B.C.
I'm right there with you DVMMOM! I hate when I'm trying to get the baby to sleep and Dora is like, "Say it louder! Everybody shout!" I'm thinking, "please don't! He's almost a gonner...."
What's the most annoying show your kids watch? My son is almost 3 and is obsessed with the cartoon Caillou. I have no idea why lol! The little boy is so whiny.

Aaargh! I hate Caillou. His whining is like fingernails on a chalkboard. That was the one show I refused to allow my kids to watch!
My youngest used to be obsessed with Boobah. It was similar to Telletubbies, but way worse. To me, the whole show looked like a really bad drug trip - but for some reason the little one was mesmerized.
I really, really don't like Caillou, but we've mostly avoided that one.
Others I find incredible annoying...Barney (not allowed in my house), Elmo (again, not allowed), LaLaLoopsy (why, oh WHY did I ever let her watch this show...)
My favorites...anything old and good (Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, Popeye, Garfield and Friends, Duck Tales, you get the idea). As far as new(er) shows go, I LOVE Backyardigans...I'll admit I own a soundtrack and have been known to listen to it in the car sans children.
Yo Gabba Gabba...refuse to let her watch it...just too weird. And Peppa Pig...she's a little brat. Max & Ruby is growing on me, but EVERY show has the same freaking plot. Ruby is annoyed with Max and tells him to go away so she can do X...meanwhile Max really wants to play with Y...in the end Max's Y helps Ruby accomplish X. All is done with lack of parental supervision.
Same with Dora...her Mom is occassionally on the show, but told her to take a basket to her grandma, knowing she'd have to go through the forest and cross the river??
I LOVE Bubble Guppies...but don't like when they get water spilled on their heads and then their hair seems wet...ummm...aren't they underwater?
Perhaps I watch too many cartoons...lol
I am sick to death of Dora and Diego, and how repetitive it is - and really any show where the characters talk directly to the kids and encourage them to shout, scream, jump around, etc.
"Shout with me! RIVER DOLPHIN!"
"Say it louder! RIVER DOLPHIN!"
"EVERYBODY SCREAM! RIVER DOLPHIN!"
"Now jump! Jump! Jump jump JUMP! Jump, jump, JUMP JUMP JUMP! Keep jumping! Now jump HIGHER!"
OMG, STOP!!!
ETA: DD is now 5. When she was 3, she did go through a phase of talking just like Dora, using the same phrases and such. If we were driving somewhere and came to an intersection, she would ask me, "Are we going on THIS path or THAT path?" And getting dressed or brushing teeth, she would tell me, "I'm going to need YOUR help!". Thank goodness it didn't last!
Sponge Bob's voice can really get on my nerves.
I can't stand Elmo. The baby talking seems very mismatched to the amount of autonomy he has; the fact that he has 'email' is inane at best.
We just flat-out avoid Arthur. The kids on that show are very mean to each other-- of course it gets worked out in the end, but the there's a lot more viewing time of the meanness and conflict than there is compared to the relatively short kindness/conflict resolution.
Maybe I'm a total B of a mom, but I don't let my son watch whatever he wants. And if I find it whiny or annoying, it's probably behavior I don't want my son to emulate, so we just don't watch those shows, period. He loves SuperY and Dinosaur Train and the Reading Rainbow dvds; we're fine with those.
I thought I was the only person in the world who didn't like Elmo.
It was Caillou for us! My guy started to take on his whining ways so we stopped watching it about a year ago when he was almost 3 as well. That voice drives me up a wall, but having to live with it, uh-huh :-/
BTW, the child who does Caillou's voice is a girl :)
Sid the Science Kid. O.m.g. it absolutely sets my teeth on edge. Other close annoying seconds - Caillou (so whiney and the art is ugly with the use of like three colors), Thomas the Train, and Seasame Street (this one probably makes me a bad mother and worse yet a bad American but the whole show is vaguely annoying with some real teeth grinders - Murray (sp) on the street (really?! I didn't know we needed ghetto Muppets with falling annoying sidekick lambs), Abby (her voice alone is enough...) And Elmo (too much to even start)... In general I find kids' shows difficult to watch. I am glad nothing really holds his attention so we don't watch much except PBS. Saturday mornings as background noise. I do enjoy Dinosaur Train and Word World, though.
