My 7 month old girl has really bad diaper rash. It kind of looks like little zits are appearing. I've rinshed the wipes out with water and I've tried Balmex, but it is not working. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
Welcome to Arizona!!!
Diaper Rash is so easy to heal. Have you ever heard of Arbonne? They make a great baby line called ABC (Arbonne Baby Care) and their diaper rash cream is wonderful.

It is pH correct, fragrance free and the most important it is Mineral Oil free. The baby Sun Screen is the best you can find.

I would be happy to send you a sample,

T.

My daughter had horrible diaper rash problems & the only thing that worked/works for us is Burt's Bees Diaper Creme. It's expensive but sooooo worth it! Plus, it's lavender scent is almost like aromatherapy.

Give her as much naked time as possible, and make sure her skin is free of any balms or creams when she's naked. When she's diapered, put Aquaphor on the affected areas. Good luck!

Hi A.,
On the advice of one doctor I used to let the baby go without a diaper for a little while to get the air on it. Used to work like a charm.
Wipes can be hard on baby's bottom - avoid them if you can.

I recently read somewhere that a bad diaper rash may be a yeast infection so all the ointments in the world will not help it.

ask your doctor if this may be the case here.
when my middle daughter had a diaper rash 20+ years ago hers was so bad I was scared that it was goingto be scarred for life. nothing I did helped this was before the now practice of using baby wipes I washed her everytime very good but it still didn't help at my its end and I am sure with tears in my eyes I asked the pharmacist to help me. he left my side and a few minutes later he came back with a cream that literally smelled of burnt wood and he told me it would work well --it did and when I asked him about it later he told me that it was an old remedy that is not in use anymore DARNIT!!!
but modern medical knowledge says that bad diaper rashes are yeasts infections which if you think about it makes sense

You might Try A&D ointment. We used it with our daughter and it worked wonders. It is in the baby isle just like diaper rash cream.

Vaseline also works well as a barrier. My baby gets diaper rash similar to what you are describing and vaseline works better than zinc oxide (which actually stings when we tried using it on the rash). We just change her often (asap after a poop), put vaseline on it, let her air out as well. The rash usually clears up in a few days. We put a thin layer of vaseline after every diaper change as a preventative measure. If you use disposables, we found that the mesh lining in Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers helps draw the liquid away from her skin, which also helps prevent diaper rash.

Call your doctor it might also be a yeast infection. Air her out. I would call the dr though if she has had it more then two or three days.

My son has bowel issues and we are constantly treating diaper reashes. There is a product at...sorry drawing a blank on the store name not walgreens but the other one...Sorry CVS maybe. Anyway, its called Triple Paste and it works wonders!!! Good luck, also if that doesnt help do call your ped because it could be a yeast infection.

On really bad diaper rash, like you are describing, I put the nipple cream, Lansinoh, on it. Lanolin is a great barrier and can help heal it! Let her run around naked for a while so she is good and dry, then put the Lanolin on it. If you don't have any Lansinoh, you can find it at the drug store. It is in a purple tube.

it could be a phase, an allergy, or just an irritation. my kids are teenagers so i can't really remember creams i used (except A & D ointment) With my first i used 100% cooton balls with warm water to clean the tushy, but my second i washed out the unscented babywipes and put them back in the container, the third i found the same brand of baby wipes that the hospital used and figured that was good enough. if she is really uncomfortable oatmeal baths (i think it is by aveeno) makes them feel better. Also, keep her naked for as long as you can.

A.,
Try zinc oxide ointment. It's over the counter at most pharmacies. Don't use any kind of wipes. Use just ivory soap and water and stick to good old Johnson and Johnson lotion and baby oil. You might also try changing the type of diapers you are using - your child may be allergic to them.
Good luck!

This probably is not your typically rash but a form of a yeast infection. They are very common and tend to look like a rash but don't react to diaper cream the way a rash would. Typically a doctor will prescribe nyastin (I may have this spelled wrong) cream. I am not sure if you can get it over the counter or not, but you can always call the local pharmacy and find out. However, I would still have your pediatrician take a look at it as well.

I hope this helps.
