Another Question About the Temp agency...what to Wear for Interview?!

Ladies -
I posted a question earlier today about staffing companies, or temp agencies. Now I have another question.
I needed to send them a resume and then fill out an application online. While filling it out the app asks what shift you would like and I specified that I would like to work a 2nd shift. That way my husband can work in the mornings and I can work in the evenings and we don't have to put any of our 3 kids in daycare or after school care. I was a machinist at my last job and a print press operator. Both jobs had one or two women that worked there and the rest were men. So, I am assuming that since I am going in for a 2nd shift job that I will also be going in for some kind of machinist, labor, factory job. However, towards the end of the application it also asks you what you know, Quickbooks, forklift driver, yada yada...which I kind of know a few things that really have nothing to do with each other. My other job was HR, AP, AR, and benefits.
So, the question. Since I am going in for what I assume to be factory, machinist work....do I go in all gussied up (makeup, hair done, fancy office clothes) or do I go a bit more casual (jeans and a nice shirt)? See, since I am trying to get into male dominated work I don't want them to see me in nice clothes and think that I don't know how to get dirty or see me in casual clothes and think I don't respect the work.
What say you?
Laura

If you have a suit or pantsuit, that would be great. Otherwise, either nice slacks or skirt and a blouse. Try to keep on the conservative side. They might decide that the machinist spot isn't right for you but they have the perfect accounting clerk job, which would require better dress. You just never know.

Good luck!

Absolutely wear a suit and look your best. No matter what work you might be doing, you are interviewing first at the temp agency, not at the job site. You need to impress the agency if you want them to view you as a serious candidate who will best represent their company when they send you out on a job.
They will see your past work experience on your resume and know what you're capable of and willing to do. Showing up in jeans and a shirt will only show them that you don't take the interview seriously.
Good luck!

Dress professionally. Always!
You never know what job you can get/qualify for.
Also, they may not take you seriously for any job, even that of a machinist if you dress too casual like you don't care .

Put your best foot forward.

And good luck!!! :)

NEVER go to an interview in jeans. Ever.
A nice skirt and shoes is no more difficult as far as getting dressed and it makes all the difference in the world.
We just had someone show up for an interview in jeans and a T-shirt and her interview lasted 5 minutes. Had she been hired, she would have been wearing medical scrubs so no one expected her to wear a business suit and high heels for the interview, but showing up dressed the way she did got her sent right out the door.
Remember what I said in my last answer to you.....
Going through a staffing agency can be beneficial because if you aren't a good fit for one employer, you might be perfect for another one. They will be summing up your over all employability and if they send you to an actual employer, they will advise you how to dress.
For now, your interview is with the staffing agency. There is no guarantee they will send you directly for any interviews with the actual employer.
You need to concern yourself with dressing appropriately for the staffing agency and making a good impression on them first.

Just my opinion based on my personal experience with HR and staffing agencies.

Good luck!

Wear one one to two levels up from what you expect to work in. I would avoid skirts and full suits, but jeans will be too causual. Go with slacks and a blouse (not too feminine for michinist work) and clean neutral makeup. Keep your hairstyle equally clean and non-fussy. You only get to make your first impression once and you don't want them to believe that you are not serious, capible, or willing to do the job.

office casual or church clothes would be your best bet.

Never, ever wear jeans.

You always want to look your best when interviewing, so hair, makeup and clothing should all reflect your abilities and that you take this all seriously. When you do get an interview for machinist's work, ask the temp agency how you should dress for the interview.

I would call and ask. You could go semi-casual a pair of Docker's, a nice button down blouse, and maybe a blazer and nice shoes. It's still professional looking but not as formal as a suit.

I didn't read the other question about temp angencies but a word or warning:
only believe about 10% of what they tell you. I have gone through a few agencies and they only get paid if they provide workers for their clients. I have been lied to about the circumstances of the job and the actual job I would be doing.

If it's nice out, I wear slacks and a nice shirt, if it's cold, I go with a suit. Always dress up from what you want, it doesn't cost anything to look nice, but looking too casual can cost you the interview.

You can never over dress for an interview, but you can under dress. I say dress professional, they will look at how you present yourself. I don't think it matters what type of job you are applying for.

Good Luck!!
