS involves insulin resistance. Treatment of insulin resistance will then enable you to lose weight, as well.

PCOS is caused by copper overload and estrogen dominance. Two books are very helpful in figuring out how to handle it: "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause" by Dr. John Lee and "Why am I always so tired?" by Ann Louise Gittleman. They are great books and if you decide to purchase your own copy you won't regret it.

All the best!

Hi D.,

I know how you feel my husband and i of 10 have been trying to concieve when it took a miscarrage many specialest alot of blood work and poking and proding that i was unable to concieve because of pcos. My problem was i would go without a period for several months I would go to the dr. with high hopes but he would just give medicine to get it going again. and awhile latter it would do it again.I resently went without a period for 7 1/2 months (which was nice during summer)but i gave in after the husbands complant. I have been struggling with this problem for years and have a very hard time trying to lose weight just try to watch what you are eating and exercise lots. Go for walks while your son rides his bike, take him to a local pool and enjoy playing in the water just keep active. Due to not being able to have children we have adopted an afican american baby boy in 2005 and having a wonderful time and wouldnt change anything for the world.

Hi D.

I am a new memeber as of today wooo hoo. I was just diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I was put on a medication called glucophage 500 mg twice daily. This is a pre-diabetic medicine as I understand it. It helps your body regulate insulin and helps your body absorb the nurtrients it needs to be healthy. I was told a lot of women with PCOS are lacking in this area due to the PCOS and prediabetes. I also joined Weight Watchers which has helped. Good Luck!
