Any Geocaching Families Out There?

I just bought the GoemateJr at Target for my kids. We walked out the door and found a cache after a 20 minute walk and my kids were so excited. I did sign up for the geocaching.com site and I know my way around that. Are there any tips or trick your family has to finding caches? Have any of you hid them before? There are quite a few caches around our town and we plan on taking the bikes today to see what we can find.

My kids are 25, 11 and 6. We do both Geocaching and Letterboxing and it works for all ages they love it. We've done a lot locally and whenever we go anyplace we look up a few in the area in case we have time to fill. My kids especially like the letterboxing we've created a scrap book of all the stamps we've found and they love to go thru the book and recall the "finds" and the trips that went with them. It's just a fun inexpensive family activity. Old cemetarys are one of our favorites they are an easy walk for the little one and you can learn a lot of local history. If you are interested in more info about letterboxing atlasquest.com is a good site to check out. They will let you set priorities such as where, kid friendly, and biking. We've also taken part in tournaments and group events which are a lot of fun. Haven't hidden any yet but we have a few travel bugs we are looking to plant on our upcoming vacation.

Yes, we are! We used to enjoy geocaching on our vacations and sometimes locally, as well. Was a lot of fun when the kids were younger. We have our own practically across the street from us here in The Woodlands. I will ask my husband about it because he keeps up with it and can give me the coordinates. Will post his answer, later today.

Yes, we geocache. But we tend to do it more when we are away from home. Not sure why. It is a lot of fun. We have "planted" one before. That was fun too. I have also heard of letterboxing for kids. Supposed to be a similar concept but without the coordinates so younger kids can find them. I think they use a rubber stamp to show they found it. Haven't check it out yet.

Just did our first one on vacation this week. Had a blast -- interested to see what others say as we are looking forward to doing this again around home.
