Can you take the natural supplement bromelain for an anti inflammatory if you are taking a prescription for cholestrol called a statin?I heard that you were not suppose to take it if you were on a statin.I have plantar fasiticis in my foot and know that advil is tough on the kidneys, and don't want to take it.Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Yes, I can't tell you any contraindications, but I can tell you to wear a good shoe (make sure it has support - like Dansko's or Walkies or something similar - you can find at thrift store if you keep your eyes open) and stretch, stretch, stretch those feet out on the back of a stair, curb etc....as much as possible....

You really need to get advise from a professional, not suggestions here. I love this site, however, its just not the place for dependable health care advise. Talk to your local pharmacist and he/she will be able to answer your questions for free and it will be a dependable answer. They do have access to on line cross references on natural supplements at most pharmacies, at least I know they do at Walgreens, and I always find them to be very helpful myself.

Fish Oil supplements are a great anti-inflammatory, and the omega 3 & 6's in them are also good for lowering cholesterol. I would check with your doctor or pharmacist first, though, about any possible interactions.

Turmeric is suppose to have anti-inflammatory properties. I mix 1/4 tsp of turmeric with a healthy pinch of black pepper with some olive oil and vinegar and dip vegetables in it. (According to the book: Anticancer, you need to have the pepper and olive oil for the turmeric to work.)
It shouldn't have any interactions with medications unless your prescription prohibits eating Indian food while taking it. You could also check with your doctor about glucosamine, chondrotin and MSN which are helpful for joint pain and might help.

I also bought stiff inserts from Jay's Wide Shoes which helped quite a bit and last about 10 years. Good luck.

I would definitely ask your doctor or a pharmacist before taking anything new, even if it's over-the-counter. I am on a medication that is hard on the liver, and I was told not to take Tylenol, but that Aleve was ok. But with the medication you're taking, it could be different. Best to ask a professional first before doing anything that could damage your liver or kidneys!