In addition to all the others have mentioned--Wonder Pet's---oh don't even get me going on their song. Waking at 2 am with that awful song in your head--is a nightmare in itself!
Haven't read any responses yet but for me - Yo Gabba Gabba! Come on, what is it really about?
Surprisingly Caillou is the ONE "newer" kids show that I don't despise. All of the other ones though I HATE. I still like the older ones though, the ones I watched when I was a kid :) Got my kiddo addicted to Rugrats and Disney movies :P
Haha! Everyone I know hates Caillou, so my kids have never seen it.
Dora really bugged me when my son first started watching it. She always sounds like she's yelling. But I've kind of grown used to her. Although it does irritate me that they always say they have to hurry up and get somewhere but then they take forever. There is no way a real baby jaguar would have been able to avoid being swept over that waterfall for half an hour.
My son used to love Thomas the Tank Engine, and I've never seen the appeal. There are too many bells and whistles, literally - I can hear the beeping and tooting through earplugs. Yes, I speak from personal experience. And all the engines are always so mean to each other.
My MUM's fav kids show was Calliou. Thankfully my son told her "Nana!!! He's breaking the rules!!! No whining, Nana. He won't stop whining but still get what he wants. That's a BAD show Nana. Make him stop!"
Arthur was banned in our house (the kids are SO mean to each other, all. the. time).
Older? Invade Zim. Gack. Nope!
Older? The preteen/teen Shallow McDraaaaaaama!!! (iCarly, etc.)
I was never bothered by Caillou.
Barney? - made me want to gag.
I never cared for Dora and Diego either.
We liked George Shrinks, Sagwa, and Cyber Chase.
I got Scooby Doo on DVD and we watched it all the time - I have to admit, I'm a fan of the music they played for the chase scenes.
I miss bubblegum rock!
Oh, we stopped my son from watching Cailou.
I can not think of any current shows that he watches that annoy me too much.
There are shows he knows he can not watch such as Spongebob or just about anything on Cartoon Network
oh, where do i start? thank god my kids don't watch cartoons anymore, but i am still scarred.
oobi (and his granpu and ooma)
dora (and her backpack and the little money)
diego
sesame anything
and the purple thing, barney.
Barney and Teletubbies have always been outlawed. My oldest loved Dora, and we happily watched it with her. But now with the third child, Dora gets on my nerves. Did she get more annoying, or did I just get older and crankier? Yo Gabba Gabba makes me crazy. My son watches more Disney Jr than Nick Jr (especially since they change to women's programming after 9). Special Agent Oso annoys me for some reason, but it is not maddening. I can only take a little bit of the Wonder Pets, too.
Doodlebops creep me out - and anything anime just BOTHERS me, i can't explain why. hate it. i'm also not a fan of spongebob. OH Tracy M Oobie is creepy too!!! eww!
and nope, we don't watch those lol. there are a million kids shows that don't grate on my nerves...i have zero issues with veto power!. ;)
i am glad someone mentioned Charlie and Lola - LOOOOVE! and SO cute seeing my 3 year old asking to watch, "I will not evah, NEVAH, eat a TOMAHTO!" lol...adorable. wish we still had that channel...but we downgraded, and he lost interest, so they're not even on the dvr anymore... :(
I hated the UpSide Down Show - something about a couple of supposedly grown men acting that dumb grated on my nerves. I also hated Oobie...really who the hell wants to watch a show that centers on hands that are painted to look like faces...creepy.
I HATED Caillou and Barney!
Ugh, I always HATED that whiny Caillou. Luckily my son didn't stay there long. He did go through the Max and Ruby phase as well. I mean c'mon, where's there Mother. Grandma lives down the street. Ruby is always ignoring Max and not listening. Oh I could go on about that annoying show. Sponge Bob has been banned as well. My favorites though has got to be the Penguins of Madagascar (wish that would come back on) and in the sprout realm, Kipper. Don't know why, I just LOVE that theme song. So bluesy. Haha, now I'll have that theme song in my head all day.
I agree! Caillou is sooooooo whiiiiiiiiney. And the fact that he has no hair was always a little weird to me. And Spongebob is absolutely forbidden at our house. I watched it when I was younger, but it's not something I want my young kids watching.
