My brothers girlfriend serves us on paper plates. They live in a million dollar home, her kids are grown, and I ate off of paper last night.
It's just weird.
I'm not sure where to start. I always have the same old-maid complaining about everything during our meals.
I am grateful for everything I have and the important people (husband and children) in my life. We have too many relatives we crazy issues (look at past posts).
I really liked most of the food. Thank you everyone for the turkey advice. I did weigh it, so i was able to figure out it was 15 pounds.

This year it was only me, hubs, our 2 kids and my mom. I normally cook everything in crock pots and my turkey in the roaster and it all turns out beyond great. Well, I decided to double all the recipes, even tho is was only 5 of us. I don't know if it was the meds I was on for my head cold or what...but the turkey was rubbery, I put 2 STICKS of butter too much in the stuffing and too much mayo in the mashed tatters, so everything was mushy. It still tasted good, but just the texture of everything was the same. lol Oh and I bought stuff to make pie but then on Wed decided I still wasn't feeling up to it so I bought some as well. I stuck the pies in the fridge on their side instead of the freezer so Thursday morning when I got up to cook, the juices in the pies had drained out and run out all over the shelf in the fridge. Besides that, it was good, I have had much worse. lol
A "tradition" in my family was "cranberry soup" - my mother was not a good cook, but her mother and grandmother were, so she always tried to imitate them even though their from-scratch dishes were beyond her. She would make the cranberries and refrigerate them right away, rather than let them cool completely first. So they never jelled and they dripped all over everything, and had to be eaten in soup bowls.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for but if you need a smile, that's my offering!
This might be one of those stories that is only funny if you were there at the time, but here goes anyhow. I host Thanksgiving for approx. 14 people every year so I get a big turkey--21 to 22 pounds. We always like to have leftovers. My dad always carves the turkey. I reminded him to save what was left after he carved so I could make homemade soup, like I do every year. I usually get just enough meat left on the bones to make homemade stock for my soup. My dad handed me what was left this year and it was one big bone, completely scraped clean, and a couple of small bones, also completely scraped clean. I said, "I'm supposed to make soup with this?" As I stared at the meager pile of clean, dry bones I thought about the children's story "Stone Soup" and I started laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. My SIL said, "bone soup."
ETA: I meant to include that the small pile of bones looked like something had died in the middle of the desert months ago.
I am very grateful I get to enjoy the company of some awesome family members who deemed THIS O. the "best Thanksgiving" of their lives.
No complaints here--just lots of laughs and memories and warmth! 😊
Julie G, that's just hysterically funny!!!
I can't tell you how long it took to wash my dishes. I made it a silly marathon! The crystal is still sitting out! Totally ridiculous of me, but, oh well!!!
S., I'm sorry you had a complainer!! :(
Ours was nice and quiet. We shared stories of my mom and father-in-law who died this year and laughed...and cried...but it was good.
Thanks...my story is from YEARS ago...
I was living in Germany. We lived in base housing, and our oven went nuts...on Wednesday - the day before Thanksgiving and maintenance wasn't able to come out until Friday...guess who was tasked with roasting the turkey for our Group? ME!!! My 25 lbs turkey was done in 45 minutes! Yes! 45!! I told you - it went nuts!!
So I get the turkey to my office and we go to carve it....in all of the commotion with the oven going bonkers - I forgot to take out the gizzards bag!! It was HILARIOUS!! I was soooo embarrassed at the time - but people were laughing about it...It was still a YUMMY turkey!!
Hope this helps you smile and laugh!!