We like the Goodnight Show too. Love Nina. Star...not so much. On Sprout, we used to really like Dirt Girl. It was kinda freaky looking when I first watched it, but it grew on us. :)
We don't watch much TV at all, but I once watched a bit of 'Yo Gabba Gabba'. Oh my gosh...that has to be one of the worst shows ever!
Wonder Pets - makes me want to scratch my eyes out. Why do they have to sing everything they say? It's like a really uncreatvie, badly written opera with annoying voices.
I can't stand Spongebob. The only time my daughter watches it is Saturday or Sunday mornings when my husband gets up with her.
I did let her get a Spongebob comic one week at the comic book store. I tried to talk her out of it, but she and a teenage girl she'd just met (she was 5 at the time) managed to make the argument for it. And I was just so excited to see how the girls were outnumbering the boys at the comic book store on new comic book night, that I allowed what I might have talked her out of. :)
Yo Gabba Gabba and Barney. HATE HATE HATE those two shows.
And if you don't want him watching it don't let him watch it , it's very easy to turn off the TV.
Spongebob is one of those shows that are banned from our house never really considered it OK for kids.,
Any of the Dora type shows. I figured it out finally - kids that age are emphatic. DD will talk the same way and I don't think it's just because she saw Dora. I think it's how she is. But I don't have to like it. I steer her toward Charlie and Lola and Imagination Movers whenever possible. I don't like Bubble Guppies. I find them irritating. DD also does not watch Spongebob.
Fairly Odd Parents - while it CAN be funny, it also happens to be very annoying and LOUD
Spongebob - I have managed to keep it off for years, but recently watched a few with my son to see how it went. Nope. It's off again--annoying, loud, crude.
Caillou, yes, it is annoying but I appreciate Caillou's innocence, and my 6 yr old is still delighted by Caillou. I can tolerate the whining of Caillou because it is a solid show about family, friends and community. Whining isn't a big problem in my house, because my kids know it is fruitless.
Rugrats - My memories from my own childhood kinda failed me, so I let my kids watch a few episodes without my supervision-bad move. There is a TON more potty humor and disrespect than I remembered, so that's off now too.
I am SO GLAD that my kids have no interest in Barney, Yo Gabba Gabba, and only my oldest ever liked Wonder Pets. Glad that one's gone--very annoying show.
My favorite shows for them are Phineas & Ferb for my oldest (6), Curious George, Charlie & Lola, Max & Ruby for all of them and Team Umizoomi & Little Einsteins (for my younger kids)
ETA: My library has a huge collection of Charlie & Lola DVDs, so the kids watch them in the car (our only working DVD player).
when the time comes i will absolutley refuse to let my daughter watch dora the explorer, barney, or teletubbies.. iv never watched caillou but ive seen commercials for it and it looks like something that would irritate me
My dd went through a calliou phase too, I didnt bother me since its not a super loud show so I could just tune it out. The one I cant stand is Dora, she has a bossy voice and the map is like nails on a chalkboard. We watch a lot of yo gabba gabba and Go Diego Go. Also a lot of Disney movies, my personal favorite is Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. My dd is also into the Diary of a Wimpy kid movies, which are pretty funny.
I refuse to allow my daughter to watch SpongeBob, and she knows she's not allowed to watch it. A lot of friends and family point out to me that there's nothing exactly "wrong" with SpongeBob for kids. The truth is that I just plain don't like it...so as unfair as it may be, that's the real reason she can't watch him.
On Disney, I don't like that Aquanauts show, which fortunately we don't see often because it comes on way earlier than our tv does. A.N.T. Farm annoys me because the characters are just so ridiculously over-the-top stupid and/or weird. I also dislike when they show "My Babysitter is a Vampire," as it seems inappopriate for kids and I have no idea how that is supposed to fit into Disney.
And he doesn't have hair! LOL. I've never seen the show but a few friends were complaining about this show being annoying too. Mine are standard, Barney, Teletubbies.....
I won't let my kids watch Caillou because I find it SO obnoxious. My husband and I also hate Ni Hao Kai Lan. The characters are annoying, the messages are bad, and the spoken Chinese is terrible. Those are the only ones I really dislike.
My favorite (and fortunately, my kids love it to) is Backyardigans. I also like Doc McStuffins. There are a few others that are fine, but those are my favorites.
